Thanks from a former owner/student with a 1946 7AC, the C85 was more powerful than the 1969 VW Squareback (65 horsepower, air-cooled). Taking a winter month off out of Alaska to Reno-Stead to learn with a Super Decathlon was the best PPL training for a "new guy". Spending the day at the airport, with other opportunities. (We need to warm up this Cessna 177 before it goes into the shop to fix the flaps. Yeah, we don't need flaps with Aeroncas, so I logged three no-flap landings before we pushed it into the shop.) After that first break to Nevada, I splurged and replaced an old passive headset with a new Sennheiser HME-100MG (designed by Michael Goulian). My uncle on Mom's side learned to fly in the 1950s with a Champ, and bought one as they were being sold off by other operations in the Twin Cities. We traded experiences by mail, and before his passing, mailed a copy of the Aeronca Aviators Club magazine so he and his daughter had a brightened day while she was his caregiver. 8.50-6 bush wheels, compare to the 1955 flight logs of Elemendorf AFB pilots flying the Champ in the Copper River. Now it's Super Cubs with monster tires and more horses... 😄
