Sorry for the horrible production of this motivational video. I threw it together in 1 hour! LOL. I do not own rights to the song, speech, or any video footage. The speech is by Jim Rohn The song is "The world needs change" by Clams Casino These are a few videos that inspire me. I found them all on TH-cam and just threw them together in an editor. It's a bit of "dark" motivation if you will, be...

Sorry for the radio interference! It sounds like my handheld radio was picking up transmissions from the tachometer wire (Listen at takeoff). It was a cold day and I was freezing up there so I didn't go too far or stay up too long. I plan on getting a windshield put on it for colder flying and also so wind doesn't drown out my mic. Enjoy!

Pretty cool ! Why does your engine have that whaa, whaa, whaa, whaa, sound to it ?
It's a 2 stroke and the engine was probably 20 years old or so. It was not tuned and would sometimes die. It also might have something to do with the pump from the engine. I eventually replaced the hoses after this video and it ran much better.
How's she holding up? I like having a piece wrapped around your arse & a cone of some kind for the feet. To me having your legs sticking out as you land or going thru trees/bushes really would make the nightmare even worse so I digg this aircraft. Is this one Part 103 or why not? I have the rules/regs but I can't tell with every video I see. Sometimes there's an engine & large fuel tank or a 2nd seat ; just lots of infractions that take it away from being a Pt 103 aircraft. But I do like this one. What type of material is the wings made of? The material its wrapped with & how long does it last, if you know? I hope this finds you well. peace
Nice! Where is this?
Pahrump Dry Lake
That looked more like a test drive than a test flight 😂
Excellent flying .4/22/2023yr
Congrats buddy, that was great, that lake bed is deceiving to tell how far off the ground you where but you did great. Please share more.
👍
omg dont give me ideas i'd kill myself in one of these. how does it handle a 20kt gust of wind?
You don’t fly one of these in 20 knots unless your crazy
Chat about summer flying there?
I live in Pahrump. Where the hell is that lake bed? I never knew we had one . Lol
Way too close to the ground. Good job of control for now... bro you need more altitude! Don’t be bold, be safe! Altitude is your best friend!
OOOhhh, i want this Plane in MSFS2020!
Low Alt Desert Flying ... Absolutely Love It ! BRAVO Dude - Best Of Luck With Your Cool Kolb
We need a walk around the kolb!! Just watched your dead stick at 1000 AGL
I was very nervous as to how close to the ground you were staying.
Yes just watching this adds more fuel to my fire I definitely desire to fly and I’ve been eyeballing one of these for the last two maybe three years appreciate the video and thank you
Learning the basics and can't wait to get into one ! Have many experienced pilots to help me along Can't wait!Enjoy!
Firefly is my Dream airplane!
OMG, i kept repeating quit staying close to the ground, stop staying close to the ground. If something goes wrong you want altitude = time to react. The 1st mistake of a rookie pilot... thinking that being close to the ground keeps you safe.
You don't understand Ultralight flying. Even at 1,000' you are just 2 minutes from the ground so one may as well get accustomed to low level flying while always leaving yourself an out and planning well ahead for an engine failure.
@@shannonwhitaker9630 I understand perfectly ultralight flying - you simply didn't understand my comment. The people that I was referring to want to stay within 250 feet of the ground and often much lower which gives them zero time to react to an emergency. At even 1000 or 2000 feet of the ground you have a few seconds to respond, and you should have a known and practiced response to common emergency situations... at that altitude you have time to bail out and for your parachute to actually open before you hit the ground. Experienced fliers understand that flying 100 feet off the ground puts them at an increased risk (rather than safer), and they make that personal choice by compensating for it as best they can.
I totally agree that new guys will often hug the ground and fly over bad areas with no outs. In my case the rules are a bit different as I fly a twin Lazair. If I have any altitude at all I can fly to a safe landing in the far off distance. Been there done it.
@@shannonwhitaker9630 Agreed. Twins are nice to have in an emergency. For the low and slow crowd a nice glide angle or a 'chute is almost as nice.
I'd love to show you the other side of UL flying. Look up Lazair VTOL here on YT.
Sick video my guy, gave you like for the cool content! We just posted a video. Could you check it out for us and let us know what you think? Thanks!
Cool video bro, gave you like for the crazy content! We just posted a video. Could you check it out for us and let us know what you think? Much love!
Crazy content, keep up the hard work! If you do not mind, could you check out our recent video and comment what you think about it, much love!
Amazing video man, keep up the great grind! We just posted a video, and if you don't mind, could you check it out and let us know what you think? (:

You didn’t feel ready when your instructor gave you the green light to solo but years later you leave the ground in this ultra light aircraft. I’m encourage to go and buy an ultra light and just go and fly it.😀
Between you and me (hopefully the FAA doesn't read this) I don't feel like any formal training is really necessary to fly. Get spun up on some flight simulator, do several hundred landings, know a little about weather first (the cooler the weather, the better air density) and fly without any winds at all especially your first times. I honestly believe a person can.... well they have!!! you can search it on youtube and find people that self taught!
Get 10hrs up to point of Solo in Cessna 150-152. Learn ground handing to a T until you are completely in control at all times. Pick a Zero wind day and go for it.
@@shannonwhitaker9630 I've never seen a student solo a Cessna below 15hrs
@@SgfGustafsson I solo's a 150 in my 10th hr and I'm working towards my 2,000th hr of Ultralight flying. So....
There is absolutely nothing about Ultralight flying that anyone has to explain to me. I was first exposed to Ultralights in 1980 as a kid and have been involved with them ever sense. I've seen it all trust me . I currently fly my Lazair and I'm pushing towards of 2,000 hrs and hopefully far beyond.
What's it like having a hangar out there? We were thinking of purchasing some property. We are just west of there.
I have had nothing but positive experiences so far! The Calvada Meadows community is very accommodating. I live in Vegas and was originally trying to fly at Boulder City municipal but there was just so much red tape and traffic there and it seemed overwhelming for a new ultralight flyer. It was also by chance I found Calvada, because one day it was windy in Vegas area so I looked at my wind app and it showed no wind here so I drove out there with the plane on the trailer and ran into a gentleman that lives here at the airport and he was so welcoming so it caused me to come back and now I just have my plane here. I have gotten to know several people in this community and they are extremely helpful. It's quite here, very little traffic, most days i fly I'm usually the only one out here it feels.
@@P1X3L4T3D-FPV Very Cool! We are in Vegas as well and in the process of doing a ground up restoration on a Cessna 150, I was looking for a place thats a little more laid back than here in town to do some flying. We have been out there a few times and like it. Maybe we will cross paths soon!
@@ResurrectingFlight nice, that's what I trained in was a 150. Very fun planes
That looks fun. I might have to get one one of these days.
That was awesome! Maybe try to go a little higher next time :)
I remember my first solo with my Kolb Firefly. Nice job. Same feeling. That looks like the perfect place to fly.
Love the mount/perspective.
Great Videos! I have a Kolb Firestar ll. Maybe we can fly together someday. I'm in Lucerne Valley, Ca. You can contact me at (my name) @gmail. I have a pilots certificate, but still crow hopping so far.
Thought about wind screen?
Yeah I just installed a windscreen on it last week. I put one that covered the whole front side of the cabin area but it ended up pushing the nose of the plane down, making it hard to even takeoff. I modified it to just go about halfway up, but enough keep the wind from hitting most of my body. It solved the problem of adding too much downward force like a full windshield.. it was a good lesson in aerodynamics!!! LOL It also makes it a bit faster, (maybe better on gas, but also means longer landings.
Awesome man!!! Lovin the idea of a small plane to learn to fly.
Thanks Dustin, you should definitely look into getting an utlralight. It's a ton of fun to fly! Don't need a license (so no annual medical, no check rides), don't need to register plane. Caveats to it are, they are very light so wind pushes them around very easily and it's terrifying in winds greater than 5 knots! You can't fly at night or cross country, and you can't fly passengers around :( I hope to get a light sport pilots license in the future and get a 2 seater aircraft. But if you are just looking to get in the air, it's a perfect idea! If you can fly these small things, you can fly anything! I think bigger aircraft are easier to handle and wind doesn't effect them as much, so after you get training flying these you are an excellent pilot!
Beautiful landing! And what a perfect day, too! I don't think you hit a bit of turbulence. I'm subscribing because the more I watch you fly, the quicker I'll purchase a plane. I sold my dad's Twinstar after he passed away, I kinda regret it now, however at the time it was for the best. A word of caution. On one occasion that I was out at the dry lake, a Park Ranger decided to show up right after I'd taken off. Naturally I landed right away. He told me something about the CA and Nevada state line and what ever I was doing or where I was doing it was against the law. I can't remember the exact details of my crime I had unknowingly committed, but apparently I had done something wrong. He pointed from north to south saying there's a boundary line that separates the two states. I didn't see any posts, markers, nothing. I shook my head acknowledging what he had to say and told him I'd pack it up for the day. It was time anyways as my kids were getting bored. He then asked me for my ID and ran my name in the system looking to see if I had any warrants. That didn't settle well with me at all, but I suppose that's part of his job. I didn't have any warrants nor do I plan on having any either. Fortunately he didn't give me a ticket for flying in the wrong State, the wrong airspace, the wrong direction or whatever, for that I am grateful. I plan on not seeing that Park Ranger again. I have 5 acres on the west side of town. My dad took off and landed here for quite a few years. I can take off, it's being able to land on the correct side of the fence is where I need to brush up my skills. Just thought I'd make you aware of that encounter even though I can't remember what the fuss was about. That doesn't make me much help, does it? ;) I enjoyed the video, the flying bug has hit me once again. I've been leaning towards getting another Twinstar, but the Firefly is much more practical for me. I'd forgotten all about the many different varieties of Kolbs. My boss left yesterday headed to Kansas. He's buying a Rans S12 and trailering it back here to Pahrump. He's already got an ultralight over at the airport in a hangar. I don't know what he plans on doing with two planes. I keep telling him he should pass one along to someone less fortunate...like me. LOL. I do all the work yet he gets all the money. I'm doing something wrong! I look forward to seeing more videos. I still have #2 & #3 to watch, but that'll be later. I gotta get to work! ~Mike~
Nice dude. Hoping I get to pick one of those up someday soon. I'd be curious to hear the history of that unit and you're flight training.
Congratulations! What are the specs of your ultralight? You’ve got a nice big playground to learn. Great job.
