Where did you get those big fat skid shoes? Mine did not come with any.
@@bradmadison6397 Boss does not include skid shoes....I believe these are off of Amazon
@@BensonAceHardwareBensonPOWER thanks for the reply. Two questions: 1. Do you know which ones you ordered? And 2. Do you think they help? I am plowing a large gravel parking lot. I am also fairly inexperienced with plowing. I thought the skid shoes might help as I am inexperienced with plowing. Thanks!
@bradmadison6397 I'm not sure on the ones but if you search "plow skid shoes" and make sure they list BOSS in the fitment you should be good. Or you can order OEM but I'm guessing they will be more expensive. You will need 3 total. I personally like them and I do think they would be beneficial especially on a gravel driveway.
what is the square black box plug in for on a cub cadet 2 x 30 inch efi snow blower
@@johnstratton5637 for charging the EFI battery
That's a snow thrower not a snowblower. Meaning it's a single stage. Buy a true blower or a two stage
I guess in sense you are correct but most use those words synonymously....in a 2 stage you have an auger feeding an impeller that is also "throwing" the snow. There are pros and cons to both designs. The Rammy is extremely simple in design allowing to be mounted and lifted like a plow, rather than the need to be mounted on a clunky subframe. Definitely need to use them a little different than a 2 stage but they are more than capable at removing snow with an impressive build quality
That set up has the right amount of spinning mass at the right speed. I need one with the bush hog conversion.
Impressive!
I just bought this Cub Cadet model from Home Depot last week for 46% off for around $1150! I am looking forward to trying it out for the first time. I figure bigger is better and a time saver.

Don't take my word for it, but I believe if you buy this mower with three battery packs (at 7.5kwh), you qualify for a 30% federal tax credit under the inflation reduction act. So that's like $3600-ish off your total price. It actually makes the most sense to just buy it with 3 battery packs given this perk.
I'm not aware of that program, but if so, you are correct, that would be a great deal!
@@BensonAceHardwareBensonPOWER THE IRA IS PUMPING BILLIONS OF DOLLARS INTO THE USA. RECENTLY IN NC TOYOTA FINISHED INVESTING IN A $14BILLION BATTERY PLANT. Most of the funding came from the IRA (Biden Inflation Reduction Act), some from the state and some from local. It will add 5,000 jobs in NC. Programs like this started a couple of years ago all across the USA. It's a crying shame citizens are clueless about how much the IRA is doing to rebuild bridges, airports, roads, industries like this battery plant. TOYOTA came because of the cost savings provided by the IRA. Other major manufacturers are also on board. It makes good business sense. I didn't know about it until recently. Now I'm really impressed. It takes time, years for these programs to be designed, interested manufacturers signed up, state and local governments to approve locations, constructions timing, utilities to be planned like water, sewer, streets in support of the new facilities. Folks just seem to be clueless about the process and how the federal gov. works. It's a sad state of affairs. There is a big difference between a blowhard that has a manufacturing week every week for four years and nothing happens and someone that knows how to make it work, write the IRA bill, get it passed, and project manage the implementation. Bi-partisan too boot. People need to stop listening to clever bullshit putdown name calling statements and do some reading. They might realize things are actually a lot better now then they were four years ago!
thought you said it was AWD ??
The less-than-optimal weight distribution was the issue here and there is definitely a "limit" to the capabilities when hauling a load:)

Do you have the single post or two post subframe?
@@BensonAceHardwareBensonPOWER single post
@@LawrenceWatters this one is set-up with the 2 post frame. What you are experiencing is typical of the 1 post frame. I only sell the 2 post for that reason, however, it does required cutting sometimes if it sticks out too far from the machine. I prefer the rotational stability of the 2 post frame. On your single post frame, do you have a bunch of washers stacked on one side of the mount where it attaches to your machine? If not, it likely came with washers and they were discarded unknowingly, but they were there intentionally to help the machine sit more level when raised.

This is a great video Ben of how to use to get the most out of your 2X2.
So how are you liking the machine 9 months in? Has it had any issues? Any annoyances? Any need to order parts or interact with DR Power customer service or parts, yet?
I have 11 hours on the machine and no issues thus far. "Winterizing" was a breeze:) A couple of annoyances: The charging interface is a little clunky. Naturally, you would think you could just plug it in and it would charge, but there are some quirks like the machine needing to be powered on for it to charge. Or if you are charging outside of the machine, you need to unplug the charger each time to get it to reset and start a new charge cycle. Not a big deal but annoying. Also, a minor annoyance, if you happen to get off the seat with the blades on, you need to power cycle the machine to reset. I'm a dealer and asked about parts/service and there isn't much. For service/troubleshooting, there is a Smartec dealer app that you can run diagnostics with and that's about it as they are pretty simple. I haven't had to order parts yet, but I am guessing when I do it will be a non-issue, and feel even more comfortable in that aspect with the Mean Green influence/backing. Overall I still feel it is an extremely solid mower, however, until they can get the pricepoint closer to gas without sacrificing quality, I believe it will still remain a niche market.
@@BensonAceHardwareBensonPOWER thanks so much for taking the time to respond. Agreed the price is still high. I'm unsure if I qualify for the IRA tax credit as I don't run a business and the mower only has above 7kwh capacity with all three batteries packs. Sure would help if I knew this mower and myself as a married filing jointly qualified. Again, thanks for the time. You're one of only two real reviewers I can find on this machine.
This looks like the same software as the Mean Green machines use, minus a few extras.
Yes it is. Mean Green and DR are owned by Generac. I would say definitely a positive for those considering the DR Mower as they are utilizing a proven platform.
Thanks for your helpful video's. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the DR ZT5e @ it's current sale price $8000 with 1 battery (directly from DR Power). Also as a bonus, if you have any experience with the the Ryobi 80v 54" Sale price of $5000 (currently on home depot) and if you have any thoughts on it.
I haven't driven or seen the Ryobi mower in person, but here is my opinion from the outside looking in. The Ryobi unit would intrigue me if I was already invested in the Ryobi tool platform, however, with that being said there are quite a few poor reviews on the HD website that would have me proceeding with caution. I would personally be nervous about the joystick control unless I was able to test it out and feel comfortable with the operation. I'm not sure I care for their "cross-cut" blade system. I would do some research and make sure you feel good about the Ryobi brand and their customer service if you do have issues. If they have a service center nearby, and their reputation is solid, then I would feel a little more at ease. What would push me a little towards the DR is their use of the proven HydroGear Smartec system vs something proprietary from Ryobi. The build on the DR is solid and feels like a well-built gas mower. I am not sure if they have resolved but the DR charging interface is a little "glitchy" but tolerable once you figure out the little quirks. I like that the DR is derived from the commercially proven Mean Green Mower platform and is owned by the same company. Unfortunately in the Electric Mower market, time will tell. I currently have 10 hours on my demo unit. I have not had any issues and I enjoy mowing with it. Winterizing it this last winter was a breeze:)
@@BensonAceHardwareBensonPOWER Ryobi 80V owner here. You had me at made by Mean Machine. So how did I get here? Looking for a legitimate long range mower. While I have not had the issues others have had with the mower (yet), I would like a way to cut more yard. I can only get 1 acre out of mine. In fairness, I do not cut my yard every week. So I am cutting grass that is about 6-8 inches here in Florida. You are right about the joystick, as late 40 sumtin, I hate it! However, my 16-year old son doesn't seem to have an issue with it, therefore I pay him to cut it. One great thing about the blade system is that it cuts grass better than both of my giant gas powered ZT mowers. There is just something I love about the cut, just can't put my finger on it. This DR is just a beauty though and I am really considering selling my Ryobi in the start of next season after more research on this one. Thanks for the vid!
Absolutely....thanks for watching. You can cut a comfortable acre one battey with the ablity to expand to up to 3 batteries. I think I am up to 25hrs on this machine without issue. The mean green influance and the HydroGear Smartec System are huge positives for me on this machine.
@@BensonAceHardwareBensonPOWER Yes I forget to mention the Hydrogear Smartec Systems, I have known about them for 3 years yet didn't know what they were in until today. I was trying to find out how to get them for a diy retrofit about 2 years ago, lol. So have ran it against tall grass yet? I would love to run it on my 6 acre plot of land and replace my gas. Because I only go out to cut that super bahia grass once every two months.
@@tb129tlh I have mowed some pretty thick stuff but I haven't tried to over do it either.....the nice thing with the electric, or at least with the Smartec system, the worst that will happen if you overload is throw a code and the machine will stop so you can learn your limitations without wrecking anything
I just ordered two ZT5E 60" mowers for my baseball field. I'm extremely excited to get them as there didn't seem to be anything else that matched it when looking at price and build quality. I was wanting a quality prosumer type machine and everything else was either a cheaper built residential mower with lots of plastic or a $25k or more daily use commercial mower. One question though, what app did you use for your mowing tracker?
I think you are in the right place. Theses are made by Mean Green and the HydroGear system is solid/proven. The app is called MowerPlus by John Deere
Is there a video on the steering wheel and shifter I can't seem to find it
I do not have a video, but if you search "boot" on the owner's group Facebook page, it should bring up a post outlining all the details
@@BensonAceHardwareBensonPOWER thank you I am very new to utvs I just bought my first one on Friday
Congrats.....you don't know what you don't know, you are ahead of the game by attempting to educate yourself:) Enjoy!
Have you measured the acreage per charge and how it matches their claims? I’m looking at this DR but am curious about how much I can get out of 2 or 3 batteries.
Take a look here: th-cam.com/video/vsWmz6ChXQ4/w-d-xo.html Although there are obviouly a number of variables for consideration, I do believe their claims are somewhat realistic. Safe "generalization" is probably an acre per battery.
That really helps. What’s interesting is that acreage matches claims - it seems like the manufacturers don’t take into account the required overlap that cuts into your acres mowed.
@@jphe6774 you are 100% correct. I operate with the blades on full speed so playing with that depending on the mowing conditions/needs will improve range as well
What is the belt size ? I am thinking about replacing it with a gates redline belt.
Unfortunately I'm not sure on the size, OEM doesn't specify
any oem that works?
It sounds like it’s powered by a jet turbine engine. 20:25
Yes the blades still do make quite a bit of noise, you are really just saving on the engine noise
Hello, Was this setup with Y or Hammer blades? I'd guess it was Y but not sure if using different cutters would have made a difference. You're definitely slowed down not due to not having enough power, it was the terrain that's unpredictable as you never know what's lying underneath that growth.
This is with the standard Y blades and yes, I ate dirt a few times. What I was mowing and going through was very uncertain. In a known field or trail maintenance situation, you would be able to keep up a fairly steady pace without issue. Desired "quality of cut" being your limiting factor for travel speed.
@@BensonAceHardwareBensonPOWER Well, if it did that well with the Y blades, I can only imagine what it would be capable of doing with the Hammers. I'm considering getting one myself and your video definitely helps cement that decision. You're absolutely right about that, mowing a familiar terrain vs going into untamed, nomansland is a whole different ball game but most people don't realize that. I'm in Canada and what I see available is this flail mower 120 with 9hp engine not the 14hp so not sure if it would be hammer-blade compatible as that setup is a bit more power hungry. Glad to have stumbled across your channel and thanks for bringing real life footage or this mower :)
Perhaps a typo? I thought they only had one engine configuration on the flail mower... definitely a solid machine for the right application.... thanks for watching

How do you clean under the deck on this? Is it okay to spray with a hose?
You can hose it off and it is probably sealed better than most of the bearings used on traditional decks. When using a pressure washer be careful of joints and seams as usual. Nice thing to is there aren't any pulleys and covers to clean out. Pretty easy to blow off quick
Ya to bad you cant use ebikes on state land or in polk co county lands. Need to check with county forester and call the state DNR. can only use on private property so why not use the 4 wheeler or sidexside or truck for that matter !!
Yeah that's true. At least the bike is a little more incognito for the rule breakers out there...lol. there are also many places the bike can go that a truck or ATV can't due to size. The stealthy quiet all electric is a plus to
@BensonAceHardwareBensonPOWER they really need to change the laws I'm over 50 now my brother over 60. It's harder every year getting our deer out of the woods. The county forester said 4 wheelers sidexsides motorcycles all going electric and where do they draw the line for use in woods. That's easy I say it must have peddles 750 watt max motor and that's it. Easy done deal , last fall I ran into guys back where I've hunted for the last 25 years never seen anyone in the past. cuz know one was willing to drag there deer out from that distance. So I bought a bike myself now to get the deer out ill take the chance I guess. Went with a Aventon Aventure.2 and love it.
I agree, there is definitely a gray area that doesn't need to be there
Thanks for the review! After scouring the market, I like the ZT5e, but there are two things that make me hesitant to purchase. First, I need to be absolutely certain that I could mow about 1.65 acres (mostly flat with a fair amount of flower beds) in a single charge and, second, the availability of replacement parts and service for at least a decade post the initial sale. I'm not sure of DR Power's track record regarding parts availability and I also question my local True Value hardware store's ability to service an electric ZTR. I've had my current Ferris ZTR for about 17 years and never had a problem obtaining parts or service.
I think if you need to be "absolutely certain", one battery would be cutting it close. In my testing and usage this last season, I was probably close to that but it was running on empty and there are a lot of variables that affect run time. Some potentially in your favor, some against. In my usage, I have always kept the blades on the highest speed to make sure I get the best cut, so running at the lower speed will help your range. Also, it depends on the thickness of the grass and how often you are mowing. If you are mowing a hay field every 2 weeks, a single battery is probably not enough. A few notes on parts/service. DR is currently owned by Generac which is a massive company not going anywhere (and very familiar with electricity). Generac also owns Mean Green Mowers which many view as the original commercial electric zero turn. Also, on this model, they are using the Hydrogear Smartec components system for their blade and wheel motors and not something "proprietary" which puts me a little more at ease in terms of long-term support/availability. Smartech also has a service app for diagnostics and repair, which in theory should be minimal.
Good job! Looks like a fine saw.
Yes very capable and great ergonomics.... limitation is battery life , but if you are on the Makita platform it is likely a non issue in most applilications
How does this compare to the EGO zero turn electric mowers? I was thinking of getting the EGO 42" because I'm already invested their product line and have been very pleased with their tools but the build quality on this DR mower appears to be considerably stronger than the EGO mowers. Also, I live in Arizona, in a riparian area, not the smoothest ground, with lots of ruts and gopher mounds. Do you think this would handle those conditions OK? Thanks for the excellent review by the way.
I love the concept of sticking with the same platform, but the build on the ego definitely feels lighter IMO. I like that DR is using a drive/controller system by Hydrogear and not something proprietary. Did you see the other video I made on the ego? Not a full review but an out of the box first impression
