If you do have to do a smaller cut at the top or the bottom of the wall... Where would you normally put it, top or bottom?
I'm tiling a wall and walkin shower which is 2250 high with 600x300 tiles. The tray has a 20mm step up from the top of the floor tiles. There's a couple of windows to get around as well. I'm testing out different tile orientations at the moment. There's a 20mm step up from the top of the floor tiles to the top of the shower tray that I need to go around. I could have a 150mm row at the bottom or 150mm row at the top of I tile the 600mm horizontally, or I could tile the 600mm vertically and stagger the tiles to absorb the 150mm with the part tiles... A few options to think about! Any other thoughts would be very welcome if anyone else has had this dilemma.
Hey, I'd approach it like this... What's in your eye line. So if there is a window or a Niche, Those are 2 things I'd be looking to set the tiles from on first impressions. I'd check top and bottom how that works. "If it works out bad can I raise or lower window seal/niches" (ideally all these things would be on the same line to be symmetric). You've got a 20mm step at the bottom, so you can't ideally have a joint running through that, as that would look silly. Regards small cuts, If there is nothing you can do about it, it is what it is sometimes. I'd probably rather have it on the floor, If it was over 100mm at the bottom of the shower tray that would also be acceptable if other things work out good. Really you've just got to keep doing what you are doing, looking at various ways.. And then once you find a couple of things that justify your set out. Go with that. Hope that helps mate.
I answer this one in previous comment
@thebespokebloke thanks for the reply. I'm juggling the options! I think I'm inclined to go with the small cut at the bottom, as on the main wall it will be hidden to some extent by a freestanding bath and toilet. Now the next dilemma in my head... Shall I tile upwards, and therefore have to try and estimate as best I can the height of the small cuts at floor level... Or, start tiling from the ceiling down using some batten/supports for each course... I think I only need to do this on the back of the shower, and once that's done I'll have all the lines I need to accurately tile up from the other walls... Hmmmm🤔
@@dave9105xcxcx It sounds like you're on the right track with setting out mate. have a look at this video regards your approach to how to start. I show how you can measure your lines to work to, When starting from the bottom. th-cam.com/video/m7geX9qmE7w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=OLGYhC-mS5C-1tWg
i guess you can use a drill to cut the holes where you used an angle grinder?
You can mate for sure, But you'll find it a lot easier with an angle grinder. But a drill will do the job.
Why are you cutting the toilet drain? You would have cut a u shape and it would cover it anyway! You are making your own work more difficult
What? This is a video of how to cut tiles. But FYI that was an exposed toilet pan. (So you would see the rear)
Hello How long does it take to tile an average 20 square meter bathroom, for example with 30x60 tiles?
Hey, There are a lot of factors.. Like are the walls good, is there windows, niches e.t.c as those things are time consuming. But anywhere between 2 and 4 days I'd say depending on them factors with grouting. Hope that helps.
@@thebespokebloke And you don't do the silicone coating, toilet, etc. installation anymore?
@@zolibesze Yep, Just pure tiles for me these days, Separate trades handle that.
Masterclass tiling, what a great result. Probably the best youtube video out there for enveloping.
Awesome! Thanks for the kind words, Glad you liked it mate!
Is that in a shower? How did you waterproof it
Hey, That one isn't.. But the other one is in this video. If you need any waterproofing info, There's plenty on my page. Hope that helps! th-cam.com/video/t7jTOpeG91w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=w4uTXcIa5Eok3ULe
Very informative mate. Can you please do a whole video on how you use a grinder to cut straight accurate shower splits/valley cuts. This is one thing thats over looked by alot of tilers.. Cheers
Thanks man, There is a little bit about envelope cuts in this Wet Room video. But I can do something a bit more focused if that helps th-cam.com/video/9ox5TUptoLY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uYvtNV6qWuvMnYqD
soo greateful for this video, thanks
Awesome, Glad it was helpful! 🍻
Newb question - the BAL flex one is double the price of the Kerakoll S1 semi rapid set. (Latter being like 13 to 15 quid and the BAL being 25-27 quid.) Any reason to opt for the BAL in general given the big difference?
Mainly trust, The Bal Flex One has been out for probably over 5 years now and is absolute bullet proof. Where as Kerakoll products have changed their mix a few times to refine them. Which now the SetaFlex being the go to is a very good product (although different technology). I do use both, But with the Bal's characteristics (being a bit more gritty) I find it a very clean adhesive to use for tiling, and has good body (no sag especially for floors). So long story short, Just personal preference really, they are both great products!
What disc do you use on your angle grinder? Thanks
Bihui B Disc mate, They are very decent. www.protilertools.co.uk/product/bihui-b-speedy-diamond-cutting-blade-115mm-bu-dcdm115?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA4L67BhDUARIsADWrl7Hzvm1yfsO0EszgRbTGyLKHSnPXuUmzq9B530ayRebKKmGAwjHkrlMaArG0EALw_wcB
Didn’t think you could do electrics in shower area ?
Yes, As long as they are a certain distance away from wet areas mate (Hard wired) Most towel radiators these days have hard wired electric.
@ looked like this was actually in the shower area though?
@@russellscott1151 Ah you're talking about the LED cable? Sorry I thought you meant the rad socket to the right. The LED's or any lights that go in wet areas are usually low voltage or ip rated for water mate.
@ ah ok I presumed ‘any’ electrics including low voltage. Thanks.
Shouldn’t they have used MR plasterboard?
Ideally you want to be tiling onto Backerboard there days, But outside of wet areas standard plasterboard is fine mate.
For the love of god can you just come and do our shower rooms already 😅
Haha Sorry Matt, But hopefully these videos are a good guide of what you want the final finish to be! Happy new year mate 🍻
Love this tip, will help massively with my kitchen floor project as the floor is a little wonky even after latexing 😂
Awesome! Yeah, it can be tricky to get things 100% perfect unless you sometimes add over the top again to low patches of the floor. Glad it will help mate!
Oh bloody hell... Thanks mate I've taken on a bathroom some else started and didn't use anything.. Been a complete shit show but thats going help me out
Sounds a fun one ha! But glad to be of service! Maybe the Bihui ones you can slot on after could be helpful to, if there is some areas to get them in. But best of luck mate 🤞
Hope you had a good Christmas, great video yet again 👍
Thanks man, You to! It's been nice and chill so far well needed 🙏
Hi have you used the cheap ora ge and black version of these which have been available for years quite cheap.they seem similar to these. Any thoughts ?.
Hey mate, I haven't used them,, But I know of them.. I'd imagine they are much same maybe just quality being the difference.
Another top job and great instruction. Merry Christmas mate

I amlost watched all your tutorial vidoe, good good where are u from. love from NZ
Awesome, Glad you liked them mate.. I'm from the south of the UK
Thats a rough way to cut the trim i use a mitre saw with a carbide blade
No need when you've got an angle grinder mate, Same finish when you're used to it.
Are they really power sockets in a shower room?? Great video btw.
Thanks, Glad you liked it! Yeah hard wired electric radiator. It's pretty common in the UK.. They have to be in certain zones and ip rated etc.
Hey man, this was such a great video. It gave me a huge amount of confidence to do the same in my bathroom. I've done a video on it, and credited you for the technique. Thanks!
That's awesome! Glad it helped out mate, Will look out for the video! Have a great Christmas 🍻

Pretty pretty cool bro 🎉Merry Christmas
@@carlosmanueles7110 Thanks man, Merry Christmas 🍻
@@thebespokebloke Merry Xmas 👍
How many millimeters does the tile extend beyond the niche sill? 10mm?
Yeah normally the tile thickness plus a few mill is plenty mate, As the trim adds a couple of mm as well. I'd normally leave between 10-15mm as I can always pack the internal tiles out if need be. Hope that helps mate!
@@thebespokebloke thanks you for sharing. You did a fantastic job.

Bro you are the fucking man. These videos are crazy good
Awesome, Glad you like them mate!
Thx for the video. Do you know if the Series 4 Nex 95cm cutter can be reversed to a push to score as well?
Yep I believe it can mate, just un bolt and slide the handle around the same.
@@thebespokebloke thanks mate. Upon more research. For series 4 NEX is the Push model. UP is the pull Their model sizes are frustrating. If I have a 600mm tile, I can’t do diagonal cuts with the 840mm model ART4CU. It’s short by 1cm and need to move up to the 950mm model ART4DN
@@Tigerratcat Yes mate, 900 is a good size for diagonals on 600's, TBH I use my 900 most of the time as it's also nice to have the space when working with a 600 . Yep the 4DN is the better mechanism for sure! Basically the same as the MAX on the 3 series
bruh the fck u doing?
I use to cut on the ground like you. I use a table to cut at chest high. That saves your knees, legs and back alot of pain in the long run.
Tbh the only pain I ever get is in my back is from using a mixer.
Great video, very informative, but trying to track down a Bihui B-Magic Porcelain cutting Disc with a sensible postage cost is liking trying to find unicorn tears. Where do you get yours from?

Glad it was useful mate!
Bro you need to start wearing knee pads trust me
I know, I normally squat more these days.. Which is probably worse ha! I just find kneepads incredibly annoying to wear. Luckily it's winter now, and I'll have them in my trousers 🙏
I found your TH-cam channel about three months ago and found it initially interesting and informative. However, having seen the majority of your videos, I can no longer subscribe because I find some of your practices pretty basic and unsound.

I just discovered your channel, I'm watching through all your older videos now, great stuff :-) Can you tell me what tiles you used on this job, they look great?
Awesome. Glad you are liking the vids! I know they were made by Saloni..a 90x45 porcelain. Not sure that I could have undertaken the initial brief of herringbone along the whole splashback including a window recess and sill, but luckily the 'client' (aka my GF!) changed her mind and just wanted the section behind the cooker tiled. Wanted to post a pic but not able to, sadly. Great tips - thanks for sharing your skills. Can add this to my professional arsenal now and I managed to get a great deal on a Sigma cutter, which is brilliant! Thanks again! 🎉🎉
Awesome glad to hear mate! and glad the GF didn't make it to painful for you haha! It's always very satisfying to stand back and know you accomplished that, so great job and I'm sure the Sigma helped wonders! You can always email me a pic if you like of course.
ugly floor but a top tiler
Liking the look of these although a box of 50 aren’t going to get you too far are they? You’re going to need at least 2 boxes I’d have thought? But these ones negate any issue of marking the tile surface that people complain about with the spin y ones and I love the way you can insert them after you’ve layed the tile. Think I might get a few. Thanks.
Absolutely mate and you'll build up a bit of a collection over time.
That would do my head in every time I went in there 😂
It's busy mate for sure!
Why are they better than the G spin?
I'd say big plusses are.. The fact you can put them in after the tile is a big bonus, Sometimes with the GLS if they are not completely straight they can throw your joint. If you're adding to tiling the next day, you only need to leave a tiny hole for the T piece to slot into, to attach to the already set tile. With the fact they are re-usable to, I think just makes them an all round upgrade. I was speaking to the rep the other day and these BIHUI one's are flying off the shelves I think for those reasons. GLS spin is still a very good level clip, I'd say these are just a step up now.
@@thebespokebloke Thanks. I'm doing some initial research before attempting to tile about 100 sq m of various things (herringbone layout porcelain, bathrooms, etc... all need self levelling too). I've done self levelling but never tiling before. I'm tempted to get someone else to do it but just going through some research first :) Out of interest do you take on jobs, if so where are you based? We are in W London. Cheers
Nice work
