An Update from Khaleel, March 2
มุมมอง 2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Thank you all for your support. People have been asking how they can help me and the tiny shelter residents. I’ve recorded a video to answer some of the questions I’ve been getting this past week. To give you an update, the City has not dropped its case against me. The tiny shelters were meant to give temporary shelter to those in need. People still need them. Yesterday there was an Extreme Col...

Khaleel's Statement, February 22
มุมมอง 19K3 ปีที่แล้ว
The City of Toronto has a housing crisis. This pandemic has made it worse. The shelter system has left many people with no options. With winter approaching, I knew that without shelter people would die, as they do in Toronto every year. I started building tiny shelters so that some of the most vulnerable could have somewhere warm to go. The shelters I built are a small part of a temporary solut...

In this interview, the city shows a picture of a burned down Tiny Shelter at Moss Park. We know for a fact that this act of arson was part of a domestic dispute on December 7, 2020. We spoke to the woman staying in the shelter and learned the details. Her partner intentionally set fire to materials surrounding the shelter. The fire department arrived and tore apart the shelter to ensure no one ...

Humans have literally known since the stone age that housing is essential to life. Denying housing is a crime against humanity
Keep fighting! Hope you are doing well my friend! Thinking of you. 💪♥️
Wow this is absolutely fantastic what you have accomplished! Give yourself a pat on the back you deserve it. Not only to the community but for you! You changed the solution for the people! I donated to this compassionate cause! My father was homeless. So I completely understand this. This city doesn't care, no compassion for the homeless people. It's very disturbing Behavior. They care about they're own! So wrong. I made over 16,000 masks for the homeless. I gave them out to whom ever I saw in Toronto. They are so appreciative, kind humans, just like us. I understand that go fund me page was shut down. I truly hope you received your money to give...take care my friend! 👏👏👏♥️ (Edited for grammar)
What is necessary is legal, or needs to be made legal.
God bless you! Thank you ❣️
God bless you bro
I went to highschool with Khaleel, he's a genuine dude who always had a smile on his face. Im trying to get a gentleman off the streets, have been calling the intake for days to try getting him a place to say and they don't have any free beds. This city is an absolute joke. This world is such a cruel place full of selfish people.
Hi Khaleel, could you build me a shelter that I can haul to Nova Scotia, how much would it cost. I moved to a remote location there but have still not been able to build a cabin due to the high cost of material and tools. Have been sleeping in my van for a couple of months.
The dude's still a friggin hero. Saw some recently by Allan Gardens almost a year later. I would totally buy this guy a beer.
And I'll buy him dinner!
My God....they are Truly Wicked Murderers!!! It's the same way in the USA....God bless you Immensely 🙏😍🌹
Pray Brother for our people. Human Trafficking That's why.
God bless you Immensely brother.... I've been homeless running from Sex Traffickers in Atlanta, Georgia for the past 3 years. I live from tent to tent. They keep stealing my tents and foods. The USA Government won't do anything to help me and I've contacted them over 100 times. Keep doing what you're doing....in Jesus name...Amen
I remain inspired by all you are doing. I donated over 5 months ago, follow your updates, and just read the profile of you in The New York Times. You are a role model for the best in all of us. Proud to be your fellow Torontonian!!
Do u know Elvis Summers? You should!!
Fasten your seatbelts. Hong Kong residents transferred over 40 billion dollars to Canada, which will most likely be used to price local, tax paying Canadians out of renting or having their own homes. The problem will only get worse. Politicians will do nothing about it. Foreign inflows of money will make also turn this country's middle class homeless very fast. Add more foreign capital from the million or so immigrants expected in this country in the next 3-5 years. The country needs to solve this affordability problem before bringing more people in. And limit capital from a country with billions of people with so many millionaires. I'm sorry to say but JT will make this country impossible to live in if he stays any longer
A friend of mine recently reported that her Fathers tiny shelter was demolished and removed with all their belongings inside if it. Her father was was happy to have his tiny shelter, something that he called home and for once in his 20 plus years of homelessness has something that he felt and called his home. The city should be ashamed of themselves. They want us to social distance and stay home when possible but yet our homeless population is being targeted. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. Giving back is such a rewarding feeling and I hooe that you are able to continue this amazing project. ❤
Toronto is as corrupt as any other city the unions hold the power
Thank you so much
Well said 👏
It's ironic, as he mentioned Trudeau has ignored his emails. I happen to have a legal solution for him and he doesn't bother to get a hold of me. There is no way to breach property rights in Canada, and if there were we would be scourned by the capitalist world and wind up being treated like Venezuela (Remember Chavez housed all the poor people) What Khaleel needs to do is fight this battle by acquiring property rights, otherwise he is just putting food on lawyers tables that promise him that they will take this to the Supreme Court. It is sad to see these young people so gravely naive, but with good intentions. Khaleel can make a difference, and so can his gofundme account, but he has to understand some VERY fundamental principals before fighting against the beast, a beast who in 2020 does not even acknowledge nor respect our basic charter rights. Khaleel you want to make a difference? Give me a call, check your gmail i sent you a letter
Get real...so it's safer to stay outside but not to have a roof, lock and a door. This is why I left govt.
Khaleel done more good for our city than any career politicians done in their lifetime.
affordable housing now!!! You'rer making a difference in our community, you very well might have saved lives this winter!
Fighting affordable housing is akin to fighting and invisible enemy like the War or Terror, or the war on the disease
Thank you Khaleel.
Thank you so much for my shelter. Much love and strength for the coming battle. 💜💙💚💙💜
You're amazing
Maybe this guy sb running for public at least he helps people
We will teach the city lesson, we will march the day of the court case and we will raise $$ for this guy through go fund me. The problem is the bour·geoi·sie politicians. They are such lousy leaders both city and province, we will watch who we vote for next time around.
Such bs. They are programmed so. Pathetic. Remember this when they are trolling for your votes. Robots. Government vibe.
You are an angel in my eyes!! Your work is helping countless people. From time to time my children and I will go out and give blankets/food or some money to the homeless population in the downtown core. Break my heart every time I see someone sleeping on the streets it breaks my heart..
keeping the people well is more important than keeping the city pretty (and oblivious). you are doing crucial work!
thank you Khaleel and the ESN!!!
Keep fighting!
I can't stand how Tory sees these as the problem when REALLY the problem is the lack of affordable housing. He takes care of THAT issue, there won't be a need for these will there? It's time for him to decide that he wants to be the mayor know for helping the most destitute in Toronto during a global pandemic and fix the housing situation (which is needed in Toronto because of the ease of travel to the various agencies many of the poorest of the citizenry need to access to survive and avoid becoming criminal elements in the city. They can't just LEAVE when all the agencies are located downtown or it's closest environs) and then he can live off the surfeit of goodwill he'll engender for that one act for the rest of his life. These are merely community funded and collectively driven TEMPORARY fixes to problems he has been unwilling to solve up to this point.
Very well-said, Khaleel. You are doing a great job and the City needs more people like you. Keep pursuing your good work!
The city might like it better if cosmetically the tiny huts were pretty on the outside - like miniature homes .... maybe, I dunno.
"ALL THE EMERGENCY SHELTER AND OTHER NGOs staff who could lose their jobs if homelessness is solved and their services are no longer needed would push for such a legal action. There are enough asses on fire to nag the mayor and council for such a decision! Write to you council to tell them this is wrong and that you want them to withdraw the case, and partner with him instead. all of you writing will put enough to put this fire off."
The city might cosmetically look better if more people were as stubborn as Budd Dwyer about being called by the weak to be patsies for the weak.
Always keep fighting for homeless rights. Everyone deserves human rights no matter what. We will stand with you
The City wants to let people freeze to death.
They way they lie is bullshit.
I've always wondered about the homeless especially in the winter months. I support this cause.
We support you!!!
please continue with your good work.
This is not random. You are doing important work that the city should be helping you with not trying to prevent.
anyone advocating against these shelters should have to live in one for a month during winter.
Bless You! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Salute to you khaleel u are an honorable man.. its crazy how a carpenter is able to do more to help the homeless than the government.. unreal
It is a crime for the city to remove the belongings of private citizens. The city is stealing from the homeless. This is so shameful. The shelter system is a revolving door. People are given a certain amount of time, then they are back on the streets if they don't find permanent housing. They have to start again with nothing because of the theft perpetrated by city staff.
