Thanks for the mention of Aptera. They revealed their production intent models, and offered test drives featuring the EV's new motor, carbon fiber tub, and full, working solar package. The onboard solar assist was able to provide nearly all of the power required for daytime test drives without needing to plug in to recharge. 🚗🌞

It was good to see them finally show a car that runs on the energy from the solar panel and also show how much energy they were producing. It's a good start, but I think they are far from being able to mass produce anything as I think there is a lot of testing to do. Some independent testing would be good. They were saying they could go 20 miles on the power of the sun but the most I saw the car producing was around 250 kW. It's supposed to produce as much as 700 kW so I'm not sure if it's doing great in the Las Vegas winter sun or not. But how far would it go doing 65 using solar power? How well will it do in real world application? I'm glad they are finally sharing some actual data on an actual solar car, but I think they have a long way to go.
@@Molishious Any power added is more that all other EVs can do today. 250 watts in winter translates to adding 15 miles a day of range to the 400 miles that the Aptera should be able to do already. Remember that this BEV has a 46kWh battery pack. It says so much that they were able to do their test drives and end the day with more power than they started with! I believe that track and road testing begins next week.
Words for the machines.
About Tesla...Who knew alienating the mostly likely buyer by insulting them and the places they live would backfire on your company's sales... Probably not the key driver tbh, but I know it's part of the decision matrix for most people I know on why they move from Tesla to some other brand on their current round of upgrades...
I would buy anything before I would give Musk a dime.

The take on Tesla is nonsense. Have you driven fsd13? It is near complete and at $8k this is a steal. 2025 could easily be the tipping point, a gpt moment.
Mortgage your house, max out your cards, and buy the stock, then. 🤣 (I'm just kidding. Do not do this. It could go badly.)
@@joborras9063 already invested heavily 10 years ago and I'm doing fine. listen to manufacture and engineer analysts, not financial analysts. the first are oriented long term, the second on a quarterly basis. Tesla is close to delivering ADAS with several million vehicles already containing the needed hardware. They just flip a switch to billions of dollars of additional revenue. Missing on this is missing on Apple, Amazon, and NVidia.
😂😂😂😂😂
On semis you are missing the key point: tesla will rapidly scale and have self driving, and the others won't.
Volvo and Freightliner are both working on autonomous ADAS solutions. Tesla's won't start driving themselves anytime soon.
@@joborras9063 Everybody says they are working on ADAS solutions, Tesla has the compute and engineering to be first to deliver. FSD 13, out now, is very close. FSD hardware is already built into the existing fleet of several million vehicles and is included in the semi production vehicle. Tesla can already scale in the millions. It would be wonderful if the competition can do the same.
@@rainerdeusser as they say: we'll see.
Good show today, punchy and tight. The Volvo is a good pick, as would be the late arriving Mach-E Rallye, or the Lucid Gravity that had its first customer deliveries today. Throttle House, pure car junkies, picked the electric Hyundai Ionic 5N as their Best Car of '24 based purely on how much fun it is to drive. We live in a transfo0rmational era. I once worried whether the EV revolution would survive, but today we are overwhelmed with a variety of very competent and distinct choices in the EV market. There was a time when a bad president could have been an ender for the EV Revolution. That time has passed. From the eCascadia to the 500e, there is a valid EV for every use case. This is a world away from the risk I took buying my 2011 Nissan LEAF made before the first Tesla Model S was delivered. With its 3rd owned now, that LEAF is still making daily commutes today.
Great to see so many commercial vehicles finally going electric, they have big impact on getting our cities greener
I think Fred should use the term ‘premature’ in place of ‘false’ in the articles he pens about Tesla. He can use the term ‘false’ when Tesla actually cancels a product they were hyping for a long time. So far, most of what Elon announced gets delivered, but very delayed like the Tesla Semi and robo-taxi. I am still wondering about the Roadster 2 which doesn’t seem like an important lever to push renewables.
You are wrong in this case. Fred said "false" about the statement that Tesla said it would be increasing the price for FSD. It was clearly a false statement. Has nothing to do with canceling poducts.
@@bojohansson1110 Exactly. The notion that Tesla cars were appreciating assets is just incorrect.
Love the show, Bro!
Thanks!
Bizzyforks is trash
It always worries me when some alleged EV proponent confuses kilowatts for kilowatt hours. “We wanna be carbon neutral for every kilowatt that goes into Honda vehicles“ just sounds like a buffoon.
Tesla is looking at producing a Hydrogen car. The You-tube back flipping on Hydrogen, is going to be ridiculously funny 😅
Words that come to mind: Obtuse. Specious. Effete.
Sounds like you got a nice mirror for Christmas. Enjoy it!
@@joborras9063 Yeah, whatever. I generally find my intuition about people is correct.
Nikola lied about their tech by claiming they had proprietary inverters and fuel cell technology. They are just assembling tech by other companies and claiming it their own.
So if Honda has been looking at Hydrogen for 40 years why haven't they come up with a compelling product? There is no infrastructure for hydrogen. The Tesla Semi Class 8 truck has proved that a battery Semi can and does work. Battery electric trucks are in use in Europe right now. There is no hydrogen infrastructure worth talking about - some stations are even closing due to lack of demand. Hydrogen is a dirty by-product of the fossil fuel industry - it will never catch on as the cost to build these fuel stations is too expensive compared to EV charging stations - which are now everywhere - eg., there are more EV charging stations here in the UK than petrol stations. One Hydrogen fuel station in Norway blew up. Norway has 0ver 95% pure EV. In a cold climate like Norway is another proof that EVs are the answer - not hydrogen.
You can’t beat electric trucks if you watch the Electric trucker on TH-cam I think he’s from Germany and he’s definitely worth watching
Green Hydrogen efficiency for solar panel/windmill trough electrolyses, compression, distribution, charging, fuel cell to motor to the road is about 35%. The BEV efficiency solar panel to road is about 85%. And with the Tesla rolling out 1200 kW charging for their trucks I don't see any reason why hydrogen technology can be of any interest for the trucking industrie.
Happy Holidays!
Hydrogen is the solution for heavy machinery (construction and farm), heavy transportation and inner City transport of people. Hyundai has been testing its hydrogen trucks here in Europe for the past 8 years
This was a softball interview. The lack of true green hydrogen is the Achilles’ heel of the entire hydrogen argument. Add to that the monumental technological challenges of trying to contain hydrogen-a minuscule proton that relentlessly escapes from any container, fitting, pipe, or tube we attempt to confine it in-and the case for hydrogen becomes far shakier than most are willing to admit. On top of that, blue hydrogen is a mess, relying on completely unproven technologies that have never demonstrated the capability to work at scale. The entire hydrogen cycle being promoted by the fossil fuel industry is orders of magnitude less efficient than battery-electric systems powered by solar, wind, or even hydroelectric energy-not hydrogen, by the way. Most scientists agree that manufacturing blue hydrogen, which is essentially glorified black hydrogen, is so inefficient and carbon-intensive that it’s actually less polluting to simply burn fossil fuels directly as we do now. This so-called ‘solution’ is more about preserving the fossil fuel industry than advancing clean energy. The use case Honda is promoting represents a fraction of a fraction of the real-world use cases that heavy industry will actually require. While there may be some narrow potential for hydrogen in specific industrial applications, moving things on tires will not be one of them-full stop. The inefficiency, infrastructure demands, and scalability issues make hydrogen a non-starter for transportation compared to battery-electric solutions, which are already far ahead in terms of feasibility and adoption.
And Joe knows it!
Yup. It was an interview, not a debate.
An interview should delve deeper than surface-level talking points, especially when engaging with a spokesperson representing a significant topic like energy. A well-rounded discussion would balance the guest’s message with thoughtful, relevant questions that challenge assumptions or address the broader implications of their position. This approach not only provides the audience with a more comprehensive understanding but also holds the guest accountable to informed viewers who seek substantive dialogue rather than PR. In this case, the guest stated they were open to answering any questions-why not take them at their word? Avoiding critical or probing inquiries risks turning the platform into little more than a megaphone for the fossil fuel industry. With respect, I think you could have pushed the conversation further. That said, I’m still a huge fan of your work and deeply appreciate what you bring to the table. Thank you!
@@lakersalex that can be your show. Unfortunately, mine is the ONLY show currently on the internet, so you're stuck with it.

Ask him what happened to the Clarity FCVs and why. I saw a long line of them parked at a large dealer service center; service mgr said "We can't fix them. Honda has flown out engineers from Japan and we are going to have to replace them all." Honda has a lot of catching up to do.
Hydrogen fuel cell range extender, instead of gas range extender…interesting.
Interesting doesn't always win out (think Chrysler Turbine), but it's always cool.
They should look at Charbone Hydrogen Corp- They split water, not fossil fuels. And they're using hydro power to do it.
The argument against using fossils in hydrogen isn't that fossils are bing split, it's that the electricity being produced to do the work of electrolysis is done generated with fossil fuels.
@@joborras9063 Well sure, but they're avoiding both. And the more we can reduce reliance on fossil fuels the better.

Tesla decline is due to Model Y Juniper refresh just around the corner - buyers are waiting for the refresh Model Y due out in January. Merry Christmas to all at Electrek and all those who watch this channel.
I don’t think the average car buyer knows about that. I’m sticking to my guns: this is an artificial decline caused by an artificial spike in ‘23 driven by an expiration date on the incentive.

100%. Plenty of explainers here that aren't "Tesla is losing ground ..."
I think that Tesla's sales dropoff in Europe was largely because of increased competition from China, pre-tariffs. Plus outside of big discounts, many new buyers will be holding off for the Juniper Model Y to come out. For the new Honda concepts, you can see from the dimmed pics that they are carrying on the ugly shop-vac styling that will hopefully never see a production line. I do like Honda's new production efficiency directives, as well as BMW's novel approach to battery recycling.
@@deanmcmanis4862 BMW just annouced a partnership with Toyota to develop the H file. Good Luck 😂
People are finally waking up that Tesla is just a hype.
exactly all the "best scams" invariably have an EXPIRATION DATE. eventually the "Sand" must run OUT OF THE HOUR GLASS and naturally some Ponzi schemes of course run out of "Sand" sooner than others ref: ENRON, Bernie Madoff/Madoff Investments, Beth Holmes/Theranos, Sam Fried/FTX Crypto, etc.
Great news!
@joborras9063 Hey, I'm a freelance voice actor and wanted to give back to the channel since i've been a daily listener for a few months now, I've re-recorded the Quick charge introas it sounds a bit dated. LMK if you're interested. I'm offering it royalty and license free.
