GM makes the Honda Prologue, but the sales count for Honda, yet in China Wuling makes cars in a joint venture with GM and BAIC and GM counts those sales as their own, even thought GM is not the majority stakeholder and the cars are branded Wuling. Does anyone know why there is such inconsistency in counting car sales?
Honda and GM are not in a joint venture; GM simply manufactures the Prologue, much like BMW manufactures the Toyota Supra. In a joint venture, it is determined internally which company can account for what. The distinction between majority and minority stakeholders is irrelevant in this context. What matters is the agreement established within the joint venture.
