Extreme Bull Griffin Build Quality: The Definitive Verdict Is In

In this video, I unbox and give my thoughts on the Extreme Bull Griffin as I assemble it. This EUC was expected to have Leaperkim-style oil/coil suspension stanchions, but they took a different route at the last minute and went with an air suspension this time around with the Griffin. I was definitely surprised by the suspension quality and the build quality - but we will discuss that in the fu...

    This was a potentially-interesting video but for me the music interfered with my ability to clearly hear what you were saying. I gave up at 06:32 into the video. I don't have the patience to repeatedly reverse the video and then replay sections to figure out what you said. A significant portion of the people who might buy a very costly wheel like this are older men; retired guys with money in their pockets. Many of our ears have suffered decades of industrial noise and have degraded hearing acuity. Unnecessary music obscures your message.

      @ I use an Apple iPad Air and 72-year-old ears. 72? What? Yes, I am 72 and I own two EUCs, an e-scooter, 5 bicycles, and several pairs of hiking boots all of which get used in various combinations several times a week. I am not dead yet but my hearing is no longer great. I respectfully suggest that those making video and audio media for public consumption familiarize themselves with the concept of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). SNR is a fundamental concept in communications. There is a WIKI page on it plus professional papers beyond count. Decide what you want to be the signal - the main message - and figure out what others might experience as noise that will obscure your message. Then, if you want be an effective communicator, maximize the clarity of the signal and minimize the noise.

    Not sure where this idea is coming from that the wheel is trying to somehow become a sphere, or what possible physical mechanism is being claimed that would cause such thing and bring it about, but there is no such physical force that corresponds to this claim. There is nothing that makes a wheel try to be a sphere, and this is not a phenomenon with any basis in real world physics. It also fails to explain the exact same phenomenon in multiple other platforms, and in particular, skateboards. In reality, the real cause of speed wobbles on all such systems is the same, and is a phenomenon in physics known as a Hopf bifurcation. The Hopf bifurcation is a broadly occurring physical phenomenon in numerous, vastly disparate and diverse systems, that causes a physical system that was originally in equilibrium in a static state to transform into one in which the system is now in a preferred equilibrium while in oscillation. As stated, Hopf bifurcations occur in many, widely different systems, from skateboards and Onewheels, to shopping cart caster wheels, to predator prey population dynamics in ecological systems. Below a certain threshold, determined by various metrics unique to each system, the entire system is in equilibrium with the main factors remaining static. So skateboards continue to roll in a straight line, Onewheels, EUCs, and shopping cart wheels roll with no pitch or yaw, and increases in prey populations cause a steady increase in predator populations (and vice versa). But after the threshold is passed, the system switches to a dynamic equilibrium state, where the system is most stable oscillating between two extents. Increased distance from the threshold value causes the extents of the oscillations to widen, thus causing the oscillations to grow in amplitude (but usually not frequency) and become more violent. The most obvious “trick” to reduce the wobble is to do something to bring the system back below the Hopf bifurcation threshold value. In rolling wheeled systems, that means getting it back below the system’s Hopf bifurcation speed. If one wishes to continue to keep the system above the Hopf bifurcation threshold, i.e., ride above the speed that wobbles naturally set in, the rider must reduce the inevitable oscillations that occur above the system’s Hopf bifurcation threshold by damping the system on the oscillation axis. A note: an untrained rider will often do exactly the opposite: instead of damping the oscillations, they panic, and instead react to the system attempting to do what feels like turning out from under them by trying to turn back the other way. But because they are reacting rather than acting, their natural reaction time causes them to input the force to turn in the opposite direction at exactly the time that the system has already switched to the opposite oscillation, and, instead of damping the oscillations, they actually add addition energy to them, causing their amplitude to increase! So how does one dampen these oscillations? At lower speed (and consequently lower amplitude oscillations) often the best response is no response at all. Rather, allow the EUC, Onewheel, skateboard, etc, to just oscillate naturally as it would otherwise do, under your feet. The natural behavior of the Hopf bifurcation will eventually cause a wobble in one direction to reverse and come back on its own, no rider input required. Being able to dampen your own instinctive, automatic, natural reaction to the device seemingly turning out from under you takes training and experience. THAT is what you are gaining as you ride, not, as many people claim, strengthened calf muscles, stronger tendons on the ankles or feet, or any other physical change in the rider’s body. Rather, it is a change in the neural linkages that dictate instinctive response to what is essentially the rider beginning to fall, learning to ignore what your body would normally react to by trying to catch itself. This damping of natural, instinctive, neural response is mode-dependent, BTW, which is why, when you first switch modes from riding to back to standing or walking, you can feel unsteady or clumsy for the first few minutes, to the point that you can even look drunk. Your neural networks in your spinal column and cerebellum are full ignoring proprioceptive sensory signals that normally allow you to stay upright while standing and walking, making you unstable until you mode switch back to “normal” mode. Placing weight on one leg on an EUC also works because it dampens the oscillations on one side in a way that avoids this natural tendency to amplify rather than dampen the oscillations on the other (because you can’t switch weight from one side to the other if you only have your weight on the one side!). Likewise, leaning far back dampens the oscillations by not only reducing your speed (closer to the Hopf bifurcation point of the system) but also by placing equal pressure on both sides of the system, damping its oscillations on both sides while not amplifying them on either. You could also achieve a similar effect by driving your shins and knees forward, even while leaning your weight back, to slow or maintain speed, and putting equal pressure on both front pads, again dampening the system’s oscillations from both sides. Which works best can depend a lot on the specifics: the terrain, the device, the rider’s body (weight, height, center of mass, skill, etc., and the best option can change from situation to situation. There’s a lot more to it, but that’s the basics!

    Waterproof on this weel better than all weels, other wheels write about a greater degree of protection from water, but they are simply lying about it. Never believe what they write about waterproofing, all you need is to come to a service center and ask there about how often moisture gets into the wheels, into the bearing, into the controller, into the motor wheels, into the body and other places. Here in Russia, in service centers they immediately say that the Veteran Links and Sherman L are better than all other wheels. I am not even talking about what will happen if you launch some shitty Begod down a mountain or fall with it at speed, the Veteran will be fine, but the Begod or Extreme Bull will have to be literally taken apart so that their wheels will move again.

I've never ridden a wheel I like better than my Lynx but I sometimes like to really get on it and it takes its toll on the charge. I recently went on a 42.5 mile ride and I was sweating it about making it back home. I have the 62lb springs and the Kenda knobby. I would get the street tire if I got an L. Would you recommend the 66lb? The 62 is great on my Lynx. Hard to justify $4,500 for more range but I am so hooked on riding I'm on it almost every day. What are your recommendations? Thanks! I personally own the L for long street rides and the Lynx (with Shinko 244 tire) for trail rides. Started learning last night for an hour, then tonight for an hour. I will try your technique of doing hopping circles and hopping straight. Then try riding with one leg tomorrow night. I've been practicing only about an hour each night. I was able to learn the Onewheel in about 4-5 nights, it then clicked and I began to be comfortable with it, so I suspect my EUC might be the same learning process. BTW, I am 53 years old!

    No EUC companies will honor their warranties if water gets in and damage the board or others components (at least for now) its the same for cell phones !! Great review bud. BTW what pedals did you put on it ?? they look like Erides but they seems lighter

    • @WheelGoodTime
      @WheelGoodTime 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Those are the stock pedals, but they have the same risers that e-rides pedals have! So you have the benefit of having really lightweight pedals, but also high quality studs and heel/toe risers. The best of both worlds! I found them on AliExpress for about $70.

    6:04 I believe Begode has a patent on including pads with wheels, so other manufacturers can’t

    • @WheelGoodTime
      @WheelGoodTime 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That is true - but they all get around it, in general, by including pads in the box which are made by someone else. Beidou, specifically 🙂

    Wow this was awesomely goofy. A lot of this centered around Future Motion, the maker of Onewheels (capital o) but there's so many more and better options now. And they absolutely encourage modifications. There's people building onewheels with pneumatic tires for beach riding, everything you can think of. As far as lighting, I use a headlamp, easy peezy and better than a headlight since I can look around. For portability, I've never had a problem carrying any of my boards, and I own a Floatwheel, which is the heaviest onewheel around. It's 40 pounds which sucks to carry but is fine for short distances, which is all you need. And onewheels haven't nosedived from being overpowered for awhile now. They'll nosedive if power cuts off for whatever reason but so will an EUC. All that's just goofy arguments, but when you said "EUC's are more fun, it's a fact" you got me to click the downvote button. I'm no great EUC rider but I can get around and there's just no comparison for me, I'll take a onewheel any day. And your reasoning is telling: we really don't care about going 50 mph. Going 25 mph is more than I need. Anyway, enjoy your EUC! Maybe try to be more thoughtful in your videos though.

    Question: I'm new at this... Does cruising speed mean the top speed at where the euc is not wobbling or beeping❓️

    • @WheelGoodTime
      @WheelGoodTime 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Top cruising speed is the max potential speed a rider can go with a full battery without cutting out. 😊 It varies from person to person based on their weight, posture, etc.

    No thanks. Pads, seats and pedals shouldn’t be included for high performance EUCs. And, it’s just annoying to hear YT content creators harping on the accessories that most people change out regardless of what OEM accessories are included. Imho, I don’t even want the tire, trolley handle, headlight or kickstand included with a new high performance wheel. Imagine what awesome kickstands we’d have if it was simply left to the aftermarket suppliers. Instead, it would be better to demand better/ more transparent firmware… yeah, Leaperkim’s firmware is STILL insufficient, and every LK video should emphasize this ongoing problem until it’s fixed.

    Thoughts on fixing my V11 vs. getting a new S16? It's done 9000km over two motors & rims. Tire got punctured now so I need to take it apart again and debating this now. Side shells all should be replaced, suspension rails top chambers don't work (which makes for some more wobbliness), and ideally I'd replace some of the front assembly as that cracked after a fall too. So the question now is: is it worth spending the couple 100s of euros replacing and repairing vs. just getting a new, better, more durable wheel?

    Do you think the lower weight is meaningfully enough to make an actual difference compared to a T4/Pro or a S16Pro? I mean it's definitely lighter but probably also less stable and 26kg is still not that light to actually carry

      @@sazzowl_gaming8203 it has a smaller diameter compared to those and is much lighter in weight, so I don't think those EUCs are direct competitors to each other. This seems to be more of a "last mile wheel" type of thing.
