Gwenen 009
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 13 ก.ค. 2023
During lockdown I started to build a 009 layout. It's about 5 feet by 2 feet 3 inches. It's still ongoing and has been named Gwenen.

Gwenen Almost Deserted
มุมมอง 7434 หลายเดือนก่อน
June 2024. One of the points on Gwenen was causing locos to stall on it occasionally. I had to tip the layout on to its' back to get to the underneath of it. This meant that everything that wasn't glued down had to be removed. I took the opportunity to take some photos showing Gwenen almost deserted. I gave the layout a good clean and dust at the same time, and cleaned the trackwork too. The pr...

February 2024. An update to the video "A circuit of the layout" taken in May 2023. A passing loop has now been added with a small halt for the workers of the nearby business. Lots of figures and several vehicles are now in place. More work has been done to the scenery. Two of the coaches and all of the buildings now have lights. All the locos and rolling stock are now weathered.

Nice bit of running that tells a story.
Thanks, glad you like it 😊
Nice layout and you have done a good job of fitting so much in whilst keeping it different and interesting.
Thank you for your kind comments, glad you like my layout.
Now that's a great looking addition to your fleet, and it looks right at home on your layout. My grandson is certainly impressed with it. He's just uploaded an update on his 009-layout. We've enjoyed watching this video... Cheers James and Dylan 🙂👍
Thank you, glad you both enjoyed it. I’ve just watched your latest video too 😀😀
@Gwenen-009 How about that for timing 😁. I think Dylan is pleased now he's getting some little bits of scenic work done to his layout... cheers James 🙂👍
Can you tell me the layout board size please? I have been trying to work out the curves used on this super 009 layout.
Glad you like my layout, it's about 5 feet by 2 feet 3 inches.
Fabulous little RR!
@@tonyromano6220 thanks, glad you like it 👍. Have a look at the more recent videos and you can see the development of my layout 😊
Got to be my favorite model railway ever so much detail put into it fantastic tq

Great layout and great detail very nice regards Greg
Hi Greg, thanks for your kind comments. Glad you like my layout.
A standout are the figurenes which too often are not considered in detail but these look like real people and in authentic poses. Excellent layout.
Thanks for your kind comments, glad you like my layout. The figures are made by Modelu and are 3D scans of real people.
What a great model this is. The scenic work is fantastic and does not look at all contrived as so many "figure eight " type layouts do. A perfect balance of space and proportion. The filming and in particular editing was also top quality with great pace and timing 👌 In a word , superb.
@@terrynutlob4073 thank you very much for your kind comments, I’m really glad you like my layout.

A Brilliant Example of How to do A Model Railway in my Opinion. Great Skills 🙌🏻✨
@@donniblanco5239 thanks for your kind comments, glad you like the layout.
Beautifully done 009 layout!! Exquisite scenery, weathering, etc... If your layout is portable, definitely consider bringing it to a few of the 009 sponsored NG exhibitions if there are any local to you. You'd likely win some awards with it. Thanks for sharing!
@@WHJeffB thanks for your kind comments, I’m glad you like the layout. Unfortunately it’s not really portable and I’ve no way of transporting it 🙁
Wrong scale for me nowadays. My days on the 009 Society management team/committee (as hon. secretary) date back to the 1970's. But what an excellently developed and modelled layout, which appears to run as good as it looks. Well done.
@@DonMason-xh5rv Hi Don, thanks for your lovely comments. I’m very pleased to hear you like my layout 😀

Your 009 gauge layout looks beautiul!!! It's made me want to build a 009 gauge layout. All of your locomotives and rolling stock look amazing too. I love all of the scenery you have put onto your layout. In another video would you be able to show your full layout? Keep up the great work :D
@@Treehat thank you for your kind comments, glad you like the layout.
That is a brilliant little layout, nicely done 👏🏻
Thanks for your kind comments, glad you like the layout.
Beautiful.
Thank you 😀
What size houses would go with this N guage buildings or HO guage and same with figures and cars?
@@davidsheriff8989 it’s a OO9 gauge layout so utilises the same 1/76 scale houses, vehicles and people as a OO gauge layout. I believe that HO gauge is 1/87 scale. N gauge is 1/148 scale.
@@Gwenen-009 THanks for this info...that is really helpful...
Absolutely wonderful, what time and patience went into constructing this..
@@davidsheriff8989 thanks for your kind comments, glad you like the layout.
What a lovely layout ,first class quality smooth running ,yes I,am envious .Well done .😊

Fantastic Layout, great Sound. You made the small world with much love. Very nice!
Thanks for your kind comments, glad you like the layout 😀
Absolutely fantastic You've captured the purpose of narrow gauge perfectly, I'm guessing that the second is onboard sound chip, now are you using peco eletrofrog 12" radius points and a final question what size is your baseboard please as I'm just starting out again and ive got ideas but nothing fixed plan wise 😊😢
Thanks for your kind comments, glad you like the layout. The loco is sound-fitted by Bachmann. I have used the Peco 12” radius electrofrog points SL-E491 and 492 throughout. The baseboard is 5 feet by 2 feet 3 inches. Good luck with your layout 😀😀
@Gwenen-009 Thank you for getting back to me. I've got a 4ftx2ft3" board, and hopefully, I'll be able to get something on that
stunning 😍, very nice running session and the double fairlie looks great weathered
Thanks Tom, glad you enjoyed it. I like weathering everything on the layout.
you have a stunning layout there, i had the same issue last year with one of my points luckily i hadn't ballasted the track yet so it wasn't to bad, keep up the good work and i look forward to the next update. Tom
Thanks Tom, glad you like the layout. The problem was a frog juicer which I’ve now replaced.
@@Gwenen-009 glad you got it sorted, the joys of model railways 😂
Some nice shots of your layout there, looking forward to seeing it back up and running... Cheers James 🙂👍
Thanks James, glad you enjoyed the photos 😀
@@Gwenen-009 my grandson really enjoyed seeing them 🙂👍
Its eerie seeing the place deserted as if aliens had abducted everyone except two men sat on benches. Pleased to see you fixed the point problem though and look forward to seeing more running on this beautiful layout in the not too distant future. One question though, what size is the baseboard for this layout?
Thanks Andrew, glad you like it. The layout is roughly 5 feet by 2 feet 3 inches.
Hi
Enjoyed that very much!
Thank you Gary, glad you liked it.
It's sad to hear about the damaged point and I hope you manage to fix it soon but I have to say that this model railway looks beautiful, this has made me want to build my own 009 gauge model railway at somepoint. It's interesting to see the layout of the track. I love this model railway.
Thanks for your kind comments, glad you like the layout. The point had now been fixed and it's all running properly again.
Very nice work! But I'm puzzling about the tracks; those sleepers/ties look very wide across the short side of the tie.
Hi Mark, sorry but I don't understand what you mean about the sleepers. I have used Peco set track and flexible track on the layout but have not modified the track in any way.
@@Gwenen-009 They look kind of wide compared to still photos of Peco track on Peco's website. Maybe it's a video camera side effect; in 'Murica we say "you know the camera adds 10 pounds."
This is becoming addictive! such time, skill, effort and imagination has gone into this layout it’s fantastic can I ask what has gone inside your walls on the incline section to make them look thick and what are your wall tops made from, thanks sorry for all the questions I. Just hoping to some extent I can build something half as nice but it’s my first attempt so any help would be appreciated
Thanks again for your kind comments. I'll try to explain the method, which would be easier if TH-cam allowed photos to be added to comments! The polystyrene inclines have 2mm cork glued on the top and sides, so they are completely covered. Have a look at the video called Testing Some Pointwork to get the idea. I bought a pack of Cork Expansion Strips (for laminate floors etc) which are very flexible. I glued these on top of the cork so they lined up with the cork on the sides. Both sides were then covered with the embossed wall covering. I then put coping stones made from card on the top of the wall. I hope that makes sense, let me know if you need any more help.
Fantastic layout I’ve watched all your videos at lest 4 times now its mesmerising what did you use to build your incline and decline sections please
Thanks for your kind comments, glad you like the layout. I used the Woodland Scenics ST1413 Woodland Scenics 4% x 2' Incline Starter 1" Elevation, ST1408 Woodland Scenics 2" x 2' Long. Riser and ST1407 Woodland Scenics 1" x 2' Long. Riser for my inclines. Hope that helps.
I am beginning my journey in 009 gauge so I’ve seen a lot of layouts on u tube and around the west midlands at exhibitions and I must say I’ve never seen one as nice as yours the layout looks superb can I ask what do you use as walls around your incline track please put more videos up it’s amazing thanks
Thanks, glad you like my layout. I used embossed paper for the walls that I found on eBay. It has the stone texture already on it.
Is there anything between the cork underlay and the polystyrene
The cork is glued directly to the polystyrene apart from under the points.
@Gwenen-009 thank you, currently trying to replicate your track plan as best as I can but have never built up gradients before
@@SamuelMartin-mo5si I used the Woodland Scenics ST1413 Woodland Scenics 4% x 2' Incline Starter 1" Elevation, ST1408 Woodland Scenics 2" x 2' Long. Riser and ST1407 Woodland Scenics 1" x 2' Long. Riser for my inclines. Hope that helps.
What size is your base board
It is roughly 5 feet by 2 feet 3 inches.
