Here’s a quick how to for the n52 clan on gapping piston rings so you can run more boost without breaking a piston ringland like I did twice pushing the limits on how much boost the stock engine can run. So here’s the raw dirty how to hope u like it…. Or don’t views are views 😂 I’m jk hope this helps some people out.

@@justin4588 don’t worry I’ve rebuilt this motor already with new internals and gapped piston rings to run more boost
Hey man, I enjoy your contet, I have n52b25 engine, is it possible to boost this engine?
@@AmirUniqueTuni 100% yes it’s exactly the same if you look at a n52b30 and an n52b25 you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference if it wasent in the car it will just make a bit less power then the n52b30 but the process and what you need is exactly the same down to the last bolt. if you follow my other videos on how to boost and what u need the process is the same and Itill get u boosted 👍
@@AmirUniqueTuni I would recommend pulling a clutch and flywheel from an n52b30 or any awd variant will have a 240mm pressure plate and clutch disk this is a big upgrade for the n52b25 rwd cars just fyi
@@rumrunnersracing Thank you for information, I have zf6hp automatic gearbox, flash tuned with xhp, will it work when I boost engine? Also where did you buy turbo kit for your engine? What is the reliability after the turbo installation because this is my daily car, just wanna know. 😃
Auto will handle the boost fine just keep it 7-10psi and the engine will love it. My turbo “kit” was pieced together mostly from Amazon and from eBay. The turbo is from Amazon it’s a gt35 the exhaust manifold was made in house by a friend of mine and my ecu is a custom standalone made in house by another friend of mine lol. It will be on the market to buy spring 2025 we’re just boosting an automatic car to work out the functions for auto cars and the awd cars so you can electronically switch from awd to rwd whenever you want. But you can keep it cheap and flash tune your stock ecu and just modify your manifold and put a flange on if you weld. The engine is reliable if you do your daily maintenance and don’t go over 10psi or you will need to open the engine and gap piston rings. Any other questions u have during the process u can post here I reply to all of the comments on my videos good luck 👍
super excited to see how this keeps on progressing, love the content! have an e90 325i and always love to see people pushing the limits on the n52
@@yyskrta thanks I appreciate the positive feedback 👍 this new setup should hit the dyno sometime after Christmas holidays.
Thanks for posting mate... Just had my supercharger bracket delivered for my n52, really interesting to see these failure modes, and its not just wrist pins being the weak point. Are you doing anything on your top end?
@@evensisftw top end is all stock besides having fully tunable valvetronic settings as well as boost with my one of one standalone made by popformance other then that stock head studs stock valves and springs. The weak point isint wrist pins or even pistons it’s piston rings when they touch Itill blow out the wrist pin because Itill bind in the cylinder the stock gap in these cars is super tight that’s how I went through 2 motors prior all same issue to much boost piston rings touch each other and part of the piston decides to go swimming in the oil pan. If you boost more then 11psi u gotta gap the rings at the very least I went a bit farther and put in low compression pistons as well so I can run 18-20psi own the new setup it’s just waiting for good weather to hit the dyno.
@@rumrunnersracing Makes a ton of sense mate, nice one for that. Yeah no plans to go beyond 10 pounds lol, will definately want to get that bottom end done looking at this as won't be long till get used to the power :D Looking forward to your dyno results!!!

What are you using to tune the computer
@@titorivas5623 the computer is a standalone that runs the car by itself and keeps valvetronic and boost so it’s a one of a kind until more get made in the spring right now it’s a one of a kind from popformance my buddy is getting into making ecus he made some for a few Nissan skylines and 300zx and now for the n52 it’s completely plug and play to replace the factory ecu it should be on the market spring 2025 so far it’s been amazing just working out the software for the automatic cars and a few other things then it will be ready for public purchase
What are you using to tune the car
@@titorivas5623 it uses a custom built standalone designed for the n52 to control valvetronic and boost made by my buddy at popformance we’re working on the features for the automatic cars and updating the software before it gets released to the public should be available sometime in spring 2025 you can inquire about getting a pre order at www.popformance.com
Yep u need a spoiler cuz it’s going so fast you need downforce right ?
@@anonymoustruthaboutworldsp938 you only really feel it stabilize over 150ish kmh but from 150-220 you would be surprised I took the wing off thinking less drag but it is actually a lot less stable at high speeds so I dunno if u were being sarcastic but rwd cars do benefit from some downforce for stability and to put pressure on the rear wheels for grip to not spin when slamming gears on a no prep drag strip but not when city driving so long story short yes the car goes fast the wing helps stabilize the car 🧐…. 😆
I’m new to the bmw scene and I was wondering if low compression is good ?
@@betolopez1021 it’s only good for turbo cars if you have a non turbo car they run higher compression to make more power. Turbo cars have air compressed and pumped into the engine so they have more pressure in the cylinders so they run lower compression ratios to gain timing and be able to run more boost safer. High compression + high boost= blown motor. Also the piston rings need to run a bigger gap then n/a cars as well so the rings can expand more due to increased heat and cylinder pressure. Hope that helps if There’s anything u want me to elaborate on just ask I don’t mind passing down knowledge to the bmw fam 😎 👍
What are you using to tune it whay software
@@titorivas5623 my car uses a custom standalone that runs everything it was made by my tuner at popformance it works with the tuner studio software. It’s a prototype I’ve been running for the last year it should be available to buy by next spring we’re just doing some updates on the valveteonic coding. This is the only car that uses full valvetronic control on a standalone it’s pretty sweet like having a tunable camshaft. This car is scheduled to hit the dyno after Christmas.
It’s cool seeing stuff happen on this platform, I still will recommend riding in a fbo n54 or atleast try owning one, don’t get one w less that 130k miles so everything’s already been done
@@lateatnight8323 I’ve already had an n54 fbo Theyr great but maintenance and parts if anything breaks are expensive af and I’ve got 3 kids so I can’t even afford a set of injectors or the walnut blasting upkeep for the n54 😆 but the n52 is all over my local scrap yards so I work with what I got and play with what I can get my hands on cheap and when things go on these n52 cars ppl just give them away for real cheap Theyr the new e46 I think
@ I’m glad you’ve seen both sides and can honestly speak on both, plenty of people bitch and cry about the n54 being “junk” but haven’t had one
@ yea I don’t hate the n54 at all if parts were cheaper and maintenance on their direct injection you can’t beat the n54 it’s the German 2jz just a single turbo and it’s ready to go and the jb4 tuner is sick af my tuner and I are developing a standalone for the n52 that’s y I’m so overly invested it will be the first n52 to have tunable valvetronic tables as well as using boost its pretty sweet It should really help the n52 guys looking for that n54 power on the n52 budget 😆

Putting all that extra leverage on your shift knob is a great way to break your synchros
@@josephchewning919 not really if you know how to drive a manual 🤷♂️ but I see what your getting at
@ lol if I go through a set of gear from bottom to top I can learn the ratios and rev match all the way back down first time. I also dont slam my gears through the synchronizers, I let the synchros do the work.
And if I break any synchros I’ll let u know first 😜 👍 but so far nothing I know where this car likes the shifts I’ve got no worries for the trans rods is my main concern going forward shooting for 600+whp on a drift setup if u saw my videos u would see this is an old shifter setup and motor setup but either way I know my car like every driver does I just don’t like reaching so far from a short shift to the hydro e brake and back I like when they’d more equal length and the hydro needs the leverage it’s more of a personal preference but to each his own if ur feelin ur setup over mine I don’t mind I’m just glad ur driving manual 😎 👍 keep manuals alive. What do u drive?
Just bought a gt35 for mine! Where did you get your exhaust manifold from if you don’t mind me asking?
I had my buddy just weld one up for me it’s not to hard there’s a few designs you can make a few v band clamps and some pipe bends and you could have one ready to go. I don’t think the ones Theyr selling online are worth the price you can buy the pipe and the welder to make one yourself for the prices I’ve seen online it’s just a bit of time getting the placement right.
It's a better flowing cylinder head than n54 too because it has more space in the combustion chamber for bigger valves since no direct injector are in the way
@@Alfonso-mh1np yea she flows good I just swapped to lower compression pistons and opened the ring gap I’m going to go for more then 14psi I wanna go for 18-20psi. The cars together and running I just gotta do a slow break in with the engine then it goes to the dyno.
@@rumrunnersracing what pistons did you use? n51?
@ in this video those are stock n52 pistons and all stock internals 145k on the engine. In the new build I just used 9:3:1 compression pistons I got on eBay and opened the stock ring gap but the car dosent hit the dyno for a bit with the new setup the car is scheduled for a full retune in the dyno sometime after Christmas.

@@pistolpaulie4871 I never looked it up it’s more just tight is tight type deal u don’t gotta go to hard as long as u feel the rubber squish down ur good just go over all of them once at the end to make sure u didn’t skip tightening any and ur good to go 👍
how many miles on the motor?
@@007-K2 this motor was 152k on it and I blew piston number 6 from boost creeping to 16psi to many times. So if you check the page u can see my rebuild with lower compression pistons and how I gapped the piston rings for higher boost the new goal is 18-20psi with the new low compression pistons but stock you could run 7psi for years and have no issues it’s when you get 12psi and above you see what parts don’t like boost 😆
@ so If I took time out to save up and rebuild the motor with lower compression with 12psi as a goal, would you be able to daily that?
@ 100% just gap the piston rings as well debatably you could run 12psi daily with just gapping the piston rings to handle the boost that’s what the biggest issue to running boost in n/a cars run a tight ring gap turbo cars run a bigger gap so the rings can expand with the added heat and pressure in the cylinder so low compression pistons and gapping rings could be overkill if you don’t plan on abusing the car at the track like I do.
How did u spent?
@@mauriziobossoli5200 it depends how much power you want to make I went overkill on fueling and engine management but you could toss a setup together for a few grand if you can make your own exhaust manifold and source some cheaper bigger injectors and aftermarket fuel pump

Also fun fact about n52 cooling it’s entirely controlled by the standalone I have so the stock radiator is fine because when my standalone sees the car drifting hitting the limiter it just opens the thermostat max and keeps the car in the mid 80’s the tech in these cars is pretty sweet. I did put a massive intercooler in there tho to keep the iat’s cool

Yea to be honest man if I was where u are had a chassis with no motor ide do 5.3l ls they love boost and can make cheap reliable power. I plan on buying another e90 shell and doing another series going the ls route but same style I always do scrap yard parts and a ton of diy 😆. There’s lots of ppl making kits out there but none ide buy most are incomplete because ppl just want 7psi and call it a day so they don’t have rising stuff like rate fuel pressure regulators they don’t gap piston rings and the one that gets me is they boost there cars and no cool thrashing videos of e90’s sending it. My car gets driven like it’s stolen 😆 I just gotta get more videos to show ppl how sick these cars can be. But next is 5.3ls.

That sucks man i hope u get your frs fixed I was in that boat I ended up buying another e90 with a bad oil pan leak i got dirt cheap just to daily because the r&d on this car actually took years I’ve been at this 3 years now changing the setup adding things overcoming issues for more power gains and I hardly got drive time out of it but was constantly working on it. @@rumrunnersracing OK I’ll go off base with the recommendation that you gave me cause I’m trying to aim for at least 19 psi if possibility, but you’re already doing all the things ahead of me what I’m doing because I’m already rebuilding my engine as well with the n52 that already has 150 K mileage I’m learning from you because halfway through I’m already buying all the parts to throw a turbo on it
Glad I could help pave the way but I would start lower boost and work your way up I would thrash it at 10-12psi work out the kinks of the build if there is any then work your way up. Also tuning is key when running high boost you will not be able to rely on any remote tunes or anything you get online you will want real time tuning or the motor will just blow the head off. That being said the one thing I didn’t address is how strong stock head studs are will they be able to handle 18-20psi I’m not sure 🤔 but to help the situation I will be adding water methanol injection to keep intake temps down that’s another crucial part of the setup hot intake temps and high boost will also blow the engine. What is your plan for tuning?
@@rumrunnersracing my plan was going to Stage FP for tuning for turbo. I also was looking into 22 RPD which I heard from both parties they are good but as you said, I think remote tuning is not as good for turbo because yeah you might end up blowing a head gasket so what I’m going to do is an ECU exchange or buy an AEM ECU for a piggyback just in case or just ship my car all the way out there lol but I heard stories about they’re tuning capabilities with turbo and superchargers and they are pretty good and as well as 22 RPD, but yeah as you said, let me start off low first start before I go high
