The extremely short-sighted decision way back in the 1800s to draw the St. Louis City line - that was never to be moved - was what doomed STL to forever have that city-county separation.

Being born and raised here, i believe biggest challenge newcomers face will be economic and racial division. You can virtually see just crossing from North/South where economic wealth is situated. And racial lines too. If you time travel back 1940s-early 1960s It would been physically dangerous for certain people enter certain areas St Louis proper

And you suck. We St. Louis and suggest you go back to the hole you crawled out of. Why don’t you talk about the expansion of all the ethnic restaurants in St. Louis in St. Louis County? Talk about our free world class zoo or Shaws Garden or the art museum I could go on and on. Let’s talk about the Italian Hill. Let’s talk about other cities that have gone downhill even more so than St. Louis. You can tell I’m a damn proud resident of St. Louis County but I do enjoy what the city has to offer. I also think that many of the issues you bring up are not any different than they are in any other city, but you seem to want to make out that these are bad traits. You sure as heck wouldn’t get any of my business

I have to give you a down vote because you never mentioned the topic everyone really wants to know… Which is, where are the high crime areas. How can you cover St. Louis, with one of the highest crime rates in the nation, and not give people an understanding of where that crime tends to be?

    • @LivingStLouis

Hi, this video is strictly to give a lay of the land and discuss differences between areas.. I discuss safety in other videos at a broad level and advise people to do their own research, as there are strict fair housing laws that regulate what I can and cannot say when it comes to safety.

Some of the worst clients as a mover were moving to Ladue. One woman ran out bare foot cursing and insulting us for taking too long walking her daughter's furniture across a lot, down a ramp and across a lot in this apartment complex in brentwood. I had the older guy down until she surprised us with $100 each for a tip. Otherwise, ladue and clayton were the most stingy tipeprs with the hardest jobs. A lot of the white guys made sure to use those areas as reason that working white people get treated as badly as white people. I feelnfor whoever moved my former scumbag resident physician in her place. However, was this job I was requested to helo finish in the afternoon after already doing most of the work for like 8 and a half hours because the other two were constantly bickering. There was a lot of it over race. When I got to the site the other two had to go back to the pick. They frank booze mixing it with stuff like apple juice and soda. They smoked dope. I was already annoyed. At the pick uo I had to preasure them to put some energry into it. They were dragging along so much ot was draining me. These two were really tall and muscular. The driver was usually cool to me, the other was an ex-con that should go back to prison since he obviously preferred it. I scared him a couole of times. He claimed he thought I was deaf, dumb and mute. I got that a lot in my teens and twenties. It upset him that I was brighter and thought he should jump out the mover truck. Once we got to the drop off in ladue at the ultra huge house it was heart breaking. They couple seemed to had something to drink and smoke as well. Th woman kept flirting with the two mpvers expressing since they are so big and dark their privates must be huge. They had at least two pre teen looking girls watching and enjoying it like her husband. They were supposedly into adbertisment. The driver started showing off carrying a couple of couches with one arm. They kept the nasty talk up all night. They were even listening to rap like tupac and stuff. The first two claimed we did not get tips. I left them while the bill was being paid. Yet this other mover we finished around midnight this lady paid them $100 and in a nasty way gave me $40 making it plain that not only I didn't not deserve but imploed I wasn't black enough despite her and her family are white. Hopefully they lady passed away by now.

If you're needing or wanting more information, the owner of that channel is possibly the best person to contact about it. You may have already known, seems like you already been looking into it, but wanted to make sure I provided that little bit of info incase you have not. As someone that grew up and lived in Florissant and a kid that rode his bike all over North County, it is pretty much a ghetto now. Ugly blacktop over once beautiful concrete. What is left of concrete has repairs made with tar, assuming they repaired them at all. Animal Control is gone, North County Health Department if they answer their phone at all is unhelpful, they do not get rid of snakes anymore. Lindbergh is a mess. Business on top of business all jammed up on each other and traffic during "rush" hours is pretty much a standstill. If you live IN Florissant, it takes you a good 10 minutes or more to get OUT of Florissant. Saying the airport is 5 minutes away is very misleading. And you won't just hear planes, you will hear sonic booms of the Air Force jets. So if you sleep in the day time, you won't be happy. I don't know why they don't go to the air force where they belong, they're always at Lambert, and sometimes, seems like they're intentionally buzzing the roof. Maybe by sheer coincidence, I have tweeted them to please stop and 6 times out o 6 tweets, it did stop after the tweet posted. Florissant is a GREAT place for you and your pets to get the cancer, thanks to Mallinckrodt poisoning Coldwater Creek with nuclear waste radiation. But you don't have to take MY word for it. Just ask my deceased Mother and my 3 dogs that all died of the cancer, and me, sick with the cancer, waiting to die, as I exist in excruciating pain. If you find ANY home over $200,000.00 in Florissant, you're being ripped off. NO HOME, in a ghetto town is worth that much, I don't care how nice it looks. If you pay more than $200,000.00 it is a rip off ! Someone is absolutely OUT of their mind paying more for a home, but then again, the banks own the majority of the homes in Florissant, and those banks rather contribute to homelessness than help you stay in your home. Whatever you do, don't bring it up at a town hall meeting, the police will beat the hell out of you. There was a video on The You Tubes. It has since been removed. Also, if you like nice things, don't put them in your basement. The sewers do backup during a hard rain, and MSD will disclaim responsibility, make excuses, and never repay you for a problem THEY caused. Also, your money won't go far in Florissant. A friend went to Mc. Donalds 20 something dollars for a sandwich and fries. Ridiculous ! So give your money to the nicer, family owned restaurants. Your dollar won't go further but it will be helping out someone that is NOT a corporation.

Fair review. Lets also include: top 10 most racially segregated city in the United States, the state overall ranks in the '40s on multiple key indices (Jefferson City has been controlled by a MAGA'esque super majority for over two decades), most of our Fortune 1000 businesses left or merged into something else, and extremely high crime per capita. Missouri overall is a loser flyover state and I'm embarrassed ever say I am from here. Don't move here.

STL is no different from other cities that suffered from White Flight: The $$$ that would make it better, left. People blaming politicians is just hilarious. There used to be local grocers within walking distance, pubs and hardware and furniture stores, and reliable transit. All of that was deleted when suburbs and living in road traffic became preferred. And those suburbs similarly became left behind when people discovered farm land in St. Charles County could have suburbs. And those suburbs will also be left behind once Hannibal or whatever becomes the new hot spot. Never improve, never be efficient, just buy the next lot because land is infinate.

Excellent channel! I would love to hear your thoughts on the Crescent area next to Eureka. Off Lewis Road. Very unique enclave!

They are making this because it’s too dangerous in the city so nobody goes out there. I went to downtown STL on a Friday night and it was like a ghost town at 11pm. Only major city I’ve ever been to that I’ve seen that

Adding on to the culture point, we have a great energy. There have been multiple bands like Breaking Benjamin and Korn that say St.Louis is there favorite city to play in due to how lovely we can be. Which compared to concerts I went to in Chicago and Colorado I say is a fair assessment. As someone who is a nerd there are also a lot of cheap game stores and fun movie bars which helps you meet other people in the community. (Shout out to Bodachs, Tater Tots, and Arkadin!)

Lots to develop in the Lou, all that’s green will be sub-greenery. Only debate is car dependency, iRobot automation of transport, walkability , public transport in general.

I've lived in St. Louis my entire life. I've had a guy randomly attack me outside a Steak N Shake and almost kill my friend. I've had situations where homeless people wont leave you alone unless you give them money in areas where you're supposed to be able to go out like Cherokee St, The Grove, or Washington Ave. I've had homeless people run, yes run, from 2-3 blocks away to try and panhandle me for money while out. You have to take you and your woman and hurry inside somewhere to escape. I've had my car blocked into a parking lot in Soulard (again supposed to be a nicer area) by a group of random people while a moronic worker at a bar got attacked by one of them. Had to convince a friend to leave. I've also had to get rid of friends for random acts of violence towards people. If you're from out of town and you're thinking of St. Louis, ABSOLUTELY do NOT live in downtown St. Louis. There is not a St. Louisan you will meet with a decent paying job that would influence you to do that. You need to live around 15 minutes, or more, outside. All these "St Louis is great" videos are from people not from here.
