I lived in the Mansion House building on 4th street for a while. The worst part was having to navigate a parking garage every time you want to leave. It was cool being able to walk to BP village. At 25 it was fine. At 31, I wouldn’t want to do it again lol
Great video! We sold our home in the county and bought a loft on Washington Avenue in 2019. Turned out to be a great decision. Low maintenance, amazing community, entertaining… we either get our groceries when we get the car out maybe once a week or we use Instacart.
Hey there thanks for watching!! I'm so glad you guys love the loft. Really good point about grocery delivery -- smart choice! Is there anything else I forgot to mention in this video that would be important to know before moving to the Downtown area in a loft?
@@LivingStLouis someone mentioned HOA fees based on square footage, true, but you don’t want them to be unusually low. If the building is owners, tenants, or both. Indoor trash services or outdoor. See the specific parking space and/or storage space. If the building has a well functioning board of directors. Multiple elevators no matter what size the building. Any upcoming special assessments. Age of the roof…
@@ThisLoftLife such good points! 100% to the board of directors and the financials of the building too. Sometimes we’ve had mortgage issues when the buildings are too far in debt. The garbage collection is a great one I completely forgot about
Great video. And regarding groceries for anyone in such an urban neighborhood, remember that Walmart+ delivery is available. Particularly helpful for anyone, but especially those without a vehicle. Thanks for the info 😊
You've made some good points. One thing that I'm not sure if you've mentioned is that the more and the better amenities included also tends to lead to higher monthly HOA fees. I've seen some at several hundred to over $1K a Month. That might price some people out of a condo. A couple buildings I like to check out occasionally to see their available condos are the Marquette Building and the Blu City Spaces buildings. They're in different parts of downtown, and they both have different aspects that might draw me to want to live there. The CWE and Debaliver neighborhoods also have attractive condo listings to me.
Yes that's a really good point! The reason I didn't get too into specifics with HOA fees is that they vary so much, even within the same building. For example a 1-bed unit in a building with a lot of amenities might cost $300 a month in condo fees while a 3-bed unit in the same building might have an HOA fee of $1,100 a month
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I am hearing rumors about the current paid for parking in front of ballpark Village being converted into a second or third cardinal way. Additionally, the rumor is a grocery store being put in the bottom of one of them
Jacob, I think it would have been a good idea to mention the streets that bound downtown: Tucker Blvd. to the West, Wash Ave. to the North, Third Street to the East and Clark Ave. to the South. Also I did a quick Google check and there don't appear to be any schools located in the immediate downtown area. There is one listed on South Kingshighway and another on McPherson but those are not downtown. To me downtown is the business district and where City Hall is located. Hope this info helps.
As documented by Google and the city, Cole street in the north (with some others when you cross the interstate) and Chouteau to the south are the N/S streets that make downtown. If it were Wash Ave then you would be cutting off the North half of the street and convention center and if it were Clark you would be excluding half of the Cardinals propoerty IE the stadium. It isn't downtown but Confluence Prep is at Olive and 14th. Not SLPS but it is an option.
Thank you! The discussion of actual boundaries is a good point for me to add - especially when distinguishing downtown vs downtown west. Schools are another great topic I’ll include in the next downtown video!
St louis native for 25 years. Dont move here, this city is the slowest dying city in america in my opinion, many have tried to fix the infrastructure but at this point with the state of the economics and culture, its never going to happen. Its a wildly dangerous city even in the burbs and the "good parts" in the city are surrounded entirely by dilapidated neighborhoods that most developers know arent even worth gentrifying at this point. Love my city and wish we had govt power to enforce change but idk theres potholes older than me here so its not looking good.
I understand it's a promo video for realtors, but downtown St. Louis sucks nowadays, there is nothing up there. City can't fix crime issue, no much people on day time and neither late night. We have one Schnucks store in the middle of downtown, no interesting places for daily life. Anyone who consider moving to STL such suggest Mid Town, Mapplewood are Grove or South Grand :)
@drewmantia not racist if it is 100% true. The crime demographic is STL is quite one sided and it isn't coming from the lighter skin peeps. Just saying.....

Love your videos! STL is on our short list to consider relocating to in a few years. Your videos keep us up to date. 👍
I’m so glad to hear that!! Thanks for watching my content ☺️

Im coming in late October to go to the Chess Hall of fame. Im excited!
That’ll be so fun!!! That’s in central west end - very cool neighborhood to check out!
These are very old and large buildings that often need a lot of large scale repairs. I would consider that so talk to the HOA before buying
Very good point. Also consider the building’s financials because some condo buildings are massively in debt!

@@LivingStLouis Definitely. The square footage comes into play what you end up paying in HOA's.

Is around 9th street and pine st a good place to live? It’s got grocery store, bank, and public transit nearby.
Obnoxious, drunk tourists OR people who live in the County...😂😂😂 You NAILED IT!😂
Hahaha! Speaking stereotypically that seems to be the 2 groups you see partying it up 😂

Is $65k good or average for a 1 bedroom downtown?
What is the name of the building at 4:10? It was a beautiful apartment!
That's a clip of unit #1607 in the Syndicate building! 915 Olive Street
All the videos i watch downtown looks deserted are there still any people living downtown

Laclede's Landing
If you like to exercise your neck since it will constantly “be on a swivel” move downtown.

Valid points! Those are other great neighborhoods to consider!
Don’t.
I agree... I prefer living in a less diverse place ... I prefer a more homogeneous community with little to no crime
yikes! don't agree with me if you're gonna be weird and racist about it

lol, it’s not racist 😂 Black people are the worst all over the world. It’s one of the most ubiquitously known things on the planet.
First tip to living in downtown is dont do it.
Well to each their own right?
