Using navigation to try to avoid all the traffic, Waze ended up sending us on quite the adventure! Unfortunately, the minivan that was trying to take the same route ended up having to turn around.

    I used to take my old '08 2 door Jeep out there quite often when I lived in LA. Thanks for sharing the trail! Brings back some great memories! I always went up the front side and down the back side. I got my front end over that ledge going down, but backed out of it. Didn't seem worth the risk. When I attempted it, it was super skinny, and had to hit it at an angle. Ended up on 2 wheels teetering. I always rode solo, no lockers, in a stock 2 door X with little 31" AT tires. If I flipped I would have been screwed.

    • @4x4campingcorps
      @4x4campingcorps 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I love hearing that! We love that trail too, and have gone multiple times, it’s a great way to get outside of LA and feel like you’re in a completely different area, yet it’s only an hour away. I hear ya about not taking big risks when wheeling solo…it’s not worth breaking something or rolling your rig. The videos never do the trails justice, those hills are steep!!!!

      @@4x4campingcorps I watched y'alls Cleghorn Ridge video. I went up there with some people from work. That place got pretty hairy near the end. Cleghorn has some serious sections! Just a few months ago there was a serious rollover that they called in a helicopter to airlift the driver to a trauma center! The trail systems of Southern California are incredible though with how close to the city they are and with such a wide variety of skill levels. There really is something for everyone. As long as they know their limits and stay safe!

Though I didn’t have any luck fishing there, I saw other fisherman catching huge largemouths (6+ lbs) and catfish (40+ lbs) right from the shore. They were catching the cats in the main body of water by casting off the beach with bait and leaving their lines in the water until they caught something, and the bass at the mouths of the inlets using mostly lures. There were fish all over the place. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

    Keep blasting through puddles and eventually you're gonna ingest water into the intake and hydrolock your ride.

    • @4x4campingcorps
      @4x4campingcorps 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s actually something I’ve witnessed and the “chocolate milk” in the oil pan is not pretty. I have to say though, the placement of the intake on most Jeeps was actually designed with water fording in mind which makes it more difficult for a driver to ingest the amount of water necessary to hydrolock the engine. This is why you see so many videos of jeeps making huge splashes and coming out unscathed. It is always something a responsible driver has to keep in mind though. 👍🏼

The full hook up sites near the Nature Center is under major construction, so the only hook up site for a group is near Apache loop. As a fellow 3.8 owner I feel the pain of cooling issues. Nice to have a DC fan vs brushless of newer JKs I recently used the AEV 3.6 brushless fan swap on mine & it is a great modification. The high speed relay on the 3.8 over heats. It is behind the headlight…

The liftt is incredible with the true 4 link in the back with no track bar but the shocks are way too soft for my taste for daily driving. A lot of body roll when you hit a bump or going over a speed bump but off road they do amazing. The rear end just feels too loose. I have a set of falcons on the way and can't wait to see the difference.

    Was the height gain really 2.5"? I've read on the forums its closer to 4" of lift.

      I read the same thing but I think mine was closer to 3” or 3 1/2”.

      @@4x4campingcorps Gotcha! Well since i got the Sport S ill get closer to 4-4 1/2" since the lift kits are developed around Rubi. Did the lift kit sag over time or still keeps the same height?

      @@blueskiesflyer Oh, you’ll absolutely get some extra height with the lighter trim! If there was any settling in the lift it wasn’t enough to notice. It’s still a great kit in my opinion.

    You legit look as if Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg had a kid.

      I’ve been told I look like a Whalberg ever since high school and Matt Damon a few times but never a mix of both! That’s funny!

      That's the only reason. I decided to listen to the video to see if he's talking about my problem on my jeep. Lol I'm like Mark making a video about his jeep!

    In 1971 my entire family and I went on a family road trip/ vacation. We lived in LA. We were heading to the coast of Oregon. We drove highway 1 along the coast. Eventually we got to Northern California and needed to take I5 so we headed east from the Coast. We ended up camping at Clearlake state park in Kelseyville. Here’s the odd thing In 2001 I ended up buying a 5 acre ranch in Kelseyville not knowing that when I was 6 years old I camped less than 4 miles from the house I bought decades later

      It’s funny how things come full circle like that! We really enjoyed our trip there and want to go back…people were catching 40lb catfish and 5lb bass right off the beach (of course we caught nothing!) When we drove home (south all the way to LA), we were in thick smoke the whole way due to the fires. It was hard to see and smelled terrible…the smoke finally broke when we went over the grapevine and dropped back into LA valley, but was with us the entire way before that. I couldn’t believe how smokey it was; a trip we will never forget!
