Ford Cologne 2.3 V6 engine after refresh - ex Granada
Something different for me this time - Ford Cologne 2.3 V6 engine that started life in a Ford Granada (I think) YYP engine code.
Found this in a sorry state due to being laid up for a while so decided to give it a refresh and replace what was needed inside.
Turned out to be very little internal wear and just a couple of sticky rings. So with a couple of new rings, all gaskets and seals and a new oil pump (of course!) it was transformed in this. Topped it off with a Weber 38DGAS, because I had it, and now running nicely.

First conversion of the new year! Using a Holley 600cfm again on a later manifold. Engine hadn't started for a few months causing the puff of crankcase fumes at the end! This is yet another Holley with part or all of the choke mechanism missing (removed by previous owner). Somewhere there is a large hoard of choke parts.............

I love people who do their own thing , and best of luck to you , but only because ive worked on many V8s of this engine family and the GM 3800 V6 that came from this engine by cutting 2 cylinders off , my question is " why oh why did you cut off those excellent SU or Skinner Union carbies off ?" They are the best carbie to ever be made ! Almost all carbies tell the engine how much fuel goes in and wait for the engine to catch up , where as the Skinner Union type carbies, you can smash the throttle but as its governed by intake vacuum it only lets the engine get as much air flow as it can use ! Very good design and only out done by efi. Second you could have bought an Offenhauser intake from Summit Racing to do the exact same thing , and many other combos for the Small Block Buick 215ci , 300ci and 340ci including all the Rover 3.5 litre , 3.9, 4.2 and 4.6. all share the same intake manafold type and port location .

@@kennyh5083 The 215 was a joint Buick/Oldsmobile design. The Rover version was much closer to the Buick design than the Oldsmobile one, using the same heads and block as the Buick. Even though GM sold the aluminum engine design to Rover, the subsequent small block iron Buick V8s manufactured by Buick through the 1980 model year in 300, 340, and 350 cubic inch displacements shared the same basic block, including the 4.24" bore spacing, as the Buick 215 V8. Hi, my videos are to show the conversions that I make.....form a Weber 2 barrel to a dual carb setup to a Holley 600 double pumper fed supercharged setup. The engine shown is just my testbed - it is modified with a Viper cam, Vitesse heads and High Compression and has always run really well with all of them. This manifold will also fit some of the larger capacity Rover V8 engines as well as the 3.5. I have run a 600 on a 3.5 with no problems....as it has vacuum secondaries it only pulled on them when the engine could use it.

Hi, I made an adapter plate to take the two Weber set up first and then welded it to a cut down standard SU rover manifold. I would expect this to be easily done using the same method and opening up an aluminium 4 barrel manifold for the 318. Vintage speed make an adapter that bolts to a 4 barrel manifold to take 2 twin chokes....this may be an easier option to modify. @@fitduster9472 I like Holley carbs. I am trying to stick to the Mission Impossible rules, though those that Uncle Tony invited to join had their own ideas which is why this project never got off the ground. The TBI two barrel in the video has great flow chracteristics. I like the idea of a Weber carb or carbs because of the tunability. The whole ideas was to make as much power with what you had on hand: stock manifold of choice, oem heads, no Magnum series parts. So, the cam would be a stock flat tappet or a roller regrind. The idea of doing this with two Weber 38/38 appeals to me. There are some oem cast iron four barrel intakes that flow as much as an Edelbrock or Holley intake. The key is to put in the time and use oem parts. The carb would be the exception

Hi, have you checked for any vacuum leaks or wear on the throttle shafts of the carb? The 390 seems a bit small (to me) for the 4.6 (280 cu. in.) maybe a 600 may work better or an increase in the jetting on the 390. Have you checked the idle mixture for tickover?

Hello there! I appreciate this video was made a few years ago but were did you get the two filters for the breathers on the rocker covers. I have the Edelbrock carb an Oppenhauser intake manifold fitted on my V8.

HI, you could try Real Steel - I think they still do the stroker kits.
