How is Saranda treating gay couples?
Good question, that I'm not really able to answer. We didn't have any issues in our month there, but we weren't really in any situations where it would have been an issue. Any of the expats we hung out with didn't care (we met other gay travelers as well.) Our Airbnb didn't ask any questions or interact with us at all. Just a non-issue for a 30 day stay.
Leaving Wednesday!! I am so excited. And this series has helped me prepare so much!! Thank you for doing it!!
How exciting! We hesitate saying the standard "Have a great time!", because the Camino is so different from normal vacations, and the experiences are different for everyone. But, we did have a great time, and I hope you do too. 😄 Buen Camino!!
Ooh, now I want a Spanish tortilla de patata. I like my Merrell Moab hiking shoe. THEY'RE THE BEST AND I'LL GO TO MY GRAVE OVER THAT! 😅😂
If it works for you then it is the best! 😆 And the tortilla is amazing...as long as you don't eat it too often. We didn't overdo it so we always enjoyed it.
Thanks. Very helpful. Love the recommendations and opinions.
We're glad it is helpful! 😀
Love all this information and what you like or not! What backpack do you use? I think you mention this at the beginning of your coming, but I cannot remember?
We were using cheap backpacks we'd gotten on Amazon just to travel with. We had been using them for a while and they were working fine, but we realized that for the Camino where you are wearing them for so long every day, they really were too small for our frames so while they were decent packs, they just didn't fit us properly. In any case they are no longer available. I would recommend going with a good brand like Osprey and getting fit for it at a store like REI where they can help you get one that fits your body for best results.
Gracias 🙏
Great video as usual. My husband and I have been watching you guys for a long time, we are also nomad travelers and hope to do the Camino some day. 1. I cannot believe you (Robb) are being so positive in spite of your blisters. That is just unbelievable. 2. The toilet paper deal bugs the hell out of me. Being a woman I know that many times we go to the bathroom and go behind a tree...which then leads to a lot of toilet paper behind nice places where there should not be toilet paper! What you are describing is probably different as you are on a road. But if any women are reading this.... PLEASE carry a bag to put your used toilet paper and discard appropriately. It may sound gross but it is just your pee and it is the only way. I have done a lot of field work in my life and TP does not go away with the first rain. It just doesn't...Sigh
Thank you for the kind comment! And we agree. I don't blame anyone for needing to pee when they need to pee. But it is so easy to carry some doggy bags and pack your trash out with you. Litter isn't ok just because it is more convenient for you to leave it behind. And yes, the blisters have been a big Camino lesson. They are doing better at the moment though!
I guess I'm just too jaded about humans and trash. I take some comfort that trash is one of the greatest tools of Archaeology. 😆
That made me laugh. But no archeologist wants to find toilet paper! 😆
@tendegreeswarmer as they say, This, Too Will Pass 😆 Anyway, TP is biodegradable.
@@ExploreTayo But apparently there is a never ending number of people leaving more behind. And don't get me started on the potato chip wrappers and coffee cups. Anyway, it is just a rant.
I love the video and seeing the towns you are going through. I want to spend time in those towns but I do not want to walk the cominos. It was fun to see the unicycle bikers, is this the Oklahoma brothers that we had seen earlier on in your videos?
Yes, we kept pace with the unicyclers for longer than we expected. They were working hard! 😄
Thanks guys!
Thanks for watching 😀
Managing different paces is a challenge for us because Avic doesn't like falling too far behind. My natural pace is always faster on hills and usually on flat ground, unless she gets into "NYC mode." 😅 I just walk my pace and stop to wait, a bursty way to walk but I don't like slowing down.
Same with us. Luckily we generally walk the same speed, usually in NYC mode haha. But I was walking a bit slower with my blisters, so when David would get too far ahead, he'd stop and wait.
Great video and very informative. Something else to consider is the cost and effort of getting entry visas for the stopover countries. I survived the arduous process of a visa for India but will not do that again in a hurry. I recently looked at an Indonesian stopover, but the visa was quite expensive, much better to use Thailand, Malaysia or Doha.
Thanks for the comment, this is absolutely true. Some places are very easy, some are not, and of course it depends on where you are coming from. I believe India, Indonesia, and Thailand have all changed their visas in the last few years. So this is an important piece of the puzzle. 👍
This video was super useful for us to clarify our decision to skip at least the downhill part after Cruz de Ferro. We’re not young, and if it happens to be raining or muddy, we’ll break our necks for sure. I checked, and we already have a rest day in Ponferrada-can’t wait to see the castle.
I'm glad you found it helpful! The towns along the way are super cute and worth seeing, but the downhill is no joke. Of all the days we walked, this was definitely the hardest, and we were blessed with clear skies. I can only imagine how miserable it would be in the rain. But I hope you enjoy Ponferrada! We were glad we planned our stop there.
Forgive me, but instead of empathy for Robb’s breath-y pace, I just giggled through it! I’m a bad Mom! ::chuckle:: Way to go Robb! The scenery was awesome!!!
No empathy required, it was a very steep but relatively short section that was that steep. We recorded there on purpose to illustrate the point! 😆😆😆
Routines are really important while traveling in general. It throws my day off whenever they're broken.
We love a good routine, and especially when things are changing so fast we can be a bit deliberate about establishing a routine to help navigate all the change.
The towns and scenery are so nice and interesting. I would want to stay a couple nights in a few of them. Especially the castle one. Thanks for sharing your journey!
It is a tricky thing, trying not to move too fast or too slow. There were definitely towns we passed through that we wanted to stay at, and this walk had quite a few of them!
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the Super Thanks, we really appreciate the support of our channel, it means a lot to us! 😀👍
It’s a little over 6-7 stories tall I think
It is definitely huge! 👍
Funny that I have never had any desire to go to China, Asia etc. but have wanted to see Singapore.
Singapore is unique in Asia. It was my first stop in Asia back in 1997 and I can confirm it is easy and a great place to start!
What are you using to count your steps?
I wear a step counter on my wrist. I'm not brand loyal and just get whatever seems best on Amazon at the time. Currently I have the Xiaomi Mi Band 7 which has been great, I've had it about a year and a half now. I don't use most of the features and turned off the "Always on Display" so I only have to charge it every two weeks or so which has been great. I just checked and they are now up to version 9 and are advertising 21 days of battery life which tempts me to upgrade lol. Here is our amazon link if you want to check it out: amzn.to/3B2eVoy But if you wanted to save a few bucks the 7 is still available as well
This is the info I need! Thanks.
Glad it was helpful! 😀👍
Lovely video. I can relate to taking off your contacts. Since retirement I haven’t really worn them much even though I carry them on my travels. It helps that Mark likes me better in glasses. 😂. That hamburger looked delicious by the way. I continue to appreciate the prices and photos of the rooms and meals. I look so forward to your videos. I feel like I’m with you on the journey. In fact, it’s going to be sad for me when you reach the end.
I usually wear my contacts when I'm out and about, especially if I might need to wear sunglasses, but I usually switch to glasses as soon as I get home. It is just so much more comfortable! And yes, for as long as it takes to walk the Camino, it goes by so dang fast! We're getting close to Sarria and the home stretch!
I’m wondering if you have a spreadsheet for planning purposes I want to figure out how I can cruise hop without all the expenses of flying from one port to another I’ve been looking at the repositioning cruises (I live in Arizona, so not many cruises out of Los Angeles) And I want to take advantage of these 12 +day cruises but once I get off the ship at my first port then I want to hop onto another boat without the huge expense of flying Hope that makes sense and hope you have a great planning tool?
I don't have a spreadsheet for that, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out. Once you find the cruise you want, say from Miami to Barcelona, then you just have to search for cruises from Barcelona. Back to back cruises can be fun too, just stay on the same ship, now that it has repositioned it will start doing Mediterranean cruises (or wherever) and depending on how you book it, you might be able to stay in the same room. We did back to back cruises from Barcelona to Miami and then Miami to Santiago over 30 days, it was excellent. If you wanted to get on a different ship, you might have to stay in your port city (Barcelona in this example) for a few days until the ship you want to take departs, but that is still better than flying. The only thing is this technique will rarely get you back to your home port, since the repositioning generally happens all in one direction and then doesn't go back until the end of the season (though there are exceptions!) Does that make sense?
😂 yeah had a few external locks as well. Apartment looks cool but not sure Id fit in the bathroom 'door'
This remains the most...unique Airbnb we ever stayed in. We still enjoyed the stay overall, but it definitely made us laugh!
Much better!
haha thank you! I think everyone agreed. 😀
Very handsome!
Love the scenery and hearing the stories. Funny, when you talked about the first thing you did when you got to your night rest stop was take off your sun sleeves and the relief you felt? That's how most women feel when they get home and take off their upper undergarments. Just, aahhh! Thanks for sharing. So interesting.
HAHA, I had never thought about that, but if it feels anything similar then I can now say I totally get it. Such relief!! 😆😆😆
Love the picture of David at the saloon as Lucky Luke, so strange and funny!! I was so happy to see your video, I was worried since had not seen anything since last Sunday!!
It was very random, but fun to stumble across. And yes, we had so many videos we were putting some up on Wednesday, but we won't be able to keep up with that pace for much longer. But maybe a few more lol
I’ve watched thousands of camino videos and walked SJ to Leon in May 24 and just wanted to say I absolutely love the way you guys are vlogging your journey, so informative!
Thank you so much, we really appreciate hearing that! ❤
Thanks for my 10 degrees warmer fix! 😊
Thanks for watching, we appreciate it! 😀
Great new discovering your channel. I was trying to look at imaginative ways to get to Europe from the US. We can do economy if the flights aren't super long. Was thinking Iceland etc. Hopefully this will work this way as well. Not sure how I missed finding you till now! We've both worked remotely for two decades so we have a lot more options than most.
Welcome! There probably aren't a ton of options between the US and Europe, since it is mostly ocean, but depending on where you are going in Europe you might find a good deal to London/Paris/Madrid/Frankfurt etc and then move on from there. Iceland is likely the best bet, but I wonder if you'd have any luck with North-Eastern Canada or Greenland? I believe if you fly with Icelandair they will give you a free stopover in Iceland of up to a week, but I haven't done the research on that myself. Good luck with the search! 😀
@@tendegreeswarmer thanks so much! Thanks to this video I did discover the Azores via Toronto at 5.5 hours. Years ago we did Montreal for its nonstop to Rome at 8 hours. My husband and I rewatched and because we're old we put it on the huge screen with AppleTV, so you two are now like... any major film star in our minds eyes. Repositioning cruises interest on our honeymoon we took QE2 from Southampton to Miami and that was a great alternative and we usually travel during shoulder season so that was helpful as well. Looking forward to checking out more content and I've shared to some FB groups.
@@enzosf There are direct flights from Toronto to the Azores? That is very interesting, I will have to file that information away for possible later use. lol. And I would assume there are relatively cheap flights from there to Portugal, and who wouldn't want to spend some more time in Portugal? 🙂 Thank you for the kind comments, we are very glad you are finding this hack useful for your own travels. There are so many ways to make our travels more fun, interesting, and still be affordable!
I choose NCL and always book an aft cabin in The Haven as I enjoy the quiet solitude that private part of the ship affords. I know it may sound daft but the biggest plus for me is the 24-hour dining venue (O’Sheehan’s/The Local). It’s not uncommon for me to be really hungry about 2am and while I can always order room service, I put on a pair of jeans and T-shirt, head downstairs and enjoy a cold beer, chicken wings and an excellent cheeseburger. There may possibly be carrot cake too. The staff then know not to expect me until noon or so as I quickly fall asleep, belly full. 👍
We love O'Sheehan's! So much nicer than the buffet, and like you said, much better hours. 👍
Thank you for visiting , we hope you come back and if you ever want to take Spanish lessons please let us know!
We're booked for March 2025. Being in sunny 20s C in winter instead of Atlantic Canada's icy torment will be heaven
On this channel we definitely do our best to avoid winter as much as possible! lol You will love to Algarve!
so.. yall are straight up GHEY right?
Repositioning, no. Cruise ships going in for 1 month dry dock in Europe, so you get a back to back cruise on the same ship, with a 1 month European vacation in between, YES!
That's one way to do it! 😀
I spent the better part of today watching your entire Camino playlist. What a delight you two are! I have watched A LOT of videos over the years and your channel is one of my favorites. I love the combo of details: Route tips, water & food, and lodging. The time and km. Then I love how you came in 1/2 way with a Camino lesson; the human pilgrim vibe answering so many great questions. You are both amazing souls and I look forward to the rest of the story. My fave video was Defining Success!!! ❤❤👏👏👟👟
Thank you so much, we're so glad you are enjoying the videos! Our plan was to talk about the things we wondered about before we started walking. Very happy you found it to be helpful. And yes, we have more videos coming to complete the series. So much to talk about! 😀
Just found you here! Can’t wait to go back to the beginning ones!
Thanks, I hope you enjoy them! ❤
That’s a great suggestion about the photos of the people you meet. We’ve met so many people on treks over the years and have very few pictures of them. I’ll try to remember to take more pictures now.
I wish we were better at it too. Anytime we've asked people always want one too.
Good move Robert! What a view!
It was totally worth the splurge!! 😀
We loved Jardine del Alma... It's such a cute spot! We have a great picture of Gean at that fountain as well. Also, we can not agree more... take pictures with those you meet! ❤😊
We always loved walking so rarely would stop places unless we needed to. Next time we might take more unnecessary rest breaks just to enjoy the things along the way. 😀
You two have really offered some great advice and opinions about this walk. I would recommend anyone thinking about it to watch all your videos. Such scenery and lovely towns! The fountain with the man statue was great!
Thanks so much! Our cruise videos remain very popular which I think confuses the TH-cam algorithm of who to show our videos to. But hopefully more Pilgrims will find them eventually! And yes the fountain man was a favorite for sure 😀
🙌 Gaudi 🙌
Gotta love Gaudi! 😀
Amazing gay video😂
My wife and I also sleep well on ships. Our favorite cabin location is front of the ship at the top.
Kindred spirits! 👍
We took the industrial route around the airport, it was possibly the worst part of the entire walk!
We keep hearing that, thanks for sharing. So glad we took the river route!
I love that now the prices include the taxes and port fees - the price still isn't the final amount you'll pay, but it gives a more realistic starting price. I'm not a long-term traveler, but am using a TA cruise as an excuse to visit Barcelona for a couple of days, a 3-port Spain/Portugal cruise, and a 1-week resort for the trip to Fla., so it works out as a great deal!
It depends on the line and which country you are looking from, but yes we support all inclusive pricing instead of breaking everything into pieces to make it appear cheaper than it is. Hope you love your cruises, they can (sometimes) be a very affordable way to travel! 😀
Wow, that bridge is spectacular!
It was our favorite! I wonder what things used to look like when it was built?
One car train. Amazing. thank you for all the useful information it has been an amazing resource. The train up to SJPP do they run pretty often? I am coming from Bilbao. I guess it's a commuter train the whole way.
I don't remember how often they run, I know the train we took was pretty well timed for our overnight train, maybe we had to wait an hour or so. But check out Trainline, they have the schedules of all the trains, it is in English, and if you book through them you can use a non-EU credit card to pay so it is pretty simple.
@@tendegreeswarmer Thank you so much!!
Again, such beautiful scenery! The towns look lovely! The bridge was so special. And what were those gorgeous bright blue flowers behind Robb?! I want them in my yard.
This was definitely a beautiful day walking, though those blue flowers were somewhere in Galicia as Robb filmed all of his segments later on in the walk (so he would be speaking from experience). We passed so many great flowers all along the Way, June/July is a great time of year for that.
I am so happy you are taking care of your feet, I probably would have taken the bus on a longer route than 7 km! I love the gorgeous blue flowers that we can see behind you! Bien Comino!
It was a great time of year for flowers. They are everywhere, on the whole route, especially the poppies. So many different kinds of every color, which change as we go along. It's great!
