A Minimalist’s Approach to Great Travel Photos
Join me on a week long trip to Mexico where I capture all of my travels on 35mm film using only one camera and one lens.
As a professional photographer, it can be hard to combine vacation and work and not let one negatively affect the other.
I find it really liberating to approach these trips from a minimalist perspective of taking less gear and really focusing on what actually matters.

Scanning my Grandpa's 50 year old film photos (they're incredible)
มุมมอง 2.3K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
I recently found a box of my grandpas old film slides from the 1960's and 1970's and thought it would be fun to scan/digitize them. With the help of my mom, we went through them all and selected our favourites. I brought them back to Vancouver with me and used my mirrorless 35mm scanning kit to create high-resolution RAW files of them. From there, I did some basic cropping, colour correction an...

In this video, I share a real world review of the first time shooting on my new Leica M4 film camera. The Leica has been on my radar for a long time, and I finally had the opportunity to scoop one up locally at a fair price. The Leica M4 is considered by many to be the pinnacle of analog design. Nice video 👍
Hey Adam.. Awesome shots! Need your help on this one please.. So my Nikon d5300 LCD got blanked and it will cost about 180 USD for repairs. I trek alot and mostly shoot landscapes and astro with Tokina 11-16mm and 50mm prime lens in harsh weather conditions of Himalayas. Looking for upgrade, my requirement are: 1) Good Battery life 2) Weather sealed, robust but lightweight body 3) Cheap (Under 1000 USD including a wide lens) 4) Looking for great photography dslr and dont expect great video capabilities Which camera would you recommend? How about Nikon d7500 which would be compatible with my current lenses as well? Or would you recommend anything else? Any Canon/ Sony apsc a6400 (I will have to sale my lenses in that case) Thanks in advance!
Loving everything on it, thanks for sharing so detailed insides!
I'm glad meet you. Nice video.
Thanks mate!
Came across to this, nice shots man and I like the style of your vlogging.
Thanks Dylan, appreciate that!
Good luck on the way bong🥰🥰
Thanks pal!
nice
Thanks so much for watching!
Nice advice - I usually bring my a7iv with a PD clip on a tour but it can be bulky and annoying when you bring multiple lenses. I try and stick with a 20-70 f4 and find it provides a good variety without being too bulky. Nice to see you get out in Whistler! Maybe I'll see you around - hoping for more snow soon!
Right on - yeah I've done that for a couple tours too and always felt I was thinking about it and not enjoying the skiing as much! Haha - fingers crossed for more snow definitely!
Loved this one! So good!
Thanks mate, really appreciate it!
Dope!
Thanks man!
I have the ricoh gr3x and it comes with me everywhere. It's really so good!
right on, yeah such a great camera!
Hey nice a fellow Canadian M4 user! Nice shots and hope to see you make lots more photos with it!
why did you choose the 28mm version over the 40mm version for skiing? or was it just the one you already had?
Those photos really tell the story! Now I want to bring my X100V to Whistler next time I ski!
Thanks mate! for sure do it, super fun place to shoot!
Do you find yourself cropping in post with the GR? I've been wanting to pick up either a GRIII or GRIIIx for when I don't want to bring my Sony kit but have been going back and forth between 28 and 40mm. I usually take posed photos with a clear subject and not so much street/landscapes, and I often zoom in on my iPhone camera by about 1.4-1.6x hence leaning towards the X.
"Unzip my ski pants, pull it out" ... Woah Woah
1:30 pause!
Perfect take every where camera. Spot on. Except you do have to worry about dust. They have a well known issue with dust getting into the camera. Taping up the audio/speaker ports helps.
Definitely! I've heard others have that issue but I personally haven't yet and I've shot in some pretty dusty places.
This camera is going to go up in price for sure. This is like the 4th video I've seen on it this week.
Yeah it's definitely getting noticed! Can't wait for the announcement of the next version.
that's just the algorithm 😂 but they have been a cult favourite for years, similar to the Fujifilm X100 series - but these are a bit smaller which probably makes sense for skiing
also it comes in two different focal length options, a 28mm and 40mm equivalents
It's already 1350$ canadian I think my iPhone will do just as good
Oland Export Ale can in the front of the tent. Looks like about 1977,
Loved the video! You've conviced me! I also love the grading, you should make a video about how you get such a great look!
Thanks Kyle, appreciate it! welcome to the club hahaha. I will definitely keep that in mind to do a video on editing/grading!
I want one so bad but I’m scared about the dust issue and the autofocus concerns so many people have. I have a bulkier Fuji X-H2 with lenses, but want something super light for everyday photos
yeaahh I hear you! Honestly I beat this thing up and take it everywhere - haven’t had any dust issues yet. And in terms of autofocus, if you use snap distance you don’t have to worry about or rely on AF, game changer with this camera!
Had mine for a year. It lived in my pocket . Took it for split boarding, to festivals , hiking , family stuff and travel. I never had an issue with dust or anything else for that matter . The only time I’ve heard people talking about is on TH-cam and it feels an issue that has been over exaggerated . Also the battery life is fine for casual use
The raw files out of the GR series are quite malleable and responsive, easy to manipulate in LRC.
@@Gogogordy1 true, love working with them!
Fuck yeah! Great work
Thanks so much!
Hammer? What kind of a hammer is that 😂
Hahaha rock/hammer… same purpose right? 😂
Much needed perspective - good stuff Adam!
Thanks Eric appreciate you man!
So stoked to add one to my camera bag one day! Another killer video dude keep it up!
Thanks Josh. You're going to love it man, honestly surprised you haven't picked one up yet ;)
Loving the videos. Keep up the good work! I do have a quick question. If you were to pick one camera for a hobby photographer just trying to capture trips and memories, with a price tag around the 1000 range. What would you recommend?
Thanks so much! Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with any camera in that price range. It depends more on what you value - do you want a fixed lens or interchangeable? Do you care about size/weight? Lots of factors here but just for everyday photography I would recommend this camera.
Fixed lens for sure. Besides that just a relatively travel friendly camera, easy to bring on any trip without size/weight being a super limiting factor. Would you still have this one as your go to for this? Thanks!
You sold me
Ricoh gang!!!
"Magazine-Worthy Portraits" is a bit oversold
fair! I appreciate your comment - I changed the title to better match the expectations of the video.
dope!!
thanks y'all!
Perfect camera for a trip like this
You know it man, thanks for watching homie
Such a brilliant camera! The 28mm focal length and compact size are perfect for outdoor activities.
Agreed! Recently traded the 40mm version for the 28mm and loving it.
Yeah man! Perfect timing for me. Thanks dude. Gulf Island Boy here! Love the wet coast!
very welcome man, LOVE the gulf islands!
Why does everyone make these videos?
I'm not sure - maybe because it's an important message or a lot of creatives are feeling similar ways right now!

Congrats on the purchase of your M4. Great camera! I noticed you have what appears to be a light meter on top. What brand is that and do you ever shoot Sunny 16? Thanks!
Thanks so much! yes it is a Hedeco lime light meter. I do shoot sunny 16 as well and really enjoy it.
I love your vibe and your perspective on this. keep the hard work going!
Thanks man, really appreciate that!
Awesome, I love finding old pictures like this.
Thanks Paul - agreed so much fun!
It is a tribute to the fact that Kodachrome is so great I have slides from 1968 and look like the day I shot them
most legendary film stock of all-time right?!
Wise words! Thank you for this! Did you film this in BC? Some of the images looked familiar.
Very welcome thanks for watching! Filmed in North Van, yeah!
oh my god this is so high quality what
Bless up! Thanks dude
WOW!!
Thank you!
Love this bro!! Keep it up
Thanks man appreciate it!
I enjoyed that because I only a few days ago scanned all of my slides from the same time period as your mom. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a nice slide copying set up as yours. Doing so brought back some wonderful memories. By the way, that plastic cube you placed those slides into is from a a Bell and Howell slide projector system I used back in the days. Time changes and time goes by. When you’re older and your kids are your age, they won’t experience the joy of scanning and editing slides. They will have digital files to view. Which leads me to wonder what format they will be using in their time. I traveled to every province in Canada, but missed going to Newfoundland. I so regret that. Hopefully one day I will while there’s still time. One thing I remember a “Newfie” telling me. “stay where you’re at, and I’ll come where you’re to.” Thanks for sharing. 👍
Really appreciate your comment. Completely agreed about only having digital files to view (luckily I shoot film and archive my negatives!). Love your quote about the Newfie you met hahaha.
I have my grandfathers Contax Zeiss 50 2.0 and his rangefinder. I have adapted the lens to my R6m2 and it’s amazing. 72 year old lens with the dents that happen when he fell off a moving platform and broke his back in 1960.
Wow - the history eh? such a cool way to connect with our past
Amazing photos ! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching :)
