He was 18 or 19 here. Imagine being in high school with someone who could do this. Or at a university, and you're looking for an open practice room on your first day, and you hear this man playing. I would never want to leave. I'd just stay to listen.

Kholodenko deserves a far better turn out from the audience.

Check out Guillaume Sigier's performance added here on TH-cam in 2021. In my opinion, it far surpasses any performance of this sonata I have heard to date including Trifonov's.

The very 1st time I listened Liszt's Sonata was an old LP and the pianist was Alexis Weissenberg, in late 50' of past century! it still remains for me the best availabe version of this great masterwork! among the 10 modern versions I own of it, I would place Krystian Zimerman in 1st place, followed by Pogorelich, Pollini and Yundi Li (studio) and still more recently, Yuja Wang! Hamelin is a very good version but not a 1st choice! his "grandioso" is a bit too fast and lacks poetry and does not touch the sublime! great technique but lacking all the others above give

As great as Horowitz, tremendous poetry!
