Old Man In A Shed
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 21 มิ.ย. 2015
We are Karen, Eric, Dexter and Bella. We made our self build camper in September 2015 with the intension of seeing more of the UK. During the build process Dexter moved in and claimed it as his own, so we have to put up with him sulking when the van is full and he has to share. In the summer if 2018 we revisited the NC500 to visit some of the areas we missed the summer before and this seemed like the right time to start a youtube channel so the Kids could see where the old folks were and what we had been doing.
During lockdown of 2020 the old man needed a project so the channel has changed a little bit. Its now about what I'm doing to keep from turning to drink.

Sunday Ride to Danby

The weather man said it would be nice, he has been known to fib. so feelling a little blue I decided to take a chance on finding blue skys. Sunday ride in the North York Moors to Danby. Google My Maps link to the route, www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1yRIWfj79JBRaCIatuFq5E53SfsravMc&usp=sharing
I didn't fancy taking my brand new bike down the forest drive, i wasn't too sure what to expect, so took the alternate route to Keilder via chesters & saughtree which takes you down some great roads that you will no doubt know, but it's on my list for future, maybe on my older bike, as are a few other roads i fancy doing in the area. GL
Cheers for the comment, plenty of roads to try around the Northeast I'm just at the start😊
just got back from 4 days walking in the Lakes and itching to get back on the bike for a nice day's ride through the lanes, but the weather is still shite here and looks like will be for a while, so at least i can relive a recent trip in a part of the country i really like & will be back in soon 😄 thanks.
nice one pal 😁
How has the helmet faired over the last 8 months? Recommend it?
It's as new, I love this helmet though it suffers a little from wind noise.
@@oldmaninashed I’ve heard that about all flip over helmets, a compromise over convenance….
I honestly believe that there's certain things in life where you should always buy the best and comfiest no matter the cost, (and maybe figure how to pay later lol), and footwear is one. This is borne by my lifelong hassle getting them to fit my deep and extra wide feet. A good pair can last decades, and the measure is that you don't even notice when wearing them, wheras ones that aint quite right give you a constant reminder. I have had a pair of altberg walking boots for 8 years, still good as new, & after trying on dozens of pairs of motorbiking boots at places like SBS, paid another visit to Richmond for a fitting & bought a pair of altberg Hogg motorbiking boots. At £330 for the special XW size and a 16 week wait, it's a fair chunk of time and money and a bit of an intake of breath, but i doubt i'll ever need to buy another pair, so well worth it. I didn't try on the oxfords, but they look good quality, so hope you get good long service out of 'em. Cheers
Cheers for the comment, have to agree with you. Nothing quite like a good comfy pair of boots 😁
I did the 250 starting on 2nd Jun, riding from home to start at Rookhope via barnard castle and stanhope similar to yourself. I stayed at the Masons arms in Norham overnight, then back to allenheads and home the next day via St Johns chapel then middleton for a total of 497 mainly enjoyable miles in the 2 days which flew by even though i wasn't gunning it, although i did run short of juice when i reached otterburn so had to double back and go 8 miles to Bellingham to be safe, as some locals told me there was'nt anywhere else near, but hey-ho lesson learned. I know what you mean about those sheep, so annoying !! even when you beep your horn when getting close they just look at you funny and carry on eating in the middle of the road as you crawl past. If i was designing the route, i would'nt do so much on the A68, id pick a few more lanes, as there was a fair bit of traffic when i was there probably because it was a nice day and a sunday, but at least the sun was shining and the scenery great. Nice to see it from someone else's perspective, i'll keep an eye out for the next one, and mark the gun down as a possible stayover for future, looks great. GL and thanks.
Thanks for the comment, we generally try to go mid week as the roads are quieter. We start Wednesday and return at the weekend and usually see lots of bikes going the other way. The next stage takes us to the coast.
NICE..WANT ONE
2nd view of your unboxing and your opinion. Thank u Sir. Ive just ordered one Cheers from Nova Scotia
Glad I could help, I'm very happy with mine.
Great idea see you just don’t have to spend loads of money all the time with a bit of creative thinking well done good job
Thanks 👍
That would do my head in after a couple of hours top vid carry on
Need it to be very annoying so I turn it off😂
I'm a new subscriber. Good review! Ride safe!
Thanks for subbing
I recently traded my HD RoadGlide for a Triumph Tiger and made the switch to a modular helmet. I wound up getting an LS2 Valiant 2 and I absolutely love the way the chin guard rolls to the rear of the helmet b/c I prefer to ride open face with the clear visor down. Having the option to roll the chin guard forward for cold or rainy conditions and use it as full face helmet is pure genius in design. I can’t understand why everyone who prefers a modular design isn’t going out and buying an LS2. The other thing which I think they did well with the LS2 was design the visor to engage a detente that leaves a small gap for air flow when the visor is down. This is the most bullet proof way to ensure the visor stays clear even in the most adverse riding conditions.
I have to say I'm very happy with my LS2 helmet. Great in the hot weather to be able to get lots of fresh air.
Far from a idiot my friend.
Living on the south coast we simply don't have such open countryside, it seems after 10 minutes riding your back in some big town or major A road. Nice to see such open space riding
Yorkshire is Gods own county 😁👍. Thanks for the comment.
funnily enough i went through pickering yesterday as part of a 195mile day out including pickering-newton-egton-then had to detour round the stonegate-danby section coz of a road closure i couldnt pass like i did on the pickering-newton section, but took in westerdale-ingleby-chop gate-swainby, all in lovely sunshine. I love this part of the world especially the moors like around the top of rosedale chimney, which i aint done this year yet, but last year had a bit of an issue going up it on the last 1:3 bend on my 125 when i got spat off dropping into 1st & wheeieing coz the poor bike struggled to lug my 19st frame up it lol, but shouldnt be a prob this year on my bigger bike. keep uploading the vids coz it's great to see bits i recognise lol, thanks.
Thanks for the nice comment, I love the small back roads around the moors and dales.
Not sure as I have never taken notice. I just put it on if it's a cold night for a few hours before I go to bed. Keeps the chill out of the shed.
How much oil does it consume if used for 10 hours?
thanks again for posting the route, i've done a few of these roads but still plenty untried that i'll hopefully incorporate in the summer, so keep 'em coming :)
Nice ride round in beautiful countryside great video to watch not much traffic chill out relaxing ride take care ride safe
Nice looking mod. I was considering doing this to my scram. Are the spacers alumium or plastic? Where did you get the kit from and how much? Mike 😊
The spacers are plastic and I got the kit off eBay for less than £10.
Would i be able to run a ten inch tv on it or charge the a ten inch tv as it chsrges up thanks Jx
Depends on the wattage needed. This is a small battery you may be better with a larger battery.
Έχω αυτό με 25 πόντους λάμα. Μπορώ να βάλω μπαταρία 4 αμπέρ;
I don't think Google translate worked very well, but if the battery is the correct voltage the amp hour capacity should not be a problem. Probably 🤞
Super gentle ride through the beautiful country side. Thanks for posting
Thank you
Me and mrs d are buckled at u , nicely demonstrated by sexy pants 😂😂😂 but on a serious note, great idea bro, might of saved mesel £50 if i had done that instead of using chippings, but hey ho, hope it wks, ill be copying, 😂😂 see u this weekend bruther
On my way soon, got to pick up a new fire pit on the way.
How did the barrow move on its own? Couldn't see you with that camo 😂
I was never there, 'you ain't seen me, right 😉'
@oldmaninashed Didn't see you at all. It's just a floating beard and self-propelled barrow 😆
Thanks for the vid, i like the place names superimposed every now and again, it makes it easier to follow your route and drop a pin on a map. I've never done the Clay Bank To Castleton Road, so will have a look the next time i'm up there, hopefully in a few weeks. GL
Cheers for the comment, I’ve put together a route map in 'My Maps’ www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1yRIWfj79JBRaCIatuFq5E53SfsravMc&usp=sharing Link is also in the description, hope this helps.
@@oldmaninashed Thanks for that, appreciated. I was thinking of maybe combining your route from stonegate to egton/egton bridge and then down the lane through stape onto pickering, then back through the vale of york, instead of heading north, as it's a road i havent done since the 70's when cycling lol & can't remember it. As i live just outside bradford it's going to be a fairly long 200mile day in a few twisties, but i'll create a cpl of gpx's for importing into my beeline and see what i fancy later. GL
just to let you know i've been exploring some of the the roads you mentioned (twice) in the last few weeks, always good to take a new route, and yesterday did bear off at houlsyke (i missed the left turning onto the moor coz i thought it looked like a driveway, and only when i looked later on google earth did i realise my mistake lol. there was a pretty unmaintained narrow turning left turning back on itself before said junction, which i didnt fancy so thought better of it), so went through glaisdale and then headed off down into pickering from egton bridge through stape, what a superb road that is over the moors, especially the first part. twas a lovely warm day with sun for most of it, and i'll add what i missed plus a few other roads to my collection when im next up there soon. GL and thanks again
Interesting video açai pity about the miserable day them pinlock inserts are excellent aren’t they I have one on my adventure helmet it’s a god send I’ve also got a couple to fit on another helmet like a pinlock for inside and one for outside supposed to stop all rain from staying on the visor but yet to try them yet and that cafe what a beautiful place so much space in there tables well apart lovely I take it Karen dosent like the fat on her bacon 😂 I love the fat on all meat as you would notice if you saw me😂anyway both of you take care ride safe
Thanks for the nice comment, Karen is one of those funny people that removes all the bacon fat. The dogs love her for it though 🤣
Great interesting video love Yorkshire been up a few times I live near Colchester in Essex bit flat around here we had a holiday at saltburn by the sea stayed in a old tin miners cottage great neighbours there as well we drove over the mores a lot love it went to goathland as we always do on the steam train from pilkington and Scarborough we love but anyway take care ride safe
Thanks so much for the nice comment, like you I love this part of the world and I’m lucky enough to live on its doorstep.
Nice one 👍
Great relaxing ride and scenery
Cheers mate
Mine aren't waterproof either. quite disappointing considering the rest of the RST gear is so good
Have to agree, pity as the boots are otherwise good.
Im enjoying the leisurely pace of your videos. May I ask what 360 camera you are using?
Insta360 ONE X2 I found it on offer when they released the X3. Thanks for the nice comment 😊
I did mine yesterday, to work. 2022 s1000rr. Got drenched but feels great.
Have had the same boots for over 2 years and worn in some horrendous weather. Also, worn them on 4 separate tours and have never had any issue with them. Have 3 pairs of boots and always go to them because of comfort and weather protection. Real shame you've had this experience
I wish they were dry as I really like them. But summer is round the corner so it's not too bad😁
Best of luck, enjoy 🙂
Shame about your experience with the adventure x’s, had mine 18months in most weathers and I’ve had no similar issue, I just lost a screw from one of the lower buckles.
As I said in the video, I like the boots but the boots I've had have not been waterproof. I'm glad you're having better luck with them.
weather has been just terrible day after day for so long, starting to piss me right off lol. I'm more a fair weather rider these days, but seeing my brand new bike stuck in the shed with 1 mile on the clock after waiting so long to get it was too much, so had to take it out the other day in less than perfect conditions for a spin through the dales. roll on the sunshine, i love the NYM & will be there many times this year. GL
Have to agree, can't wait for warmer weather and some rides and camps👍🔥
Great 💯. 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice video
Thanks
Nice peaceful lunch stop. I like finding similar places while out riding.
I agree!
I returned to riding last year. An accident in 2008 left me partially paralyzed with many permanent injuries. I had been riding since 1972. So not riding was like losing a limb. I live on a popular motorcycle road and had to watch them go by day after day year after year. So I finally snapped and bought a bike. At 68 I went with a slower versatile bike. A KLR650. It’s like getting my life back after not riding for so long. Only riders really understand. I’m
I have had a lot of success with Moldex Rocket earplugs (purple ones) work fine for me with intercom/music, but cuts out a lot of wind noise and are very affordable
what made you go back on 2 wheels after a 30 year break
I sold my campervan and felt a little lost, started thinking about how I was going to keep going camping as I can't walk far due to health problems. Then I thought about going back to two wheels, started looking at bike videos and found the Himalayan. Got to say I'm still loving it almost a year later. Can't wait for the warm weather.
Just luuuurve the colour of your bike!
As soon as I walked into the dealership I knew it was the colour for me.
I'm was the same with the foam ear plugs. Hated them as you can just feel the mechanics of the bike too much. Got some Alpine Motosafe ones and they are great. Can hear the intercom and vehicles around me but deaden the wind noise.
I'm trying the same ones, so far so good.
I've been using ls2 valiant for about 5 years now absolutely love them they dont make the ls2 valiant now and I'm looking at the advant x which I will buy one and I think you will be very happy with yours
It looks like the LS2 logo is painted onto the helmet. Is it actually a sticker? Can it be removed?
Looks like it's under the clear coat. I don't think it can be removed.
