I just love to go sailing. I love the adventure buzz you get every time you go, it's so addictive.

Great vid again..i went round the Clyde few year ago on a 46 Bavaria. What an adventure. Hope to charter again there in march next year.
"Seaside entertainment", ... well, here in North-Germany this is called "Hafenkino", ... nothing better than watching with a cooled beer in your hand, ... above all, the mooring manoeuvres, the elderly skipper at the helm, screaming wildly, his woman at the bow with the mooring lines, screaming wildly back and all people laughing ...
A very enjoyable passage with you both, a great commentary and a very cool craft. Thanks.
Hi Mike hope all is well. A short season this year for me due to poor weather windows. I’ve been searching through your videos to find the one about the sails. You said you were pleased with price, quality and service plus you reduced your Genoa. I am thinking of doing the same as I seam to be constantly overpowered and sail better with it slightly reefed plus it’s a very heavy material making it difficult to get going in light winds. If it’s not too much trouble can you send me a link to the video and to the manufacturer. Many thanks. Take care. Roy
Great clear instructional video thanks
Prepare to be boarded... lol 😂 I'm going sailing. But I haven't got a baldy notion. Basically. I suppose I'm going to need a boat? With a big sheet thingy? And a steering wheel... Possibly.
🤣
Magic carpet 😍😍😀
Great video as always.
Sat pm. Just passed your boat. All looks fine after last nights big blow.
Cheers mark very nice of you to check. Thanks very much mike 👍
I love your narration - it kept me watching till the end. I think I’ll subscribe and follow your adventures. Thanks for having me aboard.
Welcome onboard Paul, why not check out some of my previous stuff? Regards mike
Something about these videos we absolutely love!
Hi Richard, cos you got the same bug!
Must check your previous video when you changed your head sail I need to do the same as my Genoa is too big and heavy. The results of your new sail look fantastic or perhaps you can sail after all🤠🤠
Just luck I’m sure 😂
I have just searched for Scanyacht 290 and found Swallow up for sale in Deganwy. What's the plan for the next boat?
I have no plan 🫢
I saw your AIS track. Tack angle was magic. Those speeds are amazing. You certainly made effective changes. But its not just Swallow. Its your sailing. Constantly paying attention and adjusting. Watching cos I love it!! Your cheeky joyful grin made me smile!
But I’ve always been sailing her so there must be some difference I’m sure. She just feels slippery now, doesn’t have a max anymore. Can be pushed a little harder and so on. You’re probably right about the grin though I’m sure it helps. 😁 Nice to hear from you mike
Lucky you getting out for a beautiful sail. Jealous but living vicariously through you enjoying your sailing. Wave dancer is in France for a facelift so we are land locked for the rest of the season
A face lift, how nice 👌
@@sailingcosiloveit getting jobs done we can’t get anyone to do in Ireland for a reasonable price. Yachts are like cars in France and they look after boats so much better. Arzal has a collection of workers eg sail makers, painters, fitters of tanks etc. We plan on sailing Atlantic Coast of France next season so need upgrades
I’d take a spare rudder in case you meet an orca 🤣
@@sailingcosiloveit yeah. We were only home when that attack happened right in the area we had sailed through the previous week. Put the wind up us I’ll tell you. We’re hugging the coast next year 🤣
Hi , love your films :) You advised me how to conquer the swellies in a RIB when it was my first time . Thankyou advice was spot on and I’ve been to Caernarfon from Conwy and back many times , I love it :)
Brilliant 🤩
Very impressive Mike - you must be well chuffed! Happy Days!
It’s nice just to something right for a change 😂
Happy the fishing net is working ok, just needs a line over the boom to elevate it off the surface a bit, excellent sailing and going at quite the pace now, you will have to adjust your passage predictions or you might turn up a day early.
Fishing net is work in progress 😆 Thanks for the advice. Will keep my passage plans of old and hopefully get a smile as I realise I’m going to beat it, hopefully 🤞
Can't wait to watch this later. Best weekend I've had on the water in long time. 5kts all the way down the east coast of ynys mon ! Had to try slow my little boat down the best I could
Sounds brilliant, happy sailing ⛵️
Good video Mike. Wish we had such an active sailing community in Aberystwyth as you have up there. One thing, what sort of autohelm are you using? I couldn't see a windvane on your self steering gear.
Go on MIke admit it, you've secretly installed an electric motor LOL. Brilliant sail and Swallow's performance must be very satisfying.
😳 poop me secrets out 🫢 🤣😂🥲😂
Good to see you on the water again Mike
Cheers Derek, not getting the sea miles in this year 🙃
what a great sail, thanks for sharing
Welcome 👍
Watchin you,re videos cos I luv em
Brilliant! 🤩
Glad your back Mike trust all is well - you’ve certainly got swallow set up well and stable now mate all good 👍 Malc uk 🇬🇧 😊
Hi Malc, things definitely looking better through the water 😁 All the best mike
❤👍👍👍 What a FANTASTIC performance, well done Mike.
Cheers my mate 👍
when you got it out the yard after winter ,first sail i knew it faster could see the difference comparing it with old videos and same weather conditions, so glad you got rid of that snow plough on the bow pushing water and upsetting the tide times all along the west coast of uk 😂😂
I I’ve been responsible for all kinds of stuff going wrong all over the place. Hold my hands up it was me. I’m playing with the weather now 🤣
Missed you, hope all is well!
Thanks for the hope, mike
Heave to was also a possibility to make your tea and doing your thing.
Agreed and I do so quite a lot 👍
As a novice sailor who's still working on getting his old cabin boat out of the yard and seaworthy, I've picked up loads of good tips and tricks from your videos. And loads of good local knowledge, too, because these are my local sailing grounds 👍 Cheers, mate.
Very cool! 😎 love it mike
Could you do a comment on my boat she is moored in Holyhead her name is Anegada sails well long keel ketch really love your posts kind regards Andy
excellent tour and run down
O6:48 should be "Josefine" from YT "sailing wood" on her first trip after the years-long refit
Fantastic
Very nice looking boat. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks for watching! 👀
Hi Mike. Just looking for a bit of advice on the Peninsular. I sail a Lugger, so a big dinghy!! I can land her anywhere as long as it's not too rocky when dried out. I have sea legs now and have gradually made my way around Anglesey already in stages!! I'm planning an overnighter from Y Felinheli / Dinorwic and just letting the tide take me as far out and back again the next day. Hoping the ducks all line up so you can assume it'll be close to neaps, SW wind ideally, no more than F4/5. I know the common advice is the last anchorage is at Porth Dinllaen, but are there any other places beyond that where a Dinghy could anchor up for the night? I seem to remember a video about a secluded cove with a pub up the hill but can;t find that anywhere on the maps!! Any help appreciated.
The anchorage you’re thinking of is Porth Dinllaen. Not too good if north in forest but you can pull up the beach. Wouldn’t do Bardsey sound in a f5 in a drascombe. I’ve sailed drascombes and found they can swamp quite quick in any type of overfall. F4 or less I’d say and yes neaps of course. Regards mike
Cheers Mike. Yes, the swamping does worry me a bit. I think I will be trading up next season!! @sailingcosiloveit
well after some time away from the water just thought id do some prep and make sure am cluded up befor i sail my new to me little boat from Pwllheli back to Conwy and trust Mike to be here with a super helpful video! cheers Mike happy sailing
Your welcome, hope you got home safe 👍
@@sailingcosiloveit yeah just 🫣 wasnt without challenges thats for sure!!
That’s why it’s so much fun 😁
Great video - but I'm confused... the height of the step in your coach roof looks higher than the 24 Mk IVs I've been looking at - is yours a late Mk IV?
It’s higher on all the MK4’s over the MK3’s only. You must be looking at MK3’s
Garmin rules! And you said I had overkill on the electronics!
I agree and you most certainly do 🤣
"Not that we're racing of course"!! LOL!!!
Nobody’s ever racing 🤭
Just what we needed for our new Crabber 17. Grt vid, very well explained, thanks skipper!
Well designed little crabber, I’ve had one in the past and found it well balanced with a decent amount of ballast making her well stable in a dinghy gale. Enjoy mike
Another brill vid.
Watching all these from the start. 😊
Going to be a late night then 🤣
@@sailingcosiloveit I'm used to them having a boat! 🤣🤣🤣
Well presented and clear. Excellent useful content thanks
Cheers I hope you find it useful 👍
I remember the carnage of this when i went to help in the aftermath for my boat. Luckily mine was fine. But for many others. It was the end! I did lose an entire halyard though right to the mast never too be seen again😂. Never will i know how any storm did this.
Wind can do all kinds when it blows hard. Many years ago I had a mast fitted while on the hard. That night it blew. I was driving passed the next day with the wind still blowing hard and seen from the road a halyard in the air. I decided to go and sort it, just in case like you it came out the mast. What shocked me when I got on deck was it was not a halyard but a rigging wire. All three leeward wires had undone in the winds with the bottle screws completely detached. I quickly put them all back together and this time fitted the split pins. It was just wind pressure that kept the mast up and if it had backed or veered I would have lost the mast for sure. A lucky day for sure ✔️
Great video ! Thank you
Glad you liked it!👍
Great vid always wanted to do this
Sure you could find a way if you put your mind to it 👍😁
@@sailingcosiloveit if you know anyone who needs crew let me know.. Based in Birkenhead and got experience... Hoping to do ym this year.... Love the way you explain stuff taught me a thing or two
Weathers all over the place Terry, its like monsoon season up here but cold squalls/rain 2x on the clock for a week then 22deg for weekend in Scotland!. if you have free digs or a safe ball sit tight and have a few pints. Looks sporty on your side next week. Been trying to decide where to go myself will just take it as it comes a week anywhere on the boat is what counts..
I also normally like to let the weather decide where we are going but even it doesn’t know this year, it’ll be an adventure for sure 👌
Some people think I am odd, no sniggers at the back, but I always set the clocks onboard to UTC/GMT then you follow the sun's time and realise that 0430 BST is really 0330 UTC and you know why it is so cold. Careful with that Old Speckled Hen, it is good. Current tipple of choice is Blandford Fly, a hint of ginger and the only beer I can drink cold. Another great passage. Thanks for sharing. Sandy
Hiya Sandy, ginger beer gets me at the back of my throat, refreshing but couldn’t do more than one unlike the hen 🤪
Are there any sailors that follow ST (Solar Time)? If I had a sailboat, I think I would, at least for long passages crossing time zones. I might give my boat its own time zone anyway, just for the fun of it. Solar Time simply means that noon is when the sun is at its highest point in the sky, wherever you are on the globe (except at the poles, but I wouldn't sail there). You'd need a special clock that does the calculations based on your GPS position, but that sounds like a fun project for someone who knows how to code (I happen to do). Everybody's got GPS onboard these days, so if there ever was a time for Solar Time it's now! UTC is simply Solar Time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. But that's not my boat! (Which reminds me, I need to buy a boat first.)
@@ximono It is is up to each skipper to work out what they want to do on their boat. This is just my practice. Solar time is used for a Local Apparent Noon sight with a sextant. For every other sun/plant sight you need to know UTC to start working out where you are hence I just keep all my clocks on UTC. UK high and low water times are always published in UTC. On long passages you view time as either on/off watch and have several watches in 24 hours, hence time zones become irrelevant. As long as you are awake and ready for hand over X hours since you were last on watch. Also sunrise/set changes as you move north, south, east or west. There can be a lot of fun had when you land in different countries and crew try and work out local time zone. I just look at my wrist watch and know that UTC is then add or subtract the difference. When you get your boat you might enjoy astronavigation.
@@sailingaphrodite4189 Your practice makes good sense to me. Even though crew shifts make time zones irrelevant, I think it's useful to know your current time in relation to local apparent noon. Sunrise/sunset always change anyway. At least they would change the slowest if your clock is on Solar Time. Not that it matters much when being sleep deprived and tired.. I definitely want to learn astronavigation! I think it's useful to know anyway, in case of tech failure.
Looks like a great day!
One of the more lucky ones I’d say 😁
