    I managed to get the Xbox 360 Pad in the controls and it plays great. The game really needs a seamless thrust control like the gamepad trigger (or paddles). I believe that on the PS2 this would had more fans. I think in a game of enjoying the flight is a limitation with fuel (basically time) wrong, I mostly wanted a low fuel consumption.

    Nice stuff ! I don't understand how you do it (the no full hp version) You have to wait for the slash animation to end THEN hit reload and turn ?

    • @xxxxSylphxxxx
      @xxxxSylphxxxx 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there!!! Take this with a pinch of salt, I haven't played for *ages*, and my memory can be super-fuzzy; often remembering dreams without knowing they're dreams and such! IIRC, I found it easier to press attack once and reload twice, there was some reason I eventually chose to learn to do without.... But pressing reload twice will be easier to 'get started' with learning. I think there are 2 reload animations for the sword (crazy!). You can 'force' the second reload animation by pressing reload twice, but there's some downside (maybe it locks out your attack/further reloads/items or something?). Or this could all be another blonde moment! Haha! Maybe full reload is just better! Regarding the actual motion, the short-short version (for anyone else reading, I know you already have this part) is that you swipe the mouse across the screen, trying to go over your gungeoneers head. While swiping, you attack and immediately reload, trying to time the reload exactly when your mouse is closest to the gungeoneer. The area hit by sword will be a massive arc, starting just in front of the hero on the side your mouse started, circling around and growing in range as it spirals around the side your pointer went overhead on, and ends up going out further (ie the range keeps expanding throughout a ~160degree arc, from point-blank to fullscreen. Ok, now the particulars you asked for! : I personally have reload bound to 'r'. I've met a pad player than can acheive it consistently too, and they believed it was easier on pad - I can kindof understand why, but pad is such an alien control method for my little hands! I think the more important part is ensuring that reload and attack are on different hands. After re-watching that video my muscle memory instantly filled in how I was approaching it - I've have the mouse resting somewhere behind the 'battle line', and when I wanted to guard flash, I'd start my input with attack+movemouse. Ie. not moving the mouse first then clicking when it was overhead.... so I'd press attack, then right after pressing attack I'd press reload. I think I wrote in a comment somewhere that it's really quick, like plinking in fighting games, but tbh I'm not sure about that, I think it's quite a bit slower! If you played any fighting games then great - try from 1 frame to 5 frames. I think it's in the region of about 3 frames between the attack and the reload. If you haven't played fighting games... It's almost as fast as you can. How long is almost?! Gah! Language fails here; I'd guess that there are plenty of people, probably most people who haven't played videogames lots, for whom the guard flash timing is *faster* than their fastest, but for a modern gamer it shouldn't be too hard before arthritis starts. ;) After this video was made, I actually got *better* at doing this, ending up really quite consistent eventually. I don't speedrun though, and speedrunning is probably the only place where guard flashes are really important. I just enjoyed gungeon, hated the sword, and wanted something more fun to do with it! Anyway, when I got better, I think I started going attack -> reload -> attack! (Bear in mind my ditzy memory, it could have been reload-attack-reload, which makes more sense, but my muscle memory really is telling me it was attack-reload-attack, and honestly she's far less prone to forgetfulness than I am! Haha!) I suppose I've typed an awful lot for what could have been as simple as "pointer behind gungeoneer, press attack -> reload -> attack as fast as you can while suddenly swiping mouse over gungeoneer's head." - I hope the extra words help rather than wasting your time. Above all, I'd note that it's *really* tight timing. I play a bit of street fighter 6, and it's about as hard as 1-frame links (which were removed from recent street fighter games for being too hard for anyone to do consistently. The minimum is 5 frames now!) Judging by the area covered by the 'flash' (it's not the entire screen, it varies, and seems to be a spiral arc shape), I know that the area hurt by this move is dependant on the player inputs, so it's hard to deny that sub-frame timing or the almost-analogue nature of cursor position/analogue stick is making it harder than just a link so... Ranty rant rant why don't you shut up Sylph? A good sanity check might be this: I was *easily* fully clearing the game (6 rat keys, advanced dragun etc) every time, WAY before I got any good at guard flashing without maxhp. And I only ever got about 80% consistent at it. I wouldn't call it a waste of time though - you have to use that sword sometimes anyway, and it was fun! Typing all these words might have been a waste of time, mind... Not mine, I love just talking at whatever wall hasn't gotten fed up of me yet! But I'm sorry if it wasted yours. [ You did ask, though! ;) ] <3

      @@Romibeno Extra note - I might well have been moving the mouse quite late. I just had a little memory pop up of trying to time it so that one buttonpress was on one side of gungeoneer, and the other was on the other (enemy) side. Less reliably, I would guess that it's attack-reload-attack as quickly as you can (all 3 within the same 1/10 of a second?), and trying to get the reload with the cursor on the 'safe' side, and the final attack's cursor on the 'hostile' side. I hope that's the silver bullet! And thanks for the thanks! I've ever so lovely when internet people are cool. x

      People do play damageless, but I'm not aware of anyone being able to do it for the entire game on the higher difficulty levels. I prefer to risk taking a little damage in order to deal more though - damageless play takes longer, and some challenges require specific traits to beat with a damageless character. But if you want to avoid damage altogether, you can. :)

    I know this video is well over a decade old but how did you rack up a bounty that high? Just farm sub-stations? I've recently got back into the game through Starfighter: Infinity's extra section.

    • @xxxxSylphxxxx
      @xxxxSylphxxxx ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd generally mix things up, raiding sub-stations, the occasional dive into a main base, and a little playing around with anomalies, iirc. I think starfighter infinity is *miles* better for rewarding attacks on 'proper' stations. I remember the shredder being one of the best ships for this purpose (the others were a slow aralian ship with good priximity weapons, and the aralian ship with a 'large' hitpoint that can still dogfight well) my faulty memory is suggesting 'defender' and 'enforcer', but I'm unsure. I *really* enjoy starfighter-infinity! I play it without being allowed to purchase any weapons or equipment - only build items using blueprints, or loot them from dead enemies (particularly non-player-races - all hail the tobor enhanced drive!). That challenge, which includes playing 'permadeath' rules, were a TON of fun for me, and I advise anyone to try it. I believe it's called the 'LD challenge. It must have taken me something like 20 characters before I got one to visit every sector. Great game, SO much fun!

    • @xxxxSylphxxxx
      @xxxxSylphxxxx ปีที่แล้ว

      PS, I remember damage field (bubble? whatever it's called - the one that deals damage around your ship) being a pretty important tool (requiring a proximity slot) Proximity blaster is well and good, but that damage field was the one that would kill LOADS of enemies, including turrets, for a low cost. It's a great way of making an ammo powerup work for your future even when all your weapons are fully loaded. I tried similar in starfighter infinity, but it wasn't the same until I found the hard-light 'buzzsaw' weapon - at which point I started finding all kinds of stealth shenanigans to have fun with. All that being said, the red xandalevium heat discs were my favourite weapon class in infinity! <3 Speaking of stealth - is the Tyraan Decoy still ridiculously good?

    If you want some tips: Level 1 is the ONLY level where you can easily build up your weaponry. Level 2 features far too few powerups for much other than necessary stealth. Level 3 has TONS of powerups, but needs stealth to capitalise on many. Still, there's a chance. Level 4 requires stealth to play safely, especially in the second half. Water heavily punishes fast ships (hunter and hyperion). Level 5 has even more dangerous waves that need stealth. Overall, bear in mind that buildup + stealth is enough to beat bosses and bad waves. The important factor is knowing when to stealth, rather than getting huge firepower. As far as ships go, the hunter mk.2 is by far the best - its double stealth duration lets it sail through the entire game on top firepower easily. The hyperion is awful - it has terrible level:1 weaponry, less firepower than the crux, and doesn't get a stealth increase like the hunter. The crux is average - massive firepower helps, but with the 'short' stealth duration, it's nothing on the hunter. At least it can get buildup level:3 quite easily! The main 'skill' in this game is just knowing when to stealth. Pen and paper notes of attack waves/orders might well help you (they did for me!)

I'm not sure mouse has much to do with the playability of the game, but I hope this info helps! (Mouse selection is a big thing in Starcraft, which I enjoy playing a lot. Rest assured, a logitech pro hero is a great mouse for most people. In recent windows version, I've always found the control panel mouse options to be sufficient for removing mouse acceleration (control panel -> change mouse settings -> pointer options -> deactivate enhance pointer precision. ) Not that I turned it off while playing lander, iirc. That being said, I *did* produce a version of this "Lander-Harder" (rebalancing & extra challenge) mod that did NOT remove the auto-level key, in case it got in the way of certain control choices like joysticks and the like. It can be found here: mega.nz/file/0xl3CbwS#_vQlw4LR6P_L7lC25FHG7wLhga1ex_exe0qSgzWwhz8 (As usual, virus scanners need to be pointed away from it, since it modifies a running process (lander.exe) to do its work!) I'd love to know if you ever got a chance to give this mod a try! I found it a *ton* of fun for revisiting this classic psygnosis game, and you're one of the players that I felt might enjoy it! (I've been in awe of your lander control method when watching your videos, and made a 'no auto-level removal' version of this mod just in case players like you, with your insanely innovate controllers, require the auto-level key! @@xxxxSylphxxxx I always knew that Windows xp, 7, 10, 11 do not completely remove mouse acceleration using standard control panel tools (via "remove high cursor precision" in the control panel). It seemed to me that the mouse acceleration that is always present in these Windows is insignificant and that you can play with it. But after playing a little with the mparam utility turned on, which completely removes acceleration, I was convinced that the complete absence of acceleration is much better. The only thing I would like from your cheat is that the fuel would never run out and invulnerability. I like to create challenges for myself in the game in some places of the level where you have to fly for a long time. Essentially, it's the very opposite of a cheat! Still, if what you want is an easier lander, then I'm sorry to have wasted your time! (Without farming the first miniboss in stage 5 for infinite score) (* SO many failed tries - many times more hours than 'getting over it with Bennett Foddy', for example!) [Note to self - test whether it's possible to kill stage 3 of the final boss, then die. If so, it worth something like an extra 1,700,000; almost doubling this score!]

    Ive played this game on and off since release and I only ever had much success with Easy mode and as a result have a ton of terrible habits because you can basically do easy runs without thinking nearly at all. This and the other video linked in the Steam guide are both incredible for actually learning how to play the game properly. Thanks!

    I have some right to claim that I am decent at this game. Finished Nightmare on standard game and a number of challenges, went close to finishing apocalypse (once haha) and even in spite of that I still find myself learning things from you. Why just yesterday I learned from your steam guide that you can repair armor with multitools? What the??? Watching this vid now to see if there is anything else I missed!! (Halfway through and nothing new yet, but we are not done here yet.) Thanks Sylph for your dedication to both playing and teaching this game. Such a wonderful game, and it is thanks to people like you that more people get to enjoy it rather than get frustrated and give up on it! :) Blessings from Australia.

      What do you mean by repair with multitools? Are you talking about just at a terminal or can you use them out of inventory or off the ground for repair? I've had some great runs go south because my armor broke and hadn't found a terminal to repair it in a few levels, but generally keep at least 3 multitools on me.

      @Steve muller :Thanks for the positive feedback! I don't know whether you caught my more recent video, 'what you're doing wrong', but whether you did or not, I suspect that as an apocalypse player, you'll have a hard time finding much to help you! (The stuff about using shotguns/rockets outside visual range, bleeding warlocks to prevent healing, or diagonal cover to avoid enemy AOE attacks; are probably most likely to be stuff you might not have figured out solo.) I'll have to get back into some Jupiter Hell soon, it's such a fun game! Well done for playing apocalypse, too! That stuff is mental! :D

      @@xxxxSylphxxxx I will definitely check out that video! (I know about shotguns outside visual range, and diagonal cover to avoid AOE, but I didn't know about bleeding preventing warlock healing! See I learned something already.) Something I wish that the game would reinstate: back in the day you had a chance with regular weapons to hit outside visual range, if the bullet/projectile passed over the square where the enemy is. Now it is impossible to hit anything you can't see except with rocket/shotgun splash, or grenades. I like the idea of hitting outside of visual range. It wastes more ammo, but it can keep you safe. That is a choice I think the player should have. Anyway, thanks for all your work!! Hope you are well. Blessings!

    I really love this duo concept! :) (watched ~1h so far but will watch whole later) So far my game style is more similar to Tormuse i think: - i have exactly same mixed feelings about molten (love it because i like to set the world on fire and hate it at the same time because i don't like to be set on fire) - so barbed wins a little bit with molten because of this. - i also like to pick max hp from hp stations - mainly because i like to make builds where i regen my hp (so either marine survival OR those relics that give you regen up to % OR ruins + shadow halls) - with those builds max hp is very good (otherwise i agree with Sylph - not so much unless you are already packed with medkits/stimpacks). Watching this i was wondering if mayby it would be good idea to modify this duo concept you did to something like: - get 4 people streaming at the same time - roll random seed (and everyone use it) - everyone goes 'Fated' (so different builds most likely) - at start of every moon - you roll for everyone who should go where (that is why 4 people needed) - i.e. (1) - mines, (2) - mirmir, (3) - rift, (4) - military barracks. Of course person going to mines does not go to Purgatory for obvious reasons. This needs to be done at the start of each moon (at level 2 when terminal is found) so person getting harder places (i.e. military barracks) or places where there is little amo can try to prepare upfront. - preffered difficulty: Ultraviolence (i mean Nightmare is much pressure to go forward and forward and random paths to go usually will not go well with it) - and it would be nice to get players with similar experience in the game. - everyone progresses one level at a time (and wait for others) - this makes it nice and clean. - after killing boss of each moon everyone make short summary what did they get (or what obstacles they encountered) - like 1 min short speach each (i.e. "i was lucky to get Shadowcloack at rift and so happy i got Scout as fated but running very low on medkits. Hope i can make it.) - if someone dies... well... he/she just wishes others luck and watches others :). This way you and audience can see and compare "what if" for every path simulteanously - MULTIVERSE PS: I am not exactly experienced with streaming but was wondering if there are mayby tools/platforms to make this - how to name it - more integrated? I really apreciate that Sylph actually has opened Tormuses stream and put it aside minimised. But mayby there is a way to make it 1/4 screen for everyone as integrated part of the platform? (or 1/3 i.e. on the left for others and 2/3 for own screen). Just wondering since usually when there is "a need" usually there already is "a solution" or alternatively it is actually good idea to create that solution (which might be good business oportunity ;)). Cheers, Falagor @edit: - about that small xp difference. I think if enemies kill eachother - they do not give xp (if they get killed by enviroment they do but not if they die from eachother shots). Aslo - that would be nice to see in the quadro concept i described - to see which path yelded most xp ;).

    • @xxxxSylphxxxx
      @xxxxSylphxxxx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thankyou so much for the support! <3 You're correct about enemies killing one another, but I think here most of the XP discrepancy was down to fanatics. (And FWIW barbed > molten for sure IMO! :D ) I love the idea of a bigger group trying a run like this! Let's rush Jovian moons together! Our original idea was to play a horrendously high difficulty, and use 'resurrect' (sending over savefiles) to rescue players that died. On UV, obviously, that doesn't really apply so much (although Spoilers in this paragraph follow: it was totally needed here! I was trying to 'up the ante' with sub-optimal play (pathing, reaver's claw etc), but my main failure was not realising that the ancient's clones don't deal damage - lessons learned, skill improved, worth it!!) Unfortunately, Tormuse hadn't unlocked 'inferno' difficulty in time for this run (make no mistake - he's better than me at chaosforge games). Also, as you mentioned, nightmare and apocalypse can feel a little stressful for 'fun' streaming. If you want to get in on the action next time, there is always discord voice chat and screen sharing. The JH discord channel has voice & video sharing channels that we could totally share next time if there are more than 2. Message me there and we'll organise something going forward! I tend to get *tons* of ideas when it comes to 'fun new ways to play a (old) game', especially roguelikes; so I'm sure we could get all sorts of fun community games in future, but doing this with extra players would be a great start in the short-term! Tormuse and I go years back, but I'm confident that adding more bodies to the squad soon will be welcomed! Message me on discord! (I'm going to be pushing my twitch channel in the coming months, and with JH being one of my favourite games, it'll be a priority there, so I'm really down for this!)

I'll put out all kinds of content in future including nightmare, but I can't promise giving good tips in a play-by-play. As for a specific tips-video; I'm not sure how much there is to cover that isn't applicable to earlier levels. I know nobody is crying out for answers to medium diffuclty, but if anyone is wondering, I feel that this is a *really* reliable way of unlocking inferno. I originally picked this class/trait combination in a plan to use 'death' for killing the harbinger (which I thought was guaranteed after finding it on my first (marine) try; apparently it's not!) In hindsight, though, just abusing the hell out of the guaranteed firestorm, combined with scout/hellrunner/dash, is a pretty easy way to tackle purgatory without really taking any risks. If you take this approach, try to get plenty of stimpacks (I was unlucky with them here) for stealth in the harbinger fight. There's a very strong chance of getting a relic in the anomaly that combines well with stealth (anything that passively hurts enemies - fire/poison etc), but even without them, you can pretty easily beat the harbinger's second and 3rd stages using gunrunner with this build, and the warlock relic from the anomaly is probably better anyway. Plasma grenades are an easy answer to stage 3, too. As for pre-harbinger (purgatory) - gunrunner + firestorm makes it all laughably easy. That means the hard part is harbinger stage 1. Go nuts there with all your resources (grenades etc). I held back too much here!
