A quick video of my first few cuts on my Frontier OS27 sawmill. Started with a small oak log and took the top off of a boxelder log in the last clip. My video editing skills are lacking so hopefully they will get better over time.

    I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks the assembly instructions are a bit difficult in places. Not everywhere, but definitely on some critical steps. Good informative video and I wish I'd have looked for vids like this before I started assembly of mine. Almost done now though and I've noticed some differences/improvements since yours came off the line.

      @@neubauer6 I agree entirely. They are so familiar with their product they assume everyone knows what they are referring to. Even the close up pictures in some cases don't reference the general area of the detail. I spent a lot of time with that. Now, if I did a second one, the things we are talking about wouldn't be so critical.

    Thanks for the review. I have the OS27 Gen 1 without the trailer. The assembly wasn't bad. Motor runs great going on 2.5 years of running it. I also have trouble with the belt wearing and called their support, one tech said that that is normal, and another said that it needs adjusted. After "adjusting" like they said, it still wears.... I ordered extra belts to have on hand because i haven't found the issue. I'll try the motor mounts like you suggested. The water drip does have a lot to be desired, and i also broke both grease zirks on the band wheels. I also stripped out one of the log clamps trying to hold the log into place. I recently bought the "auto water" feature, but it doesn't look like it fits the Gen 1 model, so it looks like I will be adapting that somehow. The log stops do move occasionally and need to be re-squared with the bed. This usually happens when i am trying to roll a massive logs on the mill. I have cut many species of wood, the really "wet" logs do cause an issue with the dust exiting the saw. I also have to blow out the sawdust with the air compressor now and then when it builds up. I was looking into buying the trailer, but after your review I am building one, and for a lot cheaper/better built. Like you said:It is a great saw for the weekend sawyer, but expect to have a few issues.

    Thamks for the videos. I am about to buy this mill too,but I am concerned wether they have fixed the problem with sawdust piling up in the saw house. How do you experience this? I am also planning on getting the trailer later on, but I see you are not happy with it. That is also a mayor concern... Kind regards from Norway.

    • @neubauer6
      @neubauer6 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My mill does have a dust chute and it takes care of some of the issues with dust buildup. Mine does have dust pile up on top of the safety switches but I haven't noticed it causing any issues. I open the hood and blow all of the dust out between logs. The trailer is not something that I can recommend. It comes with minimal directions and is not very sturdy. If I had to do it again, I would build my own.

    Exactly what I was looking for and it worked. You may have said it but I needed a star tip screwdriver for the motor. I got a whole screwdriver kit at Advance Auto for $10. And the mirror only has two prongs. From my research and what I was told, it was suppose to have three. So I ordered a new one, and two prongs is all a new one has. I got a motor $32 and mirror $92 from GM Direct. Looking into returning the mirror.

      If you buy the mill, I think you'll be happy. The instructions for assembly were poor. I would not buy the trailer again. Norwood's customer service was very slow to reply to emails. They had one guy that would answer technical questions on this mill and he was impossible to get by phone.

      @@OffGridFromTheGroundUp if you are buying it as a stationary unit without the trailer, you may have better luck than I did. The mill itself is built well and most of my issues stemmed from the trailer. Assembly was challenging due to poor instructions. The consumables like roller guide bearings don't seem to last very long. I will be replacing mine when it warms up. Customer service was a challenge since only one employee knew how to answer technical questions about these mills. If you are considering it, I would call Norwood as a year has passed and I'm sure the employees are more up to speed. I will say that I was always able to speak to someone when I called and they were always pleasant.
