Meet On The Ledge - Richard Thompson (cover)
A cover of Richard Thompson’s classic master-piece, written when he was only 17 years old!
It wasn’t the author’s original intention, but this song has acquired this meaning that it’s about meeting your friends in the afterlife. I lost my best friend a few years ago, so this is a very emotional song to me. I have this fantasy that, when my time comes, I will get the chance to drink one last beer with him, before slipping away. I don’t believe in afterlife, but still it is a beautiful fantasy.

It Don't Bother Me - Bert Jansch (cover)
มุมมอง 287ปีที่แล้ว
This is a song that I wanted to learn for a long time, but for some reason my fingers had a hard time with the picking. And then one day - it’s one of those things one can’t really explain - I just found a way to go through it naturally. I know it’s not the exact fingerpicking that Bert used, but it works for me.

From Galway To Graceland - Richard Thompson (cover)
มุมมอง 7785 ปีที่แล้ว
Richard Thompson's From Galway To Graceland is one of my all time favourite songs and one of the most moving songs that I have heard. I've been playing this one quite a lot and I believe I do it better now, so I decided to record it again. I think this first came out as a live version on the 3-cd compilation Watching The Dark - The History Of Richard Thompson. I suppose it was a rarity or lefto...

Fish - Throwing Muses (cover)
มุมมอง 1.8K8 ปีที่แล้ว
A cover of Throwing Muses' Fish, written by Kristin Hersh, originally from the 4AD compilation Lonely Is An Eyesore. One of my favorite songs of all time. The idea to do this cover came to me while listening to Sandy Denny singing Stranger To Himself. The plan was to slow it down and try to give it a folk feel, but I'm not sure I succeeded.
Hey Jack Kerouac - 10,000 Maniacs (cover)
มุมมอง 2.6K9 ปีที่แล้ว
Cover of 10,000 Maniacs' Hey Jack Kerouac, from the album In My Tribe, written by Robert Buck and Natalie Merchant. This is my favorite song on that great album and one of the Maniacs' most popular songs. So, when I decided to learn it, I was convinced I would find a dozen covers on TH-cam that I could use to pick the chords. To my surprise, I couldn't find any. Fortunately I was able to figure...
One Good Reason - Bob Mould (cover)
มุมมอง 1.1K9 ปีที่แล้ว
My finger-picking acoustic version of One Good Reason from Bob Mould's second album Black Sheets Of Rain. This was probably the very first Bob Mould song I listened to and I was blown away. Not too fond of the album, though. I have been toying with this acoustic version for a few months and it took me a while to make it work. I wanted to make it sound like a Richard Thompson song. I am not sure...

Queen of Eyes - The Soft Boys (cover)

My acoustic cover of Queen of Eyes, from The Soft Boys' Underwater Moonlight, written by master Robyn Hitchcock. I first heard this as part of a Bingo Hand Job bootleg tape (R.E.M. and friends Robyn Hitchcock, Billy Bragg, Peter Holsapple). It is still my favorite version.

Still a fantastic cover!
Thanks. Time flies.
This cover almost makes me cry. Congratulations!!!
Thank you so much. It's been 11 years!
Great! Very, very good!
Thank you
Bravo! This is beautiful
Thanks
Great job. Thank you.
Thanks
Wonderful work playing and singing! Question...do you use " double down up" picking for the arpeggios?
Thank you. And yes, I confirm the picking as you say
Been revisiting this page for years.
That's such a great compliment. Thank you so much.
@@AnotherBadSpeech I love acoustic renditions and Fish is a great one to hear.
Superbly played, a great inspiration.
Thank you
Would you be able to sell or share the tab for the chord change/grip when you go up 3 steps but replicate the same strum/fingering pattern? I can't capture those bars ....
I am sorry, I don't do tabs. Wouldn't know how...😕
@@AnotherBadSpeech I'm then curious on how you learned or taught yourself to play this tune with such authenticity? Watch You Tube? Someone teach you, without identifying the chord signatures? I had a guitar player instructor who showed me how to play various tracks and guitar parts, and also wrote out the tabs, note per note, during the lesson. It is less difficult than you think. If you play a song like Tull so effortlessly, with both replicated chord voicings, fingering pattern, and proper measure in the strumming hand, I'm pretty sure you are a more advanced player, maybe you read.
@@johnmaer First of all, thank you for the kind words. Actually I don't consider myself that good a guitarist, never mind a singer. I've always been a Tull fan and when I started playing guitar I got into these acoustic songs, trying to figure them out, things like Mother Goose and Skating Away. Always by hear and never being too precious about it, like getting the exact notes. Of course, I reckon that along the way I got reasonably good at that. And then with the internet, suddenly we have access to lots of footage that can be really useful. In this case, Thick as a Brick, I think that watching a few videos really helped to fine-tune my rendition. But I would say that knowing the song well and having a good understanding of Ian's guitar style is very important. And I hate tabs. 😄
@@AnotherBadSpeech I saw Ian & Tull do Thick, the entire 1st and 2nd movements, live back in the late 60's. For a young man back then, Andersen was gifted as a showman, front man-lead singer, and flutist and guitarist/acoustic. Ian captured old English folk music, intricate finger/hybrid picking, syncopated rhythms, and he choreographed his performance with bold moves on stage, almost gymnastic caliber body contortions and posturing, as you may know. I was jealous then, and still am. Incredible entertainer and he understands music. Not all rock acts could be attributed with that knowledge/grasp.
@@johnmaer IMO, Ian is a very underrated frontman. Back in the day, I mean 😄
You and your guitar make a lovely sound, yea.
Thanks
Wonderful! One of the few on YT playing this exactly (and simply) like Ian Anderson. Many of the YT guitar tutorials make this song more difficult than it really is.
Thank you. I am not so sure that I play it "exactly" like Ian, but it sound fine to me.
@@AnotherBadSpeech I suppose I should've been more specific. Watching Anderson play as he jumps around is difficult to see his finger positioning, but I noticed he was somehow "anchoring" his left ring finger through the chord changes. I had to do some real searching through tutorials before discovering your video that illustrates this. Often, just one little adjustment makes all the difference in either battling with chord transitions or easily getting the effect - all while trying to sing. :)
@@ShiftingDrifter I see what you mean 👍
lovely cover. very clean playing
Thanks
My god I was thirteen. My first record. Unforgettable!
I was three. Came to it much later, of course :)
Hauntingly beautiful at this speed.. Nice sped up as well.
Ha! Well I never tried that, but I just played it at 1.25 and it sounds ok indeed. Thank you so much.
Wow! This is amazing!
Thank a lot
Just watched your rendition of this and So Central. Both are fantastic. Thanks for posting. Please do more.
Thank you. There's a couple more on this channel.
Do you know how lucky you are,you are a wonderful musician.
Thank you so much
That was brilliant!
Thank you so much
Commented 2 years ago and here again and as before fantastic!!❤

Wow
thanks
Fantastic. Loved every second.
Thank you so much
Where is the lesson ?
No lesson. Learned it with my ears.
what is this tuning? [and very nice, btw]
It's standard tuning, but I think it was tuned down - 1 tone or half-tone (?) - I am not sure. This was a long time ago.
Sensacional !!!
Obrigado
Wow, I'm breathless. Thanks for focusing on the hand, I have material now to work for 2 years to try to get 10% of this.
Thanks mate.I am a visual learner, so I know what you mean.
On top of the great guitar playing, you have the vocal tones down pat. Nice work, it isn't as easy as you make it look, especially the keeping the picking clean and in time.
Thank you so much
This is an AMAZING cover. Really special
Thank you :)
Great, great guitar playing and voice, especially on the 12 string guitar.
Thank you
i'm sorry, it's me again....
Very nice rendition of one of my absolute favourite songs. I remember hearing that tune way back in the mid 70's when the album first came out. It blew me away - and still does. I think it was the first album I ever bought. You did a great version of it.
Thank you. It's one of my favourite albums
You kept it simple and accurate. Good job! It's funny, TAAB sounds so much more intricate than D, G, Am and A, with a few other connecting chords. Ian Anderson is a monster acoustic player, a grossly underrated guitarist. Thanks!
Totally agree. Ian Anderson is an amazing acoustic guitar player. Not to mention composer, show-man, flutist and singer (even with limited resources). One of my favourite musicians.
Again on loop while restringing a guitar. Happy New Year!
Check out Andrea Vercesi, he's the real Tull man 😉
Great job! Just like the album!
Thank you
Hello again, Joao. A great version of one of my favourite REM songs. I have a feeling that Stipe would greatly approve of your vocals. Hope you are keeping well. Very best wishes from Ian.
That's very kind of you. Michael Stipe is my favourite singer, so it's very rewarding to know that I was alright 😄
I love your voice. Im glad you kept it slow with good lighting and camera angle. Good job my friend
Thank you so much
Nice. Very clean. I just learned this one, Ian plays it a tad different. Stays in the lower register on the verse. Rock on good man
Thanks
As I understand it, he relearned to sing after a bout w prostate cancer . Still love it. Martin Barre should be paid more and brought back.
I love Ian's voice, but he started having problems quite early (late 70's maybe?). Unfortunately his voice didn't hold well through the years.
Thanks a million for this version! My number one. Tip for viewers: put it on loop. :)
Thank you so much. You're too kind.
Well done, sir! You got the tone, groove and the feeling as well as everything else.
Thanks a lot, sir!
Amazing cover 🔥 … Ian is an all time great 🙏…
Thank you
