    I had DMEK surgery 3 years ago after suffering with Fuch's for decades (no pain, but lights against a dark background were surrounded with halos, and colors were dull). Best decision I've ever made. I was given basically the same advice and I followed it as faithfully as I could, and the results were great--both in the doctor's opinion and my own. I had an additional restriction: I live near Prescott, Arizona about a mile above sea level. I had to travel to Phoenix for the DMEK procedure, the nearest place that offered it. Because of the altitude difference, I had to wait 5 days before returning home--otherwise the bubble holding the transplant in place would expand and possibly burst with the change in altitude and reduced pressure. I don't like to think about that collateral damage. Even with that inconvenience, I couldn't be happier with the result. My corrected vision is 20-20, I don't require glasses to drive, and the best part is the halos are gone, and colors are bright and vibrant again!

Made a sandwich for lunch before work, I was really hungry when i made it, so i went to take a bite witu a ziploc in the same hand and the very very sharp corner of the ziplock zipper poked me right in the eye. 3 scratches on my cornea. I had lasik eye surgery four years ago. I never had dry eye before and developed dry eye afterwards. One day my left eye went black for 20-30 sec and I got scared and saw my optometrist who looked behind my eyes and saw nothing also confirmed it wasn’t an eye stroke. I still had a healthy eye and 20/20 vision. Today I wake up and have a sharp stabbing pain in the same eye. I put warm compress, took fish oil supplements, eye drops, and castor oil and it has been shooting the pain on and off all day. Please do you have any suggestions? Do you think it’s more than dry eye🙏

    • @DrAnthonyMaloof

      Sudden sharp pain on waking is typical of recurrent erosion and that can happen infrequently after uncomplicated laser vision correction.

    @rmatt16 หลายเดือนก่อน

    thank you Dr Maloof, it could be psychosomatic indeed. In young patients, the usual suspect is allergic conjunctivitis, called mistakenly "dry eye" by some colleagues. The papillae could be very mild, but the symptoms could be severe, with suicidal risk.

    • @DrAnthonyMaloof
      @DrAnthonyMaloof หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great point, but allergic conjunctivitis is a clinical diagnosis that can be effectively controlled with resolution of symptoms. This patient did not suffer allergic conjunctivitis nor dry eye.

    Ok here guys Dr. Anthony Is it possible to progress myopia by 5 diopters in 5 years in your late 20s, from rubbing your eyes and sleeping on stomatch? Would that be keratoconus? Or what exactly gets damaged from doing that to cause this high nearsigthness?

    • @DrAnthonyMaloof

      Rubbing your eyes can certainly cause damage and warp your cornea. Same with sleeping on your stomach if pressure is applied to your eyes whilst you sleep. I would definitely get checked out by your local optometrist and they can identify if it is Keratoconus or something else. Would love to know the cause after you have had a checkup.

    What kind of surgery do you need for a central haze and scar in one eye? Will that surgery cure you? Could I do a cataract surgery after treating a haze in cornea? Will I ever be able to stabilise my vision? I’m really desperate here, really distraught: the surgeon told me I had the haze and a scar on cornea when I came to discuss a cataract surgery. Now I’m waiting to see a corneal doctor and surgeon. I’m scared of what he’s gonna tell me. The first surgeon wrote in his report that scarring looks inactive and long-standing. Please give me some idea how serious it is. My eyesight started deteriorating last summer in that eye and I was told in December that it’s a cataract, but I could not have imagined I had something else there!!!

    • @DrAnthonyMaloof

      It depends on the cause. Deep scarring can be reversed with stromal transplantation, replacing the structural layer with clear tissue. See this link th-cam.com/video/ZmLXvt4KcCM/w-d-xo.html

So carry on with cataract surgery back to the original doctor who said I had scar and haze. And they both know each other. The first doctor is not a corneal specialist but now I’m worried to have an operation with him although he is a renowned Vitreoretinal Surgeon and does these operations all the time. Will see.

      That explains it. Deep scaring cannot be treated by laser and I would not be rushing to layered transplant surgery. These corneas do not heal well. Long term steroid drops are useful to keep the cornea stable.

If you are in Sydney or Australia, please feel free to call the rooms on 1300 393 322 or if not you will need to contact a local specialist ophthalmologist that performs corneal surgery. Was cleaning yard and u think some debris may have gotten into eye. Optometrist put dilating drops in eye. It now appears as if there is a haze cloud in eye and around the peripheral the light has dimmed. An adverse reaction to the drops. Are these symptoms consistent w cornea injury. Don't want anymore drops. Whatxare your recommendations. Is there an eye test to check cornea without drops

    • @DrAnthonyMaloof
      @DrAnthonyMaloof 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is very tricky, and not something that can be answered electronically. Haze around an object in your field of vision implies a distortion, and if something happened with a foreign body, may reflect a change in shape of the cornea. This can be picked up on topography, tomography and aberrometry without drops. Let us know the outcome.
