Hi Dr Maloof. I have been diagnosed with Forme Fructe Keratoconus and recommended for Oxygen enhanced transepithelial CXL. I am in the mid 40s. What are your views on this method of CXL. It's supposedly a revolutionary new type of CXL. Your response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Thankyou for your query. I cannot offer you any specific advice on treatment, but what I find in my practice is that if someone suffers any form of early keratoconus and they abstain completely from eye rubbing, the keratoconus does not get worse. Hence, I don’t offer any form of cross linking treatment for such patients, nor intracorneal stromal rings, which I call prosthetic lego. Thanks again for your inquiry.
@DrAnthonyMaloof Also, the Ophthalmologist told me I also have "some" cataract in one eye. And while the keratoconus in that eye seems stable as I don't rub my eyes anymore, the vision in that eye is still weakening. Could that be due to the cataract? Please advise. Your opinion will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Its difficult to advise without any form of consultation. Your treating specialist should be able to provide you with specifics for your individual case.
