Hi, i am reviewing the GEM 12 Mini PC which is a gaming Mini PC which is offering an Oculink Port to boost its gaming performance via an Oculink eGPU. Do you have step by step instructions on installing NVIDIA drivers? I have a ROG Ally X that already has AMD drivers.
@@Downgrade13 Hi, Yes i do, Nvidia drivers install step by step tutorial is included in my "IOculink Friendly EGPU tutorial"Video 😀
Can it 4k 120hz the hdmi port?

Hi I bought the same egpu dock but I m confuse as in my dock there is 20 pin ATX connector instead 24 pin standard ATX connector now I m using cooler master SFX v850 psu which has 24pin ATX connector. Now how to connect it ?
@@Meesaa06 Hi, you plug the 20 pins ports by leaving 4 pins of your 24 pins on the side of the port, it will fit.
What if you want to alternate between using eGPU and iGPU? Do you need to install and uninstall drivers each time?
@@alexb5dh Hi, No you don t even need to disable igpu, you only disable it if you have issues, i am switching from igpu to gpu a lot, but occasionaly you would need to restart a second time.
The BIOS inside the SSD pretends to have 1 TByte of flash memory. It's necessary to write and read the full memory to verify the capacity. They are also capable of scamming actual test software! I have tested 2 SSDs from different suppliers and I got both times a refund. It's sad to see so many Chinese scammers out there. They spend so much time and efforts to design and produce fake products. Fun fact: You can also buy the raw parts to make your own fake SSDs, especially those controllers you need.
The boost worked! Able to get 90 fps. Problem tho got the cpu heat rose to 95 deg max. Is this ok?
@@cscs237 Hi, You will get the same FPS average with the CPU Boost disabled. 95 C is "NOT OK", this is the Maximum temperature before CPU throttling, The 6600H is limited to 95 C by it specification You are cooking your hardware, and conciderably jeopardize the lifespan of your Mini PC with such high temperature, i strongly advice you to disable CPU boost..
For my Mini PC is using Thunder Bolt 3 Cable connect, the result is very not stable, If iI Jump to NVME M2 Egpu will be more stable? please let me understand.
@@WickyMa-u3j Thunderbolt isn t by nature unstable compared to NVME M2, but NVME M2 will grant you a considerable performance boost depending of the game and setting because NVME M2 has a bigger bandwidth.
Can you review the Beelink SER 9 with an egpu pls, i wonder what fps you will get at cyberpunk,
best bang for buck is here
i have seen that you have many GMKtec Reviews, are you sponsored by GMKtec?
How would you rate this Mini PC compared to um890 with the 8945HS? does Minisforum is a safer buy, i am waiting for black friday sales for pulling the trigger but i won't mind paying a bit more for a better quality.
Does the K8 plus worth upgrading from Beelink SER 6 Pro, i am not interest in egpu, i am only looking for better gaming performance without buying graphic card, thanks you

@@azizimran8805 Thanks you, i appreciate, have a nice Week-end.
Hi, do you maybe know what the maximum refresh rate this model supports for 4k resolution?

ram 32 or 64g is better for this model?
@@jameskim5279 it won t change much in the majority of the games but in some games 64GB will make a difference like in Minecraft with heavy ressources pack and shaders also if you are editing with Davinci or Adobe then 64GB RAM will get you better editing performance, if you can afford to buy 64GB then go for 64GB, the AMD 8845HS is a powerful CPU, it will make a good use of these 64GB 😀
Do you connect the monitor from the graphic card or from the mini PC?

Yes, just as shown in the review, i wish it was less quiet as people have doubt that it is so quiet
A.I voice is horrible, i won(t bother watch your review, bye
Amazing little Pc, i like the idea of egpu to upgrade the graphic power, what other GPU u recommend?
What do i need to buy to connect to egpu i never done this before
@@scargamer0022 oh, i can t explain you everything in a single comment, but you don t need to buy something to connect to an egpu, the egpu comes with all the cable you need, you may need to buy a Power Supply Unit (PSU) to power your eGPU and GPU unless you buy an egpu like the Aoostar AG02 which have an integrated PSU. You can watch my Aoostar AG02 egpu & OCUP4 egpu video to get a better idea of how egpu works
Do you think it a good upgrade if I pair my laptop's ryzen 5 4600h with a egpu RTX 4070 or something and after using it for a while I would build a seperate pc
@@ishanayush1611 Hi, as you said that you are planning to build a new PC, The RTX 4070 can t possibly be a waste, The 4600H is PCIE 3 and a quite old CPU, so you can expect significant performance loss if you are using Thunderbolt type eGPU (20%-+30%) with PCIE 3 NVME or Oculink you can expect 15%-25% performance loss depending of the game, but the RTX 4070 is such a powerful GPU that you will even with performance loss have High/Max setting gameplay ecperience.
@Ghost-Keyboard Hey, thanks for the reply. Most probably I will be using nvme slot to use either directly or a converter to oculink as I don't have a thunderbolt port. Also do I need to change any BIOS settings for this?
@@ishanayush1611 i am glad to hear that my comment is helpful. About the Bios, you don t need to change anything, it should work on the go, you can watch my Oculink Friendly eGPU tutorial to get the complete step by step procedure for the setting of your NVME/Oculink eGPU, have fun 😄
Can I buy this from you? 🤑
@@E-thereal-V Hi, Sorry but i don t sell anything, why would you want to buy it from me?
Great video! Very helpful. I’m going to set this up almost identical to what you did. 3080, and m6. I’m going oculink, after some debate. Is there a way to add a 120 fan to the top by any chance? I can’t find an adapter, and I’m worried about power consumption. Any ideas?
@@GRIPPEDWAVES Hi, thanks you for your kind comment, 120mm fan won t fit in the M6 case, i am not sure about a 100mm fan but power wise it would work

is 400w enough for rtx 4080?
Hi, Yes it will work but it is not recommended, the RTX 4080 is supposed to underperform if small power burst happen, the RTX 4080 Super Power draw is 320 Watt, but remember that RTX 4080 SUPER is powered by 3 X PCIE 8 pin cable and that a 400 Watt PSU has only 2 X PCIE 8 pin, it would work if your EGPU powered by the 24 pin cable is already feeding 2 out of 3 of the RTX 4080 SUPER PCIE 8 pin cable, the third and last PCIE 8 pin cable could be directly pulled from the PSU. In my Oculink friendly tutorial video i think i had used a 450 Watt PSU
Can you try stable diffusion on this mini pc using your external gpu?
Hi, thanks you for the idea, i will include stable diffusion test in my next publication, that's a good idea
Thanks, i was looking for a review of this model.❤ awesome gamectedting FR
Will a 3090 work with this ? Enough power ?
@@ATLhighLIFE Hi, no it won t, the TDP of an RTX 3090 is 350 Watt, the Aoostar AG02 was design for GPU TDP up to 270W. with a 350 Watt PSU You ll need to buy the Aoostar MG02 that has a built in PSU of 550 Watt but the MG02 doesn t have a Thunderbolt Port, it worls only with Oculink
Nice video! Question, did you apply your temperature trick on this machine? I mean the one you used on the gmtec 6
@@nicolasguzman4957 Hi, thanks you for your question, you can see that during the game test the CPU temperature were around 70 C, i didn t apply my temperature trick during most of the game test, but after i have finished test i did apply the trick, it is always best to disable CPU bios even the Mini PC has a very good cooling design like this GEM 12, unless you need CPU Boost for CPU benchmark i don t see any reason to leave CPU Boost Performance in "Aggressive" mode in Windows power option.
@@Ghost-Keyboard thx for your answer. I’m getting this machine next week, so I’ll apply your trick. Last question, have you heard rumours about malaware on this machine?
@ No Aoostar is not related to the "Spyware Scandal", the brand that was compromised in the scandal is named "AceMagic" the detail of this scandal is that "AceMagic" got tricked by one of its component provider whom have installed the spyware and sold the batch production to "AceMagic" whom can be blame for not checking safety of the component they have bought. If you are paranoiac, or be reassured, you can either reinstall Windows or run a full virus scan of your system once you received your new device
I just received it and I tested it with a 7800xt + Legion go, keep in mind that you need to use both USB ports. One for EGPU and one for charging, otherwise it won't work. I'm going to try with a 4080 super. When the power supply is disconnected it takes a while to cool down and you should wait a few minutes before turning it off.
@@rethBuddy Hi, i don t have this issue with my Mini PC, it s a shame that your legion go has only one single USB 4 port used as charging port, in this case 2 USB 4 port should be mandatory. I didn t get what is your issue with the PSU, are you refering to the AGO2 plex internal PSU? You still have the possibility to use an external PSU if you encounter an issue with the internal PSU which is something not normal, if that is the case you should contact Aoostar and ask for a refund
@@Ghost-Keyboard PSU burned out :(
I hope the PCB still works to test with an External PSU
@@rethBuddy i am sorry to hear that, have you contacted Aoostar,? You must have received a faulty unit, you deserve to get a refund. I strongly suggest you to contact Aoostar support and ask for a refund or a replacement unit.
@@Ghost-Keyboard the PCB did not burn and I connected it to a bequiet platinum psu and it works better because I take advantage of the higher wattage of the psu

@@aekprm435 Excellent! Can you confirm me that your unit is as quiet as mine? Noise level and Cooling design are really the key features of this mini PC model with the low CPU temperature under stress environement and the dead silent fan RPM
@Ghost-Keyboard is very quiet indeed.

I was thinking about a Minisforum 780M XTX , now i am thinking about this model, because the miniforum is barebone only and more expensive, thank you GhostKeyboard 😁
The GMKtec K8 PLUS is a better deal, and the Minisforum UM780 has a lower CPU spec
We have sale fow gem12 just 300usd barebone
Looks almost exactly the same as the cheap M7 (6850h) model. Btw, if you put stuff on top of the machine, you can break the lid, I think. I did put self adhesive furniture leg pads to the four corner of the top black plastic. The thinner 3mm felt type fits perfectly, doesn't interfere with the transparent lid and it supports the weight of stuff put top of the machine :)

M7 vs k8?
@@jhonanderflores1006 the K8 has a more powerful CPU with the AMD 8845HS which is in the Top mobile AMD CPU, so the K8 Plus will outperform the M7, but i get your request, we don t know how much better will the K8 Plus be compared to the M7, it s a good topic for a video, thanks you for the idea. But actually i was thinking about comparing the K8 Plus with the GEM 12 which have a similar CPU, after this K8 Plus review i can say that those 2 models are very close to each other but the K8 Plus beat the GEM 12 at Time Spy and it is extraordinary Quiet, but i need to do more test than just 3DMark.
@Ghost-Keyboard I understand, I would like you to make a comparison but with an eGPU, I need to know if those extra $100 for the k8 would be worth it
@ I totally get it, i think some games tested in the K8 PLUS have also been tested in the M7 review, it may not be some solide references as thiose 2 models have been tested with different eGPU and it is not as good as a side by side game test but still you can get a glimpse of an idea of the performance difference, i think there is not much difference overall
@@Ghost-Keyboard M7 pro (6950h) is even more close to K8 plus (8845hs) than the M7 (6850h). M7 pro has higher cpu and igpu clock speed. But sure, 8845hs should outperform those M7 variants. M7 gets 13k points in cinebench r23 multicore. I already have two m7 and a k8 plus is on my way :) I think I will make a homelab cluster from the three machines. Usb4 ports can be used as thunderbolt p2p network with a simple cable between machines. I got 12.5Gbps real bandwith between two m7 under ubuntu. Fow AI stuff, 780m may have better AI support than 680m, but on windows LM Studio was able to use 680m too, but had similar result like its cpu based performance.
The 100-dollar difference is justified by two reasons: 1. The performance of the processor and integrated graphics card is 25% higher. 2. The compatibility with the AI of the K8 Pro processor provides an advantage in terms of performance, efficiency, and future applications, making this computer more scalable.
is it worth spending extra to get the 32gb ram version, or will it be enough for the future? my main idea of usage is console emulation and office work
@@sepharg if you plan to use an EGPU the answer is "Yes" but most of all get RAM r1 X8 NOT a RAM with r1 X16, you will gain conciderable boost with r1 X8 RAM with this Mini PC
@Ghost-Keyboard not planning to use EGPU. Do you mean the 16gb one comes with 2x8 modules or 1x16? If it's the latter maybe I can upgrade in the future. and also, 16gb would be enough for the integrated GPU to perform well for light and retro gaming up to Switch?
@ Hi, the GMKtec M6 comes with r1 X 16., if you plan to play light gaming and emulation then you don t need 32 GB RAM, you ll be fone with 16 GB RAM
@@Ghost-Keyboard many thanks for you fast response:) much appreciated. And great video btw, it's the best and most thorough in TH-cam
is thunderbolt and usb 4 different? if yes and usb 4 is faster then thunderbolt, is it fast enough to have almost the same speed with m.2 or not?
@@jaskier5586 Hi, Thunderbolt is a protocol that is build with USB 4, All Thunderbolt Connection are USB 4 but not all USB 4 support Thunderbolt, but in a very large number USB 4 support Thunderbolt 4 which is under Intel License. No Thunderbolt can not match an NVME speed as Thunderbolt is 40GB/s data transfer speed and NVME is 64GB/s speed, however as you have seen in my test Thunderbolt in the majority of games will not be that far from NVME type and is still a very good option to upgrade your system graphic performances.

Interesting, i thought Oculink was special, but it is equal to NVME
How did you do that? That technique only works on Intel processors.
@@أبوناصرالقاسمي-غ1ع Hi Sir, AMD is also supporting TB4/TB3 if they pay Intel the Thunderbolt License, all USB 4 can technically support Thunderbolt 4 Have a nice day 😃
Great comparison! I used a TB3 eGPU in 2017 and performance was pretty good everywhere but then I built a gaming PC. Returned to TB3 in 2024 and found that some games tank performance like Forza Horizon 5 here while others are OK, just a bit slower like CP2077 and GOW. Got an Oculink PCIe4 x4 as a fun tester and it delivers consistent performance in all games unlike like TB3 (Hogwarts Legacy and others). Good to know NVMe is just as good as Oculink.
Yes, you are correct, it all depend of the game, some games will take advantages of the 64GB/s Oculink data transfer speed and will deliver more FPS at the exit point, but some less demanding games will do just fine with the 40GB/s Thunderbolt speed.
