That was my favorite spot at the gorge. Honestly I have taken that trail over 150 times. I have slept up there many nights in my younger years. It used to take 45 minutes to walk, the trail you took actually evolved over time and was not always available. I dont want to sound full of myself but we kind of paved the way for that shorter trail. We used to take that route down from cloudsplitter because we had an old garmin gps 3 plus monochrome unit lol. Back when hand held gps 1st came out. The GPS showed us how close we actually were to the road. Lots of downed trees on that slope so we chose to follow the path that the water made on its way down the hill because it was so overgrown back in 1998. Thank you for sharing this video, I miss that place and your video blog took me back there. Seriously, thanks for posting this. By the way if you ever return, there is a natural overhang at the base of a cliff not far off the trail where Indians carved a bowl shape into the stone floor and they also bored a hole for crushing food with a stick. I am sure its probably well overgrown by now, we camped there so often it was findable back then but that all ended around 2001.

Lol my experience was extremely different. There is another side that has a rope hooked to a solo tree stump atop cloud splitter. Somehow we made it off alive. Good to know there is a backdoor. Thanks!

Thank you for this video! It's the best one I've found for CS. My husband and I have tried to hike up twice now, but couldn't find the cave and the ropes were down on the rock...so we've turned back at the saddle twice without getting to the top. We're going to change that in a few days. ;)

I just did Indian Staircase last weekend having NO idea what i was getting myself into. Im not great with heights but i pushed through and made my way to the top. That feeling was incredible. Can't wait to do it again

Fun times in the Cohut. 1:06 Little Rough Creek crossing? 1:43 Hickory Creek/Conasauga trail campsite (just below Connie crossing #19). That sign behind you has been stolen and it's gone. 2:45 That weird "pond" near Bray Field. 3:46 Looks like you're on the Panther trail as the sign is behind you (the jct of Panther with Connie). 4:14 Creek blowdowns always suck and this one blocks the Panther Creek trail on the other side of the Connie. (Visible at 4:15 where Panther Creek flows into Conasauga). 5:32 I seem to remember 5 or 6 Panther Creek crossings. 5:50 The beginning of the Panther Creek Hell Nut climb! Have to hand it to you guys---climbing that rock garden in snow with no previous bootprints ain't easy. It's hard to follow this steep haul even without snow. 6:15 What! Where are you camped? 7:51 Looks like you made it to the campsites above the falls. 7:55 Your speech---Welcome to my backpacking world! 8:45 I always carry pruners and a folding saw and stop to clear this kind of crap.

Love the Cohuttas, really looks spectacular with the snow! The climb up to Panther Creek Falls is challenging in the best of weather, I wouldn't want to try it in the snow lol.

The Cohutta looks really nice with all that snow. I was on the Panther Creek Trail in the summer and still got lost on that trail. It was at the point where I went from the bluff over the falls down the bluff -- that's where I couldn't follow the trail, on the way down. I eventually found it somewhere near the bottom. You guys are brave!

You all should do a video along the parklands on the louisville loop from broad run to beckley creek! Love the vids

I hope you enjoy this video. By the time we got back to the car, I was too tired to shoot a proper ending. We were supposed to be out for three days, but the snow and trail conditions caused us to cut things short.

My dad had a friend/ neighbor who helped with a dig of an old Indian village that was on the banks of the creek in the early 1970s. It was supposed to be only a few hundred yards from the bridge into the old pope lick park soccer fields off Old Taylorsville Rd. There used to be a farmhouse further back past the parking lot. I think they renamed the road since the Shell station was built on that side of Taylorsville Rd. to Pope Lick Rd. (opposite from the Trestle). I ran around back there in my younger years with a few friends in the early 1980s, never saw the cave back then, it probably was on the farm in the back. The dig items were donated to the Museum according to my dad's friend. Arrowheads can be found up and down that creek in both directions.
