If the update knows you are looking for it it will hide. Only go looking for it in the goodbye screen when you are ready to press it because on a second attempt it will have gone. You only need to leave the car an hour so for it to come back. Usual deceiptful response that we get from pretty much all call centres these days to 'wait a week and come back' just to get rid of you for a bit.
and what about during an electirc storm?
I'd rather it work like a filling station, swipe a credit card, plug it in the charge port and fill it up.
My daily commute is 16 miles (ca. 26 km) round trip, I only have access to level one at my apartment and it works great. I plug in when I get home and by morning I'm ready to go. This video is one of the few that recommends level 1 charging, most don't. Some go as far as to say, “don't buy and EV if you can't level 2 charge at home." Good video. Thank you.
It’s all about your daily commute. You’re welcome!
Could I only use level one charging? Yes, I could, but I don't need or want to. My problem is they changed the cord that comes with the Leaf to a level two cord. The first time I needed it and I can't plug it in. I could plug in a 110v cord. Right now, I have a battery charger connected to the 12v battery under the hood. Thing is I don't know if ANY of this power will make it to the main battery, and I don't dare to try to get the car home. It is only a couple miles, but I don't want to need another tow. When I turn it on it says it needs a charge and would only work on reduced power. If it told me it has one percent I would be thrilled, because I would be sure I would get home where I have always done all of my charging. And there I have level 2.
That's like my 4runner 2.57 for 15 miles of range what a ripoff
I love my 22 ID.4 Pro S To tell you the truth, I don’t really even care about the software. I use CarPlay and never really mess with anything else. Anyway, Experience everything the same you did. That yellow light etc after I think it updated…Hit break it went away. The only difference is I haven’t been receiving notifications lately in the apps Inbox. I’ll get notifications on my phone like charging sessions started or stopped, or my door is unlocked. But not in that app envelope inbox. I haven’t cared up to now because I never really pay attention to those notifications when it worked, but because I haven’t been receiving anything in there, I have no idea if the car actually did its update. You saw it tell you in there it updated but since I am not receiving any notifications in that inbox, I have no idea if mine updated. When you click on ID Software icon, mine says your vehicle has ID software 3.1.0 still. Even after a dealership update a few months back those numbers never changed after they did an update. I reported that to the service mgr and the guy had no idea what I was talking about. I explained to the guy after a software update, if the version number doesn’t change, how are you supposed to know if the software updated. What ID. Software version does your car say after this update? Thanks for info and posting this video. I love your channel!
Ha ha 16:55 - a Prius Prime Platinum Glow (yes, that's what Toyota calls this silver paint). This is exactly 'our' previous car before getting a Ioniq 5. Good car - no range anxiety because it's a PHEV. Anyway - not really sure why they're charging unless it's a free level 2. P.S. My experience, ChargePoint seems to have given up. More often than not, chargers are offline or entirely broken/vandalized.
Wow, what an impressive charging station. Hope we see something like this in British Columbia. Glad to see another happy ID.4 owner.
what i wish every charging station had is a bug scraper/wash brush with squeegee and a trash can.
figure out how to make a battery that lasts longer, and a car charger that charges faster and electric cars will ACTUALLY become useful. you don’t need to make a comfortable place and keep the current technology, you need to upgrade everything and finally fix those 2 big problems.
Electric vehicles are already useful for over 50% of US population. Battery life is already long enough because we change vehicles every 4-8 years or less. We charge at home overnight taking under a minute to plug-in. Range is already far greater than my required bathroom breaks so I charge during these breaks adding little to no extra time on road trips. Our household only has EVs and I’ll never own another ICE vehicle in my life time.
Are you making a video on a Tesla to CCS1 adapter for NACS? If not, any suggestions?
In the next couple months I will. For now, I can say that I’ve heard that the A2Z NACS to CCS1 adapter is very good. Apparently, A2Z also has good customer service. That is the one I’ll end up getting once NACS opens to VW.
@@goneelectric Thank you so much!
Level one charging is adequate for most drivers. Because most people are parked for 22 hours a day anyway. And if the management trusts you, then we've got the app you can use to track your usage. No special hardware required ✅
Wow. what complete and total garbage. (not your video, its great) How hard would it have been to have a progress bar in the cars sccreen. or a even a flashing led somewhere that goes solid when complete.. Or have it move the mirrors from the park position to the drive position. literally anything that indicates completed. And having to factory reset the car? to get the app to work? come on? i know that might not be a big deal for some people.. but if you have spent time getting your settings customized, to lose all that because of crappy upgrade software really sucks. Thanks for making the video.
Ha, great comment. I agree, it’s totally ridiculous, and it should be embarrassing for VW. The lack of forethought and disregard for the customer experience is sad. You’re welcome, and thanks for watching!
Do you think the full mini grocery store makes sense at location in the city? I feel like this would be good for a random exit on the way to Vegas
I’d love to see one out towards Vegas off the 15 freeway. It’d also be great close to the Grand Canyon, where there’s a dearth of charging and services.
Thank You Everybody for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 ✌ ☮ ❤
If I have to download another damn APP, and creat another damn profile, I refuse to charge or do any business there. I just want to trade money for a service, and be on my way. why there are so many companies so hellbent on making APP barriers on trade boggles my mind.
We need Rove on the East Coast. Please consider Florida.
These first few locations will serve as proof-of-concept. If they work, I think they will expand all over.
$0.58/kWh seems expensive. Are energy prices very high here? Rove needs battery storage to reduce utility demand fees.
It is a bit more on the expensive side, but I think a lot of people will gladly pay it in exchange for reliable charging, which seems to be hard to find.
I think the point is, from a functionality standpoint point this is a much more reliable experience than all the rest, that’s what everyone has been complaining about right. I’ve never been to an EA site with a manager, so this is a step closer to that “don’t have to think about it” experience.
Finally a charger with a handle !!!!
Gelson's equals high dollar.
I am currently in a hybrid and hope to upgrade to an EV next year. This type of charging station will go much further toward people purchasing EV's than government mandates. Thank you for a very informative YT. I did subscribe and thumbs up. Bill
You’re very welcome. Hopefully videos like this one reduce the learning curve a bit once you switch to EV. Thank you and welcome aboard!

Did you try the free wifi?
I did not. Assuming it does work though, the lounge would be great for working while charging. Lots of outlets as well.
I need to flyout and give it a try! Subscribed as well!
Yes, spread the word! Thanks, and right back at you!
Woot!!
The future is surly no app and decent coffee.
Quick clarification at 12:32. You can view charger availability on the app by tapping 'Centers' and then tapping the active pin for the station you're currently at.
I am new here and you have a great channel and did a great job with a nice easy report!!! Hope you are enjoying your ID4!
Welcome to the channel! Thank you, I appreciate that! Love the ID4.
This is what charging should be. They need to open these across the US not just in the OC and the South Bay. However the only issue would be that charging operations are constantly changing. Eventually all this will will need to be replaced with induction charging which will be the future. And charge speeds will increase so that you won’t need to spend 10-60 mins at a place like this so many amenities won’t be needed. But I guess we live in the present and for now it would be great to see them expand nationwide. Sort of like a Buccees for EVs only!
Couldn’t say it better myself!
$ 0.58 per kwh😬.
I wonder if they have different rates for time of use like most SCs
You made a mistake!! You can definitely see how many of each charger is available! You just go to the “centers” tab and tap on the location you want and it will show what’s available!!!
You’re right! I missed this. Glad that the app does show this. Thanks for pointing this out!
Very cool! Might take a while to make it to the Midwest, but like it a lot.
It’s awesome how much thought went into this. These initial sites are proof of concept, but hopefully they expand.
Great video. Thanks. Why is Tesla so slow to activate V4 dispenser magic docks?
I don’t have a good answer. It’s very frustrating though.
Magic dock useless here because Tesla app does enable it. So frustrating.
According to Rove management, they eventually will enable it. Just don’t know when.
Cables were replaced because original ones were only 200 amps.
Good to know!
Thats great. When I first got my electric car I had never used a public charger and it would have been nice to have that extra knowledge to assist. thanks for the video
You’re welcome! Same here, which is why I started this channel. Figured people could use some help.
Would be nice to see volts and amps.
Agreed. I’m assuming they will add that as they continue to update the app.
Maybe. But I suspect ABB needs to make data available. In my travels ABB stations have not shown current and voltage, though other brands do.
Not for me .. Will stick with hybrid
That’s fair.

I went to the Grand Opening and was very impressed. Now is the proof of concept period. The Rove team is very responsive to suggestions/criticisms so I expect things will only improve going forward. I live in Costa Mesa so I'm anxious to utilize that facility when it is on line.
I agree- the fact that management is so responsive is incredibly valuable. They seem to really want people to have a great experience. Looking forward to that Costa Mesa install myself!
Do they have any drive through chargers for a cybertruck and trailer?
Unfortunately not. This was a miss that I’m hoping they’ll remedy on future sites.
I wonder if they can make the money on the store to pay for all the extra services. I’m the type who sits in the car while charging, maybe walk around a little and I go for the cheapest locations. I’m not interested in paying extra for services I never use.
Opposed to gas station like stores, that Gelson’s looks extremely fuller. It looks more like a one stop to go shopping and to charge as opposed to charging on the road where you just wanna get a quick bite. So it is a different dynamic and we’ll have to see how it works.
@@MikeRadioNY yes. I’m not against it. If there’s a market for this I think it’s great and I wish them good luck.
Need to get better music in that store.
I thought the same thing.
Thanks for making this video. I’ll be going to Los Angeles next week and wanted to check out this location. I was disappointed that, though I heard in the initial videos on this location, they had magic dock, but when I looked on the Tesla app, it was not enabled. Thank you for the clarification of the software issues that Tesla is having. I was kind of disappointed that though they claim fast charging they will have only two chargers that are 350 kW and 10 chargers that are 180 kW. I know from many cars that may not be a problem but I have a Taycan and appreciate the higher speed. My concern is that those 350 kW chargers will be used by vehicles that are not able to utilize the speed as happens at Electrify America when there’s a mix of 350s and 150s. I’m very much appreciating that Electrify America is generally putting in all 350s balance power for their new installs. That really simplifies things. Hopefully Rove will consider this in their next two installations.
I was a bit surprised by this as well. I’m assuming that they intended the Tesla V4 magic docks to serve a bulk of the faster charging cars, but the Tesla software snafu has complicated things. I’m assuming (hoping) that they’ll install more 350s on future build-outs. Give this one a try though. It’s still quite impressive.
Great video. Looking forward to checking Rove out for myself soon.
Thanks! I’m confident this place will be a hit.
I cannot wait to get rid of my ID4 2022 next year (2025). The software is absolutely atrocious and VW promises of consistent software updates has been a lie. So much so, VW have abandoned all but 2024+ owners. Any ID4 up to 2024 will not be supported by the latest firmware 4.0 according to VW (will try to find the source for this information). Ive had so many faults including both screens going blank whilst I was driving on the motorway at 70mph amongst other issues. Will get either a BMW i4 or Rivian. Im absolutely done with VW.
The software disappoints me too, as does the lack of updates as promised. Customer service has been very helpful for handling technical issues- but it’s sad that it would come to that for something as simple as an OTA update. Sorry to hear about experience and I hope you have better luck with another make. I think they announced the 4.0 software at the ID7 unveiling, which is when they mentioned that model years older than 2024 won’t be supported by it. Apparently, they’ll still send out updates to software 3.0 users… we’ll see if that happens.
