I had a Honda Elite 150. Even in Washington to Oregon commute crossing the I-5 bridge where the speed limit was 55, I felt unsafe. I can't even imagine why one would take any 150cc onto a freeway for anything but a very short distance. (Mine was less than 3 miles.) I later upgraded to a Yamaha Virago 250, and even then I did not feel very safe, although it would get up to 70 mph. Only took about a year of that, and moved to a Kawasaki Vulcan 500. That was when I could feel as safe as you can with the cagers on the freeway.

the only good thing thats happened to me lately is my bikes are still on the ground but they are now under cover and not just under a tent. and as soon as i find out about my Taxes i hope to have a slab under them. went from about 120k a year to 9k of the year over night. and cant seem to get back up. when i had my stroke in 2009 i had over 160k in the back to pretty much do what ever i wanted to. not counting what i had in Mads Trucking. and if i had known then what i know now i would have took all my money out and put it in another bank and told them to come get everything. they couldn't hurt my credit no worse. i went from a 850 the highest that they read to a 430 the lowest they score. all over one truck that i owed 14k on and only had it 9 months and gave 60k for it so i was way ahead on my notes.

I been doing research on different kind motorbikes on this hold weekend Mr. Aaron and it`s hard because of money problems and financial and started new year and finishing paying on my IRS every since in 2012 from 401k!!

Having to put down a trusted and dear family member like a dog is the worst thing I’ve ever had to decide and experience. So although I love animals, especially dogs, I’ve never had another pet since then (1994). I simply couldn’t bear to go through that experience again. That’s why I live alone, so I never have to lose anyone ever again.

Regarding winter sunshine, although the sun is lower in the sky during winter, it is typically, especially Houston, much less humid in winter, so what sun there is is less filtered. I'm from MN, and we call this effect, which begins in fall, "crisp" weather.

The bit about modern cars made me chuckle. I have this conversation with my wife nearly weekly. I just sold my 2017 F-150 as part of our travel-trailer RV system to purchase a camper van, in part because the 3.5L twin-turbo, twin-cam, 32 valve, VVT, port and direct fuel injected engine was beginning to worry me with how many ways it was possible for it to break. I replaced it, in the end, with an 11-year-old, 27k mile, non-turbo, 5sp manual Chevy Sonic, for all the reasons you mention. It was 11 years old because they don't make/sell cars like that any more. Why? In large part because of the EPA. A car like that would have to return 50+ mpg or be fined something like $5k per vehicle. The required mpg formula has wheel-base X track in its denominator, so bigger vehicles are hit less (fun fact: the Ford Maverick is much longer/wider than the old/2011 Ranger for this reason) for required mpg as well as being more expensive to start: $5k added to a $15k vehicle is 33%, as opposed to 6.25% on an $80k vehicle. And, the OEM makes much more money on an $80k vehicle than a $15k one, so "everybody" (who matters to them) wins. Never mind pollution equipment. Cars were clean enough around the year 2000, 2010 at the latest. Everything past that is a waste of money, time, and effort. And all this is even before you get into NHTSA requiring 6 airbags and who-knows what else for, weight-adding, safety equipment. I had a 1986 Mazda 323 I bought new whose rear quarter I could manually lift into the air (I'm a small guy). It weight something like 2000# in total due to no airbags, etc. Get rid of the overboard regulation and cars will become cheaper, simpler, more reliable, and more fuel efficient.

I find that watching your commute on these “entertaining” Interstates while sipping a fine 15 year old single malt is very therapeutic 🥃

I'm a fellow IT contractor here in the UK. You are spot on, but its dangerous on a bike in the UK the congestion and bad driving is to blame. That said public transport is pretty good so I use that, my wife commutes by car ( a Renault Captur 0.9 litre small SUV) so you have to do what works for you. I totally agree about the excessive tech in vehicles, its spyware!

Mileage here in Eastern, NE is easily 30-40k a year if not more. Long highways, interstates, etc.

10:51 I have an ‘04 Honda Pilot and still love it with 210K miles. I do my own maintenance and just did a top end plenum clean out. The intake valves looked clean (I use Lucas fuel additive monthly) and I cleaned out the intake plenum ports, replaced the NGK plugs, spark plug tube seals and valve cover seals. My next project will be a new timing belt, hydraulic tensioner, and water pump. Just my own opinion, but I will do anything to avoid purchasing a new vehicle. You get mauled with by the prices, depreciation, insurance, and personal property taxes. And you always walked away from the dealer feeling as if they did you without any lube. 😱

Credit cards and that whole credit score system is modern-day slavery in my eyes people just don't realize it 😅 feels great not to be in that system anymore.
