    In your case after 30k rounds being put through the gun, the gun is getting worn out. It may be time to retire it. Or sell it. Also a lot of guys will put a plastic buffer pin replacing the metal one. Which cuts down on receiver wear.

    My very first NV Device was a monocular in a nice housing with a sticker with the words “night explorer” on it. When I got inside it I found a 42mm IIT that had been repotted and was much shorter than your Mx-9644 by maybe half the length. It also was hardwired using the old power wires jumpers to power the tube and wired to the power switch (which just recently broke). There’s no marking on it and it’s inside a white colored shell but it’s definitely a gen 2 green Phos tube and is in great shape. I’m trying to find out if this really is a MX-9644. And then I’m trying to find a custom housing for it that has a dovetail mount built into the housing for helmet /hands free use.

    Nice video, something to look at is that when bolt shuts, the outer part of the extractor rides in the barrel slot to actually open the extractor, let it pass over the brass then closes on case. This prevents the extractor from firing the round accidentally

    Yes, the vise was pulling out heat. However, you did not temper anything. First, a part is heated and rapidly cooled completely to harden. That is hardening. Tempering is when you reheat to a set temp to give the steel strength. If left fully hard, it will be very brittle. In this case, this is not an issue as you allowed the part to cool far too much before adding any coolant, (which was far too little coolant to work), and far too long in the cooling before being applied. What y actually did here it annealed the steel. In other words, you softened it. Further heat was applied too long and this causes loss of carbon which lowers the steels ability to harden. Next time, try this. with a low cost pair of needle nose pliers, hold as little of the base as possible. Apply heat just long enough to go to orange which is appx. 1475 deg f. Immediately drop into oil. Do NOT allow it to lose the color before dropping it into th oil. Allow it to cool completely in the oil. Once retrieved from the oil, mediately place in a pre-heated oven at 425 deg. for 1 hour. Two is better! Allow to air cool. No forced air. This will draw the brittleness from the steel and lower the Rockwell C hardness down to apx. 56 hrc. This is tempering. Straight from the oil cooling was hardening. Very high HRc number in the neighborhood of 64 her. Very brittle. Unless you allowed it to cool before it was dropped into coolant. Simply dripping coolant on the hot part will do nothing but induce stress into the steel. So essentially what was done here was the part was both softened, with hard spots causing stress risers making it far inferior to what it was before any heating. Hope this helps! When I first bought my 1022 way back in the early 2000,s I had two ten round mags and very quickly bought a BX25 as well. (I also own two BX15 mags). The ten rounders never skipped a beat, and for a long time the rifle would happily eat and cycle anything I put through it. It worked flawlessly with Eley subsonics too (I live in the UK). However....the BX25 would endlessly cause issues with stovepiping and failures to eject, even with CCI minimags. I noted the 'wobble' of the inserted mag, compared to the ten round mags, also exacerbated by the extra leverage on the long mag body. So, I took some sniper tape and my trusty pocket knife and cut and stuck a couple of layers of the tape, carefully 'fitted' around the top of the mag where it enters the rifle. It was then a really snug fit but still very easy to insert or remove. I loaded up.....mag dumped and "Hey Presto!" No more jams!! I never had to do anything else, it just fixed the issue straight off. Interestingly, the BX15 mags work as well as the ten round mags and seldom if ever cause issues.....depending on the ammo. There has however been an interesting change in behaviour in that one day, a long time ago now, I went out and bought a new batch of Eley subsonics (rabbit hunting/pest control in a sensitive area with a moderator fitted!) and this time, I had endless issues with all the mags!! I can only assume that Eley had changed their recipe somehow and these bullets no longer performed reliably in my semi auto. Other subsonic makes were better, although the issues went away completely when reverting to good old CCI minimags. The only issue being the noise level increased hugely! The basic issue of padding out the top of the mag worked a treat and every so often, after a lot of work ( thousands of rounds and hundreds of insertions) I would just freshen up the tape with replacement pieces and back to great reliability. Since then, I have plonked the 1022 action into an Arthur E Brown M1 carbine stock and also with two new ten round mags, added the 'look alike' M1 carbine dummy plastic mags that epoxy onto the base of the ten round mag. They look fantastic and they hugely help with loading and removing a standard ten round mag. My primary pest control rifle is now an M&P1522 and that has just had a new Volquartsen ejector fitted for the same damn reason!! It now runs like a sewing machine and cycles and ejects everything! 😊 Great video and great high speed stuff showing the bolt bounce too!! If they could eliminate that as it closes, the rifle would be even better!

  • @schubi128
    @schubi128 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Very thorough analysis 👍. A new extractor might be a good idea if Failures to eject happen, although something to prevent the Mag from wiggling. Although the tape on the side of the Mag usually helps I think thats not the right place to put tape on because then it depends on the stock to stabilize the Mag in the receiver and the room the stock gives the Mag varies from Stock to Stock. I had the Idea to put some small tape stripes left and right on top of the Mags (on the narrow ridge just before the round portion on the right side and the metal portion on the left starts). This prevents wiggling completely and because this ridges with the tape stripe on it are making solid contact to the receiver it is completely independent from the kind of stock someone uses. Regarding the wear on the receiver: I doubt that the bolt has no play when it's new, because mine has just 5000 rounds through it and it has some play. Since I did not check it when the gun was new I can't be 100% sure but it's quite unlikely that just 5000 rounds are causing that kind of wear, especially because mine was always lubed and reasonable clean.

    A very good video. I would like to add that the side to side movement should be taken out of each mag, not the stock of the gun. The mags should fit well even without the stock on. It is the left hand outer ‘lip’ of the BX25 mags that differ on each mag as they are a very cheap production mag. By putting tape on the non ejector side of the mag (test fix) you will find they tighten up and align correctly. A very informative and well produced video. Thank you.
