Duh it puts out Twice the btu on high….
Can you buy a 45 elbow for this?
You can buy flexible pipe sections on the internet, but not at Camp Chef, the best I can see. Rick
thanks I will buy another one try again .I like outdoor a lot freezen cold
The Big Buddy heater with the 20 lb. tank is my number one way to stay warm here in Colorado, but I'm working hard to test other wood stoves to make that my new heat source. Rick
Is that smells?
I never smell anything when using them, other then a little when hooking up or unhooking the cannisters or hose. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
Yeah no 😂 I’m getting too old for this sh*t
I feel the same way sometimes. Mike has a nice RV, but I think it takes him longer to set it up then it takes me to set up the tent. Someday I'll find something that is easy to setup, but for now, I'm hanging out in my tent. Rick
Watch out for carbon monoxide
You're absolutely correct. That's why I always have to vents open in my tent and have a CO2/O2 detector with me. Rick
What didn’t we know about this concept ? It’s a bigger heater of course it’s gona be hotter
The test was not about which heater would be hotter. It was to show how well they would do in sub-freezing weather, and what temperatures you could expect inside a canvas tent. Rick
Where did you get that stove fan? I have one on my buddy heater but it’s a lot larger and requires a plate to sit on, that one you have is very nice. I used mine for the first time this week and it makes a difference.
I bought it on Amazon. See the link below. Signstek Wood Stove Fan: amzn.to/40NlViz Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
@ Thanks Rick, I will pick one up!
When you use them indoors do you vent by opening a door or window? Have you had any problems with carbon monoxide?
I always keep two small vents open on both sides of the tent, no matter how cold, plus I have a CO2/O2 detector. Rick
Would you recommend using this in a car if you keep the windows cracked for ventilation?? I have no heat and I'm in -2 degree weather! And I drive all day in my car for work! I can't stay in that weather all day anymore! I've been using hand, body, and feet warmers but it barely does anything.
I've seen a lot of people use these in a confined or closed environment and not have any issues, but I always recommend (and do this myself) to keep a window cracked for fresh air and keep a CO2/O2 sensor with you. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
@mikenrickoutdoors 👍
Your apple pie looks good!
It's even better when camping in freezing temperatures outside. Rick
Nice scenery
Cheesman Canyon is a beautiful place to fish and there's a great hiking trail along the river. Rick
Thank you sir and God bless you and your family and America 🇺🇸
Thank you for the thumbs up. Rick
watching your video - I am interested in the Natural Atlas app but have not see further updates?
I haven't done any more reviews on the Natural Atlas App, but I'm glad you brought this up and I'll shoot some more videos covering it, but I'll upload those videos on my Outdoor Emergency Tech channel. @@mikenrickoutdoors Thanks....look forward to it...and thanks for responding.
@@mikenrickoutdoors Thanks....look forward to it...and thanks for responding.
Do you ventilate the tent? If so, how much ?
I have two small vents at the top of the tent on each side, and they unzip about 4 inches, plus I'll unzip about 6 inches in a window near my head. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
Do you sleep all night with it on? Do you get any readings or warnings on gas monitor? Thanks
@@dbloneproductions I do if it’s cold enough. I find the high setting is too much for any tent I own though. So I run it on low usually. I don’t have gas gauges tho. Just when it runs out I replace the bottle.
I do sleep with my heaters on all night. I have at least two vents open on my tent up high, and normally one window slightly open near my face, plus I have the CO2/O2 sensor. I have never had any issues or alerts. Rick
It's so cold here in Colorado during the winter that I run the Big Buddy on high all night, plus it's hooked up to a 20 lb. tank. The 20 lb. tanks only last about 1.5 days when It's so cold that I use them day and night, so I have plenty of tanks and hook up a new one every night so it doesn't run out at night, then I use the partial tanks during the day. Rick
How long does a tank of propane last?
It depends on what setting you run it on. What I do know is if you're running it on High it lasts me about 1.5 days. I will do some additional tests to see how long it will last on all settings. I want to be clear though that I will be testing this on the Big Buddy heater. Rick
The number to Big Buddy uses way too much gas I hook a 20 lb cylinder to my little buddy heater and it lasted longer and who needs it at 80
It seems challenging to hook up the hose to the little buddy as it is meant to sit right on top of a cannister. How do you set this up to keep the Little Buddy sitting upright? Rick
This is safe to use indoors ?
I have never had any issues in all of my camping trips, but I do keep a few small vents open to keep some air flowing through the tent, plus I have a CO2 and O2 sensor with me. Rick
@mikenrickoutdoors I was burned as a child and I am so scared of using any kind of heater but especially gas/kerosene ones. Would you say these heaters a safe. I live in an older home that we are trying to fix up. Which means at this time I need to buy a non electric heater. I just want to make sure they are safe for indoor use.
Most people say they are safe, and that is my opinion also, however, I would always make sure you have some fresh air circulating and a CO2/O2 detector. I am starting to test out diesel heaters that you can place outside or in some place like a garage, and run a hose into your tent or house. I have just begun testing these but it may be worth looking at. Rick
Thank you for sharing, thomas buoyant, red gold, blue silver , perch , for late afternoon in san diego area lakes
Glad to help. Let us know how you do. Rick
Got it ! ! Lets go
Absolutely! Rick
Can you lounge with the foam in it?
I haven't tried it but I suspect you can with the fitted sheet, but the foam pad would probably slide down unless you secured it better. My thoughts are if I wanted to set it up as a lounge chair, I would take the foam off. Rick
Do you have a drain on your cooler? I just bought a lifetime cooler and there’s no drain
Interesting. Yes, my cooler does have a drain. Rick
What size outboard are you running on the video? 9.9hp?
It's an 18 HP motor. See the link below for the one Mike has. Hangkai 18HP Outboard Motor: amzn.to/3ObWPVk Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
Bluetooth ? I wonder if it can be linked to kestrel or other balistic device
There was no Bluetooth on it. You may want to contact Maven directly on the linking to other devices. Rick
the filter is really not needed with the Mr.Heater hose, which does not have a rubber liner, rubber hose ones for grills are OK as the oil leached does not block the pilot orifice.
This was some of the first tests on the Big Buddy I shot, and since then, I have found out that the hose with the regulator is the best way to go. Good call. Thanks for the comment. Rick
Do you have a risk of monoxide poisoning?
I guess there's always a risk for anything, but I keep two vents open in my tent, even in the coldest weather here in Colorado, plus I have a CO2 / O2 Sensor, and have never had any issues. Rick
Its made for indoor use. Burns @ 99%
Strange question I thought you weren't supposed to put the propane tank indoors
I made a mistake the first time I used it, but I always put the tank outside my tent now. Good catch. The other thing you should have is a CO2 / O2 detector. Rick
Do you put portable heater ?
I have been using several heating sources from Mr Heaters to a wood stove, depending on the time of year and how long I'll be out. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
I'm glad I tuned in to your video because I'm in the market for a camping cot and you have certainly provided some great advice. Thank you and I look forward to viewing your future camping videos.
Thanks for the thumbs up. The Coleman Lounge cot has been my favorite due to the carry bag and the fourth set of legs at the foot of the cot, but recently, when my family was visiting, several people were sleeping on cots and they liked the REI Kingdom Cot better then the Cabela's cot, based on how they felt after sleeping all night. Let me know if you have additional questions. Rick
Durp
What do you do about uneven ground?
Good question, but in all of my rural camping here in Colorado, I choose my tent site carefully, then position my cot where it's on even ground. I've never had a problem with it moving or teetering back and forth. Good question though, and something I'll give more thought to. Rick
You don't need that much chain. A foot or two of chain is good enough and the rest can be paracord.
Good point. I hadn't considered that. Always a lot more to learn. Thanks. Rick
Is there any other way we can view the footage other than on another celular device?
I don't know the answer but I'll hit Mike up and ask him. Rick
Is there any other way we can view the footage other than on another celular device?
I don't know the answer but I'll hit Mike up and ask him. Rick
Breakaway release anybody?
Is that what you call it? I don't remember how Mike referred to it in the video. Rick
@@mikenrickoutdoors I knew the technique, but not it was called, I learned it from the Ashley Book of Knots.
Rotary hammer is best. It's like a portable jackhammer.
Thank you. I'll look that up. Rick
I have the Big Buddy , great heater however I cannot for the life of me find a 20 lbs tank. Sometime over the years the propane exchange in Ky have changed to 15 Lbs tanks.
Interesting. I've been wanting to go to a larger tank. Have you looked for something larger? Rick
I bought my 30 lbs tank at Family Farm and Home. I think they carry smaller sizes too.
Any tractor supply should have the 20lb tanks. I also live in KY and I see them all over.
Amazon has a ton of options for both battery operated and rechargeable tent fans. They hang from the ceiling and double as a light. They work great at pushing that hot air back down.
Great point. I have two dome light / fans that do exactly that. Having a fan push the heat out from the heater and a fan pushing the air down from the top of the tent helps a lot. Rick
There garbage
What heaters do you like to use? Rick
Get some help! You breathing is way to heavy!
It's called losing weight and being up around 9000 feet, plus not paying attention to my breathing and how it sounds on camera. If you check out any of my new videos on Camping with Rick, I think you'll see a big difference. See the link below. www.youtube.com/@CampingwithRick22 Rick
Congratulations 🎉
Much appreciated. Thanks. Rick
Very nice Sir
Thank you for the thumbs up. Rick
That filter isn't needed.
You're right. We only use the quick connect hose with the regulator now. Here's a link to the hose we use: amzn.to/4gxPavZ Rick
TERRIFIC experiment. Thank you. Blessings 😊
Glad to help. Rick
for outdoors better than nothing but one of those big radiant propane heaters are best the radiant grill is only about 8" x8" not very big
There are so many opinions about what is best. I recommend people do what I do and test different heat sources from wood stoves, propane stoves, diesel heaters, and kerosene heaters. This is a big discussion and it's great to hear your thoughts on this. Rick
standard propane hose do not fudge it needs to be propane certified hose
I recommend that people use the type of hose that Mr Heater recommends. See the link below for that hose. Mr Heater Hose: amzn.to/3Vt3SMz Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
u cannot use thes in confined spaces they consume a lot of oxygen and produce carbon monoxide just like car exhausts a deadly combination it is in the instructions please be careful u need lots of fresh air better to use a vented truck diesel heater but it needs 12 volts for blower
If you have watched my videos you will see that I tell people to vent their tent or RV, plus have an O2 / CO2 detector. You're absolutely correct, that you need to be careful when you use these heaters. Rick
Just read the BTUs in the Amazon description. 18,000 BTU > 4,000 BTU first grade stuff
I like these heaters a lot but I have also learned to take a backup heater and hose with me. Rick
@mikenrickoutdoors I camp in moderate to extreme heat. Occasionally, I get caught in the cold, and the Buddy is fine. You just have to plan for where you want to go. If I was in Alaska for instance I would have at least three different sources for heat just in case.
Great points. Every trip and every location requires a different plan. Rick
Thanks for explaining that filter ❤
Glad to help. Rick
honestly id rather just but a wood burning camping stove if i have to carry a heater that size. not a bad heater but with all that wood around id prefer a stove.
I think I agree with you. I will be testing different wood stoves in the future and showing people how to control the heat, plus also how to cook on them. Rick
@mikenrickoutdoors honestly heaters are a godsend but its reliability of burning wood that appeals to me.
Great point. I have had several heaters have issues or the hose, or propane tank, but thankfully I have had backups. Rick
