    This is just IRRESPONSIBLE content. Firstly, a lot of the fishermen rely on these tours for a living. You know what they were doing before these whale shark tours started happening? Dynamite fishing. If this was to disappear, countless fisher folks would resort to the same trade they did before which means the loss of marine life and the valuable income of people who barely even earn $20 a day. Secondly, these started because the whales would feed off the fish the fisherfolks threw out. They were already doing that before, they've simply found a way to make a living off something that was already naturally occurring. The sharks leave after they feed and come back the next day. It's a symbiotic relationship. Thirdly, the city is doing everything they can so the whale sharks aren't harmed. They're implemented stricter policies. It's easy to judge when you're white, privileged and entitled and never have to suffer for a meal or work manual work for anything. It's irresponsible to judge when you have never lived the lives these people live. Stripping them of a valuable livelihood, and esp one that supports conservation is downright shameful. DO BETTER THAN THAT.

    It is 500PHP per person in Oslob in May 2024 (ecluding rravel). Wonder how much it costs to get to the “wild” whale sharks in Leyte? Also “luring/feeding” is actually commonplace accross SE Asia. Although it os only in Oslob that they are allowing people to swim with the whale sharks.

    as far as I know, the whale sharks leave later in the day and arrive same time next day. they also hold brief meetings with everyone who wants to swim with them and tell them the rules and regulations that everyone should follow i.e. no wearing of sunscreen if you're swimming because the chemicals might hurt their skins, no touching, no riding on them and don't panic when they come close. I'm from Cebu and so far, I have never seen or heard any whale sharks being hurt or encountered issues with them. sure there are rowdy tourists sometimes but least most of them respected the space between them and the whale sharks.

We also earn money through content creation for social media. And we have two other online sources of income: SEO services and lead generation. We can do a more in depth video about those down the track too! Let me know any questions always glad to help.

    While I do agree that this isn't really a good thing as it makes them dependent and ruins their migration pattern. It's certainly better than when they were actually hunted down by the fishermen way back when. As someone who actually lives in Southern Leyte though, I feel incredibly blessed to have these wonderful creatures occasionally visit our small town in the summer. They aren't really seen as a tourist attraction in my town, they just happen to hang out at the port in the afternoon where a a lot of people also happen to go after school or work. We also have 2 sea turtles that spear fishermen often see nearly all year round. As well as some manta rays and a small whale species called locally as "lumba" (not sure what they are called in English) visiting from time to time.

    well first of all the whale sharks was hunted before by these fishermens, now they are feed with krills for them not to hunt them and feed their family. Second point is why you have to go there early with lots of crowds without telling your viewers the reason? don't say anything you don't know spewing mis information. The reasons you should be there early is that the sharks is there early too and will go somewhere in the vast ocean after 10 am and wont return till the next day. You can't even spot the largest whale shark every week because they roam the oceans in their free will. You don't even know the whale shark you saw in another place is also one of the sharks that also visits oslob to eat some of the krills that the fishermans give for the tourist to see. It is better for us to feed them for tourism than being hunted for their meat, did you have a detailed report that these creatures are not thriving now than before they were hunted? that tourist attraction in oslob also give education to people of what not to do to them and discourage people to hunt of touch them in the wild. the whale sharks as my memories from the tales of some old fisherman, they will always comes near the fishermans boat if they are hauling the krills to sell in the market. they are not shy creature that is why they are an easy hunt for fishermans and they say their meat are also delicious I don't know if it is true but maybe yeah.

    • @saltandcharcoal
      @saltandcharcoal หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, appreciate your input. Read this entire article for more information about why Oslob tourism is unethical: dive-bohol.com/conservation/5-reasons-not-go-oslob/#:~:text=The%20Oslob%20whale%20shark%20interaction,should%20not%20support%20this%20activity.

    • @saltandcharcoal
      @saltandcharcoal หลายเดือนก่อน

      Main points: 1) People touch, kick and don't abide by rules. A test was done and the whalesharks are touch 29 times per hour. 2) Way too busy and chaotic now for tourists and the animals 3) Behaviour modification whalesharks now seek out boats for food and have been injuring their faces and bodies on propellers etc 4) They have tracked whalesharks from Oslob, and found changes in their migration patterns It's a no brainer if you read reviews on Oslob a lot of tourists have come back to review saying they regret going there.

    • @martuldolig6063
      @martuldolig6063 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@saltandcharcoal as I have written even before in early 1900 they will come to the fishermans boat to get the krills fishermans caught even my father which is 79 yr old now said the first time he saw that animal trying to eat what they catch terified him but after how many incounters he is not afraid to them because they knew they want the krill

    • @martuldolig6063
      @martuldolig6063 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@saltandcharcoal they found changes in their migration patterns? oh really? they have not done the research of their migrating patterns before it was a thing as a tourist attraction. have you seen the migration pattern documented before 1990? if so show me because I really dont believe that they are documenting it until it was famous here. There are not many scientest who went here to study the ecosystem not until early 2000 that is why there are new animal species that is now found and documented today because it is this decade that they properly invested going to document here.

    People are ignorant of the truth regarding the whale sharks in Oslob. The whale sharks were never lured. The whale sharks came to eat the food used by the fishermen to catch their fish. Unbeknownst to the fishermen, the whale sharks would leave and return again and again.
