Just finished reading all the Fairies of Light trio mangas. Haven't played all the games yet, but here are some things to note: - Fairies are stupid. Period. They are capable of using reason and logic, but are still in general very impressionable and gullible. - They are manifestations of nature, and are both a reflection of nature as well as nature is a reflection of them. They're born from nature's lifeforce, and while they can't create more of it by themselves, they can guide nature's lifeforce to a "natural" workflow (as in imitating the Real World). An exception to that would be Clownpiece's Hellfire Torch, which can overwork or itensify lifeforce. In other words, fairies can't cause a natural disaster as long as they exist, they can only put things back into order. Clownpiece setting stuff on fire is not unnatural, it's just her recreating the nature of Hell, since she's a Hell Fairy. - This balance changes if a fairy's individual lifeforce gets messed with. They can be overtuned and turned into God levels of power. Tanned Cirno looks like a flying meme, but she canonically beats Okina, one of the strongest beings in Gensokyo, in a 1v1. And as stated before, seasons, plants and other natural ocurrances can get very intense or dim depending on the fairies' state. - If they die, they'll reapear as long as the thing they represent still exists (this I didn't learn from the mangas, or at least don't remember, but heard somewhere else). However if they exhaust their lifeforce, they turn into crystals which can be consumed by other entities, then they die, presumably, since this was stated but didn't actually happen. - They're cute, useful, and I want to adopt them.

Honestly if I was sent to gensokyo I would want to become a fairy while somehow keeping most my intelligence. Sure your killing fodder for youkai miko and the klepto witch. But you’re immortal, you get to live a carefree existence, you don’t have to worry about aging and you’re frilling adorable. I would be the smartest fairy.

The lunarians seem to have a lot of untrue myths surrounding them in terms of why people don't like them. People assume they're an evil, violent civilization who would kill, murder, and conquer with their army of slave moon rabbits, and are hypocritical mary sues who have twisted morals and are over powered for no reason. But... None of this is true. The lunarians are mostly moral, and only resort to violence in extreme situations that threaten the very foundation of their civilization. Their moon rabbits aren't slaves. They're free to do plenty of things, they're just silly little goobers who goof around all the time. They're just forced to follow the norms of lunarian society, which, while technically good, are overbearing for the rabbits, who are simple and often fun loving creatures. The reason we have many examples of moon rabbits defecting to Gensokyo is because Gensokyo is simply more suited for their nature. They're not being slave driven, like many lunarian haters think The lunarians also hate unnecessary bloodshed. Blood is toxic to them, because it causes kegare. Same thing applies to fairies, which are nature embodiment. Junko's purified hell fairies literally cause impurity by existing, and corrupt lunarians with kegare, which means a swarm of hell fairies assailing the lunar capital is deadly for the celestial/divine spirit population of lunarians that rely on remaining pure to live, and is justification for them to evacuate. Their power is also narratively justified. They're essentially all directly related to, or follow members of the central shinto gods of the world in Touhou. They have the technology and magic of the gods, something we know is far ahead of anything earth, hell, or Gensokyo has. Just look at Keiki. She was a brand new god, and by herself, with the technology and magic she posseses, she threatened the balance of the animal realm. The lunarians by comparison are much older gods. They're deservedly a force to be reckoned with. The lunarians are not evil, or even really morally wrong. They're just strict and orderly, and lunarian society is stagnant and unchanging, with freedoms being restricted for the betterment of their population. This doesn't mean their ideology is superior or inferior to any other group in touhou, just opposed to say, Gensokyo because they have fundamentally opposite approaches. Gensokyo is chaotic and wild, untamed and completely impure. It's freedom, chaos, by nature. The moon is orderly and maintained, with restricted freedoms to keep out impurity. It's order. All the hate they get is unfounded, because they're very much *not* evil villains, but opposite of the fundamental nature of our realm of focus, Gensokyo, which makes them antagonists. Not evil dictators that deserve to be put down by our good guys (Hecatia is literally queen of hell and Yukari feeds humans to youkai, the morals of their factions are definitely more deserving of scrutinizing than the lunarians.)

I have a few questions: 1 Would the Lunarian’s Ally themselves with beings that cause distortion, perhaps even corruption? 2: somewhat related to the above, if the forces of the Bydo Empire (if you don’t know what the Bydo is here’s a quick rundown (and take it with a grain of salt as i could be wrong)the Bydo empire are the villain’s of the R-Type Franchise, with capabilities of assimilating any matter into their ranks) were to try to invade Touhou’s Earth (Not just Gensokyo but also places underground such as hell), Would they form an Alliance with the Lunarian’s?

I feel like Remi's ability might be BS, as big of an EoSD fan I am. Because EoSD is the oldest game that's actually canon, and her fate changing ability has been around for over 2 decades but we haven't seen any straight-up proof, I think it might just not be real. Or alternatively, she might be worried that it violates the spellcard rules. As for Sakuya's ability, I assume she isn't afraid to use it as long as it's a spellcard and she doesn't just stab them while time is frozen. Both of my theories revolve mostly around spellcard rules, and because of how potentially overpowered these abilities can be, it's possible to abuse them in a way that violates these rules (Seeing into the future allegedly and impaling people at will sounds kinda wild, especially considering the wiki said Sakuya can control time with no limits).

I belive the Three Fairies of Light are accutally villains. ZUN may not care about them, but I lost interest in them.

It would be quite nice and fun if they gained more attentions. Though, if Tsukuyomi is revealed and given more informations about him, I have a hunch that he/she will immediately become the most hate Touhou character. Especially if Tsukuyomi defeated any characters in a battle. And also, I like to assume that tsukuyomi is either a macho man, or a reverse trap (girl who look like guy) .

If Cirno was smarter she would be really strong. That level of ice manipulation is really versatile and could counter or beat a lot of mid-level or even high level youkai. I think Cirno has battle smarts, but her lack of experience kind of gets in the way.

Hisoutensoku, Super Fighting Robot and Savior of Mankind™ is my favorite niche Touhou character.

I think that explanation is very simple - its just a Jojo reference. Im serious. EoSD cast is notorious for its amount of references to jojo, from Rumias orb of darkness being very similar to vanilla ice, to more obvious like Sakuya. Remilia is obviously heavily tied to Diavolo. With her being "Devil", her Scarlet to his Crimson and her being refered as princess/queen to his King. I feel like her ability was just meant to refer his ability "to change fate". A more in-universe explanation is that she simply can't control. One doujin had interesting idea that Remilia became vampire in such young age that her ability never fully developed. As such she uses it subconciously and can't really decide its outcome.

I always thought it implied just to happen automatically, like being exceptionally lucky. As an example: Domino from X-Men's power is luck, but they call its fate manipulation, or probability manipulation or all sorts of other things because it sounds more technical and Science fiction. This would also explain her getting ahold of outside world objects just because she wants them and manages to get such a group of oddball friends/employees who don't seem like they'd ever meet up by chance, let alone click with each other without a smol charismatic vampire.

Here's a fun thought, Clownpiece is presumably still exactly as good at Spellcard battles as she was in Lolk, her complete confidence in the situation kinda implied she'd always been good, and Spellcard rules mean she doesn't actually need powers to back it up. She could effortlessly solve an insane number of incidents with those skills.

First, i wanna to point out that Yukari was intentionally surrendered to Moon sister because that was part of her plan all along. I still surprised, many people fall to this simple act. Yes, Zun did mention Hecetia power surpassed anyone in Gensokyo and Luna capital but that actually not included Yukari. She "technically" from outside of Gensokyo because some source says her place is the very edge of Gensokyo but no one able confirmed this.

I love that, despite not having any official art, everyone collectively agrees that Youki is just green Uncle Iroh.

I feel like the Tenma should have been revealed by now. The youkai mountain has been important to the lore since Touhou 10 pretty much, and considering that they are one of the central (if not THE central) form of authority on the mountain, it's mind boggling that we haven't seen her influence in any note worthy way.

If there are any obscure characters that could randomly pop up (likely in one of the written works) would be one or both of Marisa's parents. Rinnosuke mentioned working for them before opening his own shop and we know they are alive and living in the village. We haven't heard about them since, but I think they always have a chance to show up or be mentioned again.

I mean, if abilities were taken into account, Yukari beats everyone. Yet, door lady is implied to be much more powerful. And Reimu's ability specifically is to fly. Yet canonically, she's busted strong. The abilities are only a weapon for some, not others. So it's a case by case basis where it's relevant. I suspect Remilia can use it unconsciously or by instinct because I always imagined Sakuya challenging Remilia before joining her. Even being a vampire, how do you stop someone who can stop time and hit a bullseye from 30 meters with a knife? Even if Remilia had seen the ability before and knows it exists, Sakuya doesn't have to reveal herself before stopping time and surrounding Remilia with daggers. Honestly, in stopped time, Sakuya could just get close and stab Remilia through the heart with a wooden stake. There'd be no risk. I always imagined Remilia's power was the only thing that'd prevent this kind of scenario. Even Flandre can't combat it without preemptive strike.

No one seems to remember the most dangerous fairy. It was a written story ZUN made. Luna Child. Yukari revealed Luna Child to be not only the first fairy, but the “closest to being a youkai”
