This is the second installment in my much delayed front yard landscape project. I’ve not made quite as much progress as hoped, but I have good deal more available time during this season of the Corona virus and it’s accompanying lockdown that continues to provide a much reduced work schedule.

My New Favorite Accessory, Bongo Ties
มุมมอง 2165 ปีที่แล้ว
My son in law Pete recently turned me on to Bongo Ties as a better alternative to the many bundles of chopped up bell wire that I use like bread ties. These little cleated rubber bands are amazingly simple, quick and easy to use. They’re inexpensive at about $5 for a 10 pack, and easy to keep track of. I’m sold.

    If that's an original radiator I would have just replaced it with a new one! Fan clutch along with it the thermostat! Fresh coolant and new radiator cap, hoses to call it a day.... that's if you don't want to be stranded or destroy the engine from overheating! Nice work!!

    • @skyking252
      @skyking252 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I initially replaced the belts, hoses, thermostat, and coolant just as a matter of good practice for anything that’s sat for an extended period of time. I also replaced the cap because the seal was rock hard and cracking, and serviced the fan clutch because it seemed a bit too free spinning. The rad appeared to have been replaced somewhere along the line. It had no discernible fin rot, and it was free flowing, so I rolled the dice on washing away the dried mud and straightening some bent fins. It made it thru last summer with no issues. That being said, I’ll likely take your advice and replace it before embarking on any long or remote trips with it. Thanks for watchin’, and for your input. Despite not having posted anything for quite a while, I’ll have more sometime soon.

    Great little series! BTW, isn’t there supposed to be a snap ring on the end of the CV axle (behind the hubs)? There is on my ‘96 T. Side note, you should delete the ADD system and clamp the fork in the front diff to lock it in place, so you don’t have to depend on the vacuum system that’s prone to failure to engage 4x4. It only took about an hour to do for me.

    • @skyking252
      @skyking252 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There’s a debate on the usefulness of the snap rings, with fair points on putting them back and leaving them out. My only reason for leaving them out was that they were already missing. I have every intention to either block out the ADD, or possibly swap out the long axle side with a non-ADD unit (I have a spare), but I also have thoughts of an SAS using an FJ-80 front axle that’s currently taking up space in my shed. Only time will tell…

    • @skyking252
      @skyking252 ปีที่แล้ว

      The manual hubs disengage the CV axles, so there’s a little less drag, and a lot less wear and tear. They also allow the Automatic Differential Disconnect to be deleted if desired. The “ADD” system is a bit complex for its purpose, and can also be problematic as well as fairly expensive to repair. Moreover, the manual hubs are much simpler, and a preference item for me.

    A trick for spark plugs in a aluminum head is use a vacuum hose to on the end of the plug to start the plug by hand. The hose won’t allow you to cross thread anything in aluminum. Love these little T100’s. Also anti seize on spark plugs is a bad idea. You should always remove your plugs when the engine is warm. That way you don’t pull the aluminum threads.

    I bought a rusty '98 from PA less than a year ago and have been slowly trying to work on it thanks to helpful videos like yours, which are very limited for the T100. I noticed on the last few seconds of this video that you also have low idle (500-550 rpm at a stop). I changed the spark plugs & wires & fuel filter, cleaned the injectors & throttle body, and sprayed the IAC ports (I couldn't get screws off to clean the inside) but still get a low idle.
