1984 #Honda CR80R turned 40 this year! #gopro
Firing up my 1984 @Honda CR80R with two-year-old fuel left in it. The bike still runs! Not perfect, but still impressive.
I made a short video to test the @GoPro Hero 12 Black's stabilization on my. These GoPros are amazing! I'm going over bumpy trails and even standing up at one point. Watch until the end to hear the Honda power band kick in (pre-VTEC yo)! I used the GoPro Head Strap + QuickClip and my only issue with it is the Media Mod DOES NOT fit with the headband so you cannot enjoy the improved audio and wind muff.
After recording numerous videos with the GoPro suction mount, I prefer making more relaxing videos with a fixed perspective.

1991 Honda Nighthawk CB750 - How does the stock exhaust sound?
มุมมอง 44วันที่ผ่านมา
*VOLUME/CLIPPING WARNING AT 7:29* I clipped the #Sony #ECMLV1 lav mic to the air box under the seat and it works fairly well. The exhaust gets too loud after about 7,000 rpms and clips the audio, but the wind buffeting is not an issue. This was plugged directly into the @GoPro media mod and raw audio was set to "low". I love the sound of Honda inline-four engines. This is my 1991 @Honda Nightha...

2024 Kawasaki W800: Last ride of 2024
มุมมอง 998หลายเดือนก่อน
We suddenly had a warm day on November 8 so I took my 2024 Kawasaki W800 out for a final ride of 2024. I tested one more location for my lav mic, I clipped to one of the tie down hooks near the right side suspension. I get a good balance of exhaust, wind, and engine sound here, but I still have issues with clipping. I'm guessing the lav mic just can't handle high sound pressure levels. I really...

The bike sounds lovely indeed. How much of the sound can one hear while riding?
Good question, with my full-face helmet, once you're over 60 km/h I can't hear the bike at all. It could be a bit louder. I use an Icon Alliance GT and it's noisy and buffets a lot too so that may be a factor in what I hear.
@ thank you
Flat track that little beast in mad dog!
Just need new tires and reattach some spokes!!
may i ask where do you put your mic at? :D
Hello, for this ride I clipped it to the cargo hook in front of the suspension on the right side. I then tied a wind muff over the whole thing.
Needs a tune, and I smell clutch..
100% when I get some spare time!
drive a motorcycle like driving a car
Those old bikes were awesome. Always had a broken/cracked back fender on them. Let it actually hit the powerband and enjoy! Haha
Haha that damn mud guard scares the shit out of everyone when I back the bike up. It catches on the knobbies. The powerband is really fun too!
wtf why is it idling so high
Good question! It's been sitting for about 3 years with the same fuel so it needs some attention... it's also caked in mud so I probably need to adjust the cables, clean the carbs, check for any vacuum leaks...
I loves these bikes cause they made the 150R out of these
Oh no way, was that a 4-stroke? I love this bike but it's a race bike so I don't even think I can plate it and go on public trails (Crown land in Canada)? I could be wrong. For now I just ride on my friend's acreage.
Had the same year and bike 30 years ago, good times!
I never expected an 80cc bike to be this much fun.
Used to have a cr80r 1980 back in the days
They're surprisingly powerful! I use this bike to teach my friends how to ride before moving up to big bikes. It has taught at least 6 people so far. Light and easy to ride and pick up when you drop it. Just bring ear plugs lol.
Totall rad!!!!
How many miles on your nighthawk ?
Hey! Just over 100,170 kms on it! Just had the clutch springs replaced and a few plates changed. Other than that, a new starter switch, fork seals, and a bearing in the rear wheel in 2017. Nothing too crazy.
That's a crazy amount of mileage on the bike! I guess Honda reliability and durability is no joke! I've always admired these bikes, but never had the opportunity to ride one. How does it compare to a twin like the W800? I sold a Yamaha V-Star 650 to a young guy years ago, who commented that his Nighthawk 750 always felt like it was heavy, and wanted to "tip over" in slow speed corners, so I always wondered about it!
Hey! I have always loved inline-4 bikes, they have a lot of top end when you need it on the highway here. They're very smooth too. This particular CB750 is a gem with automatic valve and timing chain adjusters. The only maintenance is oil and chain, the rest is as it wears. I do agree that the DOHC engines are tall and top heavy. I actually avoided a cb750 as my first bike because of that. I love this bike, it's my camping and highway cruiser, I've done over 40,000kms on it and it's fast, loud, smooth, and agile (when moving). The carbs and engine are so well tuned, in 5th gear I can putt around at 50 km/h and open it up and be passing people on the highway without changing gears.
WE ACTUALLY WANTED TO LISTEN TO THE BIKE SOUND INSTEAD OF SOME TRASH LO FI MUSIC (ok my bad its a screensaver)
Me too man, me too. Next year I'll do the ride again and buy a better mic.
Did you see any snakes?
No, just a Nighthawk.
my dream bike ><
It's a great bike!
Great audio. I guess you found the perfect spot to capture that engine exhaust note. Real British sound. Awesome.
Hopefully next season I can sort out the clipping and then I'll be able to share the whole ride without cuts!
Real UJM sound
Wow! Pretty large park and plenty of lights!! Very nice. Someone has taken a lot of trouble to put these up ... 18:29 - is that PoP? ;)
My W800 is tucked away for winter I'll give it a service and clean the fuel filter while it's laid up. Great to see your videos - 👌🏽
Mine is wrapped and buried under a foot of snow 🥲 it will be a long 4-5 months before I see it again.
Ui....how did u record sound?
Hello! For this ride I placed the Song ECM-LV1 lavalier mic under the taillight. It's plugged into the GoPro Media Mod and recorded as raw audio with low processing.
Is that on factory tires, or have you replaced them? Looking at W800's, cool bikes.
Hey! These are the stock Dunlops. They were pretty sketchy on gravel earlier in the season. Had to keep it below 60km/h. By the end of the season the gravel was washed away and the hard packed clay was manageable to ride on. I had Dunlop K70s on my old cb550 and that combination was a blast on gravel. Might try and fit those on this bike next season.
@deinfluencing awesome. Thanks.
You're welcome. Thank you for the feedback. I've updated the title!
Have you seen this guys solution yet? th-cam.com/video/DY-6JC64pnE/w-d-xo.html
Too much chain noise with that mic location in my opinion.
I agree I did find that spot a bit noisy. I have another video I'm editing where the mic was placed near the right side cargo hook and the exhaust and engine sound is more balanced.
@deinfluencing cant wait to see it then :D
I like the look but does it have enough power to be exciting?
Hi there, great question. I was worried about this since my first three bikes were Honda inline 4s which were louder, faster, and revved up to 9,500 rpms (550/750/900). The 900 was overkill at 85hp for legal speed limits. I'm happy to say I'm not disappointed with this Kawasaki W800. It has a very linear powerband and doesn't fade off at high rpms where you actually need power to pass on a highway. I can accelerate without downshifting and I can keep up with North American highway speeds. I also really enjoy the 5-speed gearbox as it's mated perfectly to the 48hp twin. My only similar comparison was a Moto Guzzi V7 and I did not enjoy the experience at all. I am very pleased with the W800.
Getting cold and snowy now. Saw pictures from my kids. Time to put the W in storage. 😢
My bikes are wrapped up! We're expecting 20cm tomorrow :|
@ yes my kids are telling us that. Still warm here. 6 C. But it won’t be long now. My Bonneville is put away now. Going to be a long wait lol. Interesting video with mic placement. You can really hear the grunt of the twin.
I found another spot near the shocks that worked well. But still dealing with clipping issues. I think my microphone just can't handle high sound pressure levels.
Love the music choice! :)
That 3 mins summed up my average weekend or evening rides when I lived in Calgary love seeing my old haunts. Ghost Lake. 1A. And Longview to the 1A. I almost froze to death one Sunday afternoon in late October doing that run on a T100. At the Peter Lougheed summit it was minus 1 C. I still had a long way to go to get back to Calgary. Memories. Yikes.
Those sound like good memories on a classic bike. I love southern Alberta and can't wait for the next riding season! Mountain trips definitely require different planning and timings for daylight and weather. -1°C would hurt on a bike!
I do miss Alberta. Raised my family there from 1999 to 2017. Retired and bought lake front property in Ontario. Add fishing boat and Triumph Bonneville. Retirement is great. Tried to acquire a W but they were very hard to find within a 200 Kms radius. I road many 100,000 Kms from my home in Calgary. Love your bike. Awesome colour. Enjoy and ride safe.
Oh nice. I used to live in Ontario. The north is beautiful, between Sault Ste Marie and Thunder Bay. It was a challenge to get a W800. I had a poor experience at Argyll Motorsports in Edmonton. But another dealership call Conlon was very enthusiastic and they shipped one to me from BC! I was so pleased because I love the black and red colours for the 2024 model.
@ yes not a fan of Argyle. I think they were bought out by Barnes. Who owns Blackfoot in Calgary and Richmond ? In Vancouver. Costco of dealerships. I bought a ton of bike off Blackfoot when they were just Blackfoot. We love Ontario. My wife is originally from here in the Rideau Lakes district. Roads are amazing for an old guy like me now on a Bonne. I’d say your W is more retro and period correct anyways. It’s the real deal if someone wants British charm and character. Excellent bike. And bulletproof. Glad to follow your journey. Ride safe and enjoy. FYI my son and daughter live and work in Edmonton raising our grandchildren. Great place to be.
Speak of the Devil, Argyll just phoned asking if I want to buy a W800 next year! While I appreciate the phone call, they missed the boat on this eager customer.
@ I think the dealerships are getting desperate lol. My best friend and I deal with Ottawa Goodtimes and or GP Powersports in Whitby. I still see no W on order and I suspect one would have to preorder to get one. They’re loss. When you get too big you forget that the customer holds the power. It’s cold here now and the bike has been put away. Going to be a long wait til spring Uhhgg.
Thanks for making these videos, I'm an old guy and grew up with the British bikes of the '60s, and for me a bike must be air cooled, like I said I'm old. I think out of the new motorcycles this Kawasaki and the Royal Enfields come closet to the old British bikes. I do really like the Moto Guzzi V7's, but have never owned that brand. I see you had a 2016 V7, but I'm looking at the 2017's on up. If I was to buy right now it would be tough to pick between the V7 or the W800, I like both, and I think the newer V7's have solved some of the earlier issues, although not the dealer network, so today I would probably get the W800. As for the stock W800 sound, I wish it was a little bit louder, but I think it has a better sound than any of the aftermarket choices I have heard, plus it looks right, I'd probably keep it.
Hello there! I did have the moto guzzi and I did not enjoy the bike. Although it looked great and handled great, the throttle and power delivery was too jerky and it ran like an auto rickshaw. The dealership also warned me that Piaggio's service is awful so I said no thanks and traded it for the Kawasaki. I too wish the Kawasaki was slightly louder, but in terms of classic looks and styling, it is the best option. When I sit on it, it feels like a Royal Enfield Bullet 500, but much faster and smoother. The paint and the chrome look stunning. I'm glad you enjoy the videos and I look forward to shooting more when winter ends.
Nice ride along. The W sure sounds nice when short shifted in slow traffic. If it seems like everyone else is speeding it might be because your speedometer reads about 3km/hr faster than you are actually going. I have checked this with a GPS on my W. That low end torque is nice in traffic. Enjoy the riding while the weather permits. BJ in Ottawa
One last day today! We're up to 14°C in Edmonton today... then the long dark winter and 5 months of watching my own videos on repeat 🥲

Nice ride through the varying terrain in what I assume is Alberta. Flat plains, foot hills and Mountains. Great ride. Thanks for sharing.
This ride was from Longview to Kananaskis and then ended close to Calgary. I'm thinking of uploading the full video with some music but it's a 15gb file!

@@deinfluencing I spent some time in Ferne not too far south of there working on a log ski chalet. My parents were retired in Vernon in the Okanogan so we used to fly to Calgary and drive from there every couple of years. I still miss those times.
Recently passed by Fernie on a car road trip. That whole Highway 3 Crowsnest Pass area is really nice. Many small communities along the way too.
@@deinfluencing Did you go through the rock slide site? Very spooky and a bit overwhelming when you see that kind of power from nature.
Hello, how are you finding the vibrations of the w800 would you say they are anoying for long trips ?
I have been on a couple of "Ride for Dad" poker runs with my W800 that lasted anywhere from 3 to 5 hours and vibration has never been an issue. After break in there is a slight vibration, More of a throb, right at 3500 rpm (100kph) but it has never made me not want to ride at that speed. The vibration was more pronounced during break in but got a lot better after the first service. It is dead smooth at any other speed so it is not hard to ride around the vibration if it bothers you. i hardly notice them anymore and find them to be a comforting feed back from the engine.
Hello, The bikes certainly vibrates more than an inline-4, however I don't find it to be a problem. A bigger issue I find is the seat shape is awkward for me and a bit too wide in the middle.
@@deinfluencing Yes. The seat is very narrow up front but much wider further back Not a problem for taller riders but could get in the way for shorter people. I might be looking for an after market seat to make it more comfortable as it gets a little hard on the butt after a couple of hours. I find four cylinder bikes to be too smooth and soulless. They general need to rev much higher to make useable power. The low end torque of the W800 is one of the things I love about it. I had a 1972 CB350 with a 180 crank and that thing was a paint shaker. It would vibrate you feet right off the foot pegs. The W800 is a sewing machine by comparison. The slight vibes let you know what the engine is doing. I kind of like it.
Catching up on your videos. Looking to get a 2025 W800 when they show up in the US next year. I like the new brown color they have. Really cool bikes.
Thanks for watching. I'm really enjoying this bike, although I think that's it for the season here in Alberta. The 2025 colour does look nice. I'm glad they did away with the halftone colours.
That's definitely BIG SKY country! How has your fuel mileage been? I can go anywhere from 250 to 300km before the light comes on depending on where and how I am riding and there is still more than 4 liters left in the tank.
Hey Bob! So far I'm happy to say I get about 22-23 km/L in city and high speed highway riding. I recently went on a ride to Kananaskis and through the mountains the speed limit is 90 kmh and I was averaging 26 km/L!! When the fuel light comes on, I seem to be able to fill about 10.5L so I guess I have another 4.5L to go!
@@deinfluencing Sounds about right I get anywhere from 68 to 73 miles per imperial gallon.
Next year I'd like to ride from Jasper to Banff along the Icefields Parkway. It's about 288km without fuel and I've never tried it on a motorcycle. I think the W800 will make it.
@@deinfluencing I've gone over 300km before the light came on riding around 90 to 100kph and mild acceleration. You'll be fine with 4 liters in reserve after the light comes on. That's almost 26km/liter.
@@deinfluencingyou’ll have no problem. If you’re worried there used to be a gas stop at Saskatchewan River Crossing. I doubt you’ll need it. Did that so many times. Calgary to Prince George BC. 800 Kms non stop. Just get gas in Jasper. Mind you I had an ST1300 with an enormous gas tank. lol. Beautiful road. Terrible what happened in Jasper. Broke my heart.
Hi! How the vibrations is over the 4000 rpm after time? Have a nice ride
Hello, I find the vibrations are still present from 3,000-4,000 rpms but they don't bother me anymore. Above 4,000 rpms they completely disappear. The seat is also softening slowly so it's more comfortable. I've only driven a Kawasaki Ninja 500 to compare to another parallel twin and it's smoother than that was.
I will get a low km used W650 (kick -start) & and a new (red ), blue , or green , W-800 as well & they presently are the most classical mc available !!! 👍🥃
I agree! I miss kick-start motorcycles.
60kph on a nice road like that seems a little silly to me. It is probably a parkway but that is very slow.
It was a struggle to keep it that slow 🥲 (Edit: It's Elk Island National Park)
Hello, are the vibrations realy terrible has some ppl say ? Also what is your weight and passenger? Thanks
Hello and thanks for the question. The vibrations aren't bad after the break-in period. It did go down after about 300 kms. It feels like a smoother Royal Enfield Bullet 500. In top gear after 4,000 rpms it's completely gone if you're doing high-speed cruising in North America. I weigh 185 pounds and my passenger is about 150 pounds (don't tell her I said that). She said the seat was a bit too wide and uncomfortable on her thighs. She also said the vibrations were too much for her. The W800 has enough power throughout the range to pass even at slow speeds. It felt very stable even on gravel roads, and the brakes work very well.
I replied and then got an answer from my passenger. Updated the comment!
@@deinfluencing Thank you for taking time to help. Have fun
You're welcome and thank you!
Noticeable difference in Alberta and Ontario as far as the fall colours go. Looks like Poplars and evergreens on your ride. The Maples here in Ontario add so much red, right now it’s peak fall colours. Enjoy the W800!
Good tree-spotting! We have a lot of Aspen Poplar and some Birch here. We're having an unusually warm and late fall! I do miss the oak and maple trees in Ontario.
I gave serious consideration to the V7 before buying my W800 but I would have had to go to Montreal or Toronto to find a dealer. The lack of a dealer in Ottawa made me decide on the W800. I have no regrets. How do like the W800 compared to the Guzzi?
Hello again, Bob! Compared to the Moto Guzzi which thrashes you about, this Kawasaki is like riding in a Cadillac. It's just so smooth, it's quick, the suspension is soft but not sloppy, the clutch and engine feels so effortless. The Moto Guzzi was the first bike I bought that wasn't a Honda and I absolutely hated how unrefined it was. I will admit it handled very well and I would have kept it but the moment I gave it throttle coming out of a turn, I would never know if it was going to stall or launch into space. That was enough to scare me away from it. And the dealer in Edmonton was very nice, but they also advised me that Piaggio support is awful.
@@deinfluencing The Guzzis are a little agricultural and don't sound as nice as the W800. My first bike was a 1972 CB350 (paint shaker). Then a 1981 CM400T (smooth as singer sewing machine). Then a 1982 Yamaha 750 Virago and now a 2022 W800. Enjoy the W800 and ride safe.
Nice machine. I have the 2022 version of that bike. Very rare in my area. I have not seen another one in my two years of ownership. They always get a conversations going as people don't know what they are. Really nice bike to ride with that lovely low end torque. Enjoy. Occasional full throttle will help seat the rings and the occasional venture to 5000rpm won't hurt them during break in but you can ride below 4000rpm all day and still stay ahead of the traffic. Wonderful low rpm useable power. Mine will pull away from a stop without touching the throttle and it will putter along at 50kph in fifth gear and pull to highway speed nicely without shifting down. They are a little buzzy at 3500rpm but that gets better after break in and the first oil change. I guess mine still buzzes a little but I don't really notice it anymore. I call it character. On another note, my dad grew up in the Homeglen area south west of Edmonton. I believe he was the first baby born in Alberta on Jan 1st 1929. Bob in Ottawa
Hello there Bob! I have only ever seen the W650 years ago in Ottawa (2007). But I've never seen the W800 anywhere on the roads. I'm also finding the buzzing is diminishing as the bike breaks-in more. I find engine and clutch and power delivery to be extremely smooth it's like riding in a Cadillac.
@@deinfluencing They do ride nice and plenty of power for what I need.
What country is that in😮😮😮😮
This is beautiful Alberta, Canada! Home of the big prairie skies.
Hi, Great point of view,👍🏻 is so near the ridin’ sensation. I have the same bike in the same color. Have you an issue with the vibration up to 3500/4000 round/min. on the grip and the footpeg. I ride an other one and don’t find this problem. With mine if I ride for 30 minutes at 60mp/h, my hands go to sleep. Which is your sensation? What can I do? Thanks for your time and video. Have a nice trip. Graziano from Parma, Italy
Hello there, Thanks for the comment. And cheers to a fellow W800 owner! I do notice the vibrations between 3,000-4,000 rpms, they were stronger when I brought the bike back from the dealership. I'm now just over 300kms and they seem to be smoothing out a bit. I haven't had the chance to cruise faster as I'm still below the 600kms break-in period so I keep revs below 4,000 rpms. I will let you know how it feels as I continue to break it in!
Hello! The vibrations on my W800 are always the same right from the start. Clearly noticeable 3000-4000 rpm but always somehow "soft". Above this, at the latest from 4500 rpm, the vibrations decrease, and from around 5000 rpm they almost disappear completely! I have owned the W800 since May 2024 and it has now run 3500 km. I have already swapped the Dunlop K300 for “Conti Go” and the fork spring and shock absorbers for units from “Hyperpro”, which I am very happy with. Greetings from Munich/Germany
Hello fellow W800 owner! Thanks for sharing your experience. I have just completed the break-in and my first service and just crossed 1,600 kms. Winter is coming in Alberta so no more riding until Spring!
Nice to see a fellow W rider in Canada, we’re a rare breed! I’ve had my 2023 W800 since May of this year, and have really enjoyed putting 12,000kms on it. Great bike but I’ve had a couple of issues with mine. I’ve experienced throttle dead spots in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. The problem began at around 6000km in the summer and comes and goes, more prevalent in hotter days. It’s not fuel quality related as once I shift from the dead throttle gear to a higher gear the throttle response is back to normal. I’m taking my bike in next week for it’s 12k servicing and they will look at the throttle issue. Hopefully the KPP will cover any repairs. Could be a one off issue, so I wouldn’t worry about it, enjoy your beautiful 24 W800!
Wow 12,000 kms since may! That's amazing! Please keep me updated on your ownership experience. I've had a few instances where the throttle seemed to cut out as well, but with just over 1,600kms I don't have enough time with the bike to really understand its characteristics.
Nice video! I see you have an earlier one with a Guzzi V7, did you trade it for the W800? I’m always happy to see more people making videos with the W in North America. It’s incredible how little love the W gets, given the popularity of modern classics.
Hello there, I'm uploading videos of my experience with the W800 before winter comes in Alberta. This is my first new bike so I'm excited to share the experience and hope other people consider this lovely bike. I did have a 2016 Moto Guzzi v7ii Special. The bike checked all the boxes I like for a small, light, agile bike, with spoked rims. However the Moto Guzzi takes forever to warm up, and the throttle was very jerky when cold and at low speeds, which I didn't enjoy at all. It would sometimes just take off on you mid-turn so I said no thanks. It did handle extremely well and was very smooth and stable on highways due to its low centre-of-gravity... Shame.
It was a quiet lens, but not as quiet as a USM or SWM from Canon or Nikon. The newer sony SSM are better too... it was minoltas first foray into arc form drives...Good lens still.
use an a77. arguably the fastest AF system in a DSLR/DSLT in the world
minolta 70-210 on a a55 here. that was cheap and it really focus fast. imo, avoid sony glasses, they're overpriced and not worth it.
@ckingphoto 70-200 is just a lens. It's fine for indoor or outdoor shooting. Your subject determines the appropriate focal length. Children's sports, skateboarding, hot air balloonfests, rodeos, etc. -- all require a 70-200, not something longer.
@chriskingottawa i have both the a900 and the a55. yup the a55 is faster haha
