Enjoyed watching you check the deck height with the modifications made to the bridge tool. Very clever sir. That Storm Vulcan does a nice job on the deck. We have a Storm Vulcan crankshaft polisher, but I don't think it's as old as your vintage piece. Thanks
Thanks for watching
Nice work, is that 350 going to get arp bolts/studs on the mains or does the factory bolts do the job?
Lower power stock bolts will do fine thanks for watching
Great work. I went nuts with my grinder an polished the entire inside of my block, clearanced everything. There's not a loose piece of flashing, casting sand etc inside or out. My block is smooth as a babies butt inside an out. It looks beautiful with the paint on. I'm enjoying watching you work, it's top notch
Thanks
Thanks for posting the video. Have you considered adding a motor controller to your older machine, instead of changing pulleys? A VFD could give you the ability to change speeds on the fly, and would probably give you more speed range than you need while still having ample torque. In today's money it would probably be a couple hundred bucks to add a VFD, but that could give your machine a new personality.
Thanks I could do that my seat and guide machine has one as well as my hone
A really good thing to show if you can is proper use of the micrometer. It's one thing I struggle with... i mic the crank, set my dial bore gauge, check the bearing clearance and find out I show .003-.005 more oil clearance than it really is just because I don't have a good feel for measuri g with a micrometer. Judging how much drag on the anvil when measuring is a skill imo
Your saying 0003 to 0005 if you have a Precision gauge block that you know the actual size of you can practice with your micrometer on that most of the time I triple or check things multiple times to make sure that it is what it says it is
@@mccarthyperformance2015 exactly, .0003-.0005 seems to be my error range
Your content is top notch. Just gotta figure out how to promote it. I learn something on every video
I appreciate that!
Sure does a good job cleaning
That is going to be nice 283 after it is done.
Ah I see simmlier to blocking out making sure it's flat
Nice work pat you are the best
Nice work, i wish i had stones to do a valve job.
Nice work. Where do you get your diamond stones for the AN?
Facebook Alice Zhang
I learn something on every video! Thanks! That's going to be a nice little small block
The methods you are using to build those engines are tried and true for sure, nice job. I have one of those SHP blocks that slung a rod and tore up the bottom of the cylinders on 5 and 6, its 4.030" now and i want to try and sleeve it but would like to take it out to 4.155". Do you think that one of those blocks have enough meat to sleeve it for 4.155"? I also have a GM 184 HD bowtie block with similar damage and would like to do the same with it if possible. Just wonder what size sleeve could be used for this. Thanks for the video.....
I Sonic check everything as far as putting a sleeve i put many sleeves in many engines depending on the damage of the old bar and if there's pieces missing I prefer to have the most support with a thick wall sleeve but there is compromises and can be much more than in this conversation I could write almost a book about it the bottom line is if the bottom of the bars are chipped blend them back if the stroke does not take piston down to the damage part of bore
Nice
Thanks
Cool..
great video, another great looking product out of mccarthy performance!
Glad you liked it!
nice finish at the end Pat!!
Thanks for watching
thank you for the pointer!
@Mccarthy Performance. When you measure piston to deck clearance with the dial indicator bridge how much do you factor in for piston rock when selecting head gasket thickness. Example if the piston at TDC is flush with the deck above the pin axis and want to end up with a piston to head clearance of .038" is that the gasket thickness you'd buy?
Depending on bore size how loose piston piston to wall is But 040 with steel rods never had a problem
Nice job pat thanks for sharing your knowledge
It is the attention to details that make a good engine, not just slapping it together, nice job.
Thanks for watching
Very interesting. I've never even thought about measuring the I.D. of the small end on a press-fit application. Time to change my ways. You're correct, nothing worse than getting a pin stuck half-way into the rod during installation. Always seems to happen on 1 or 2 out of eight. I'll try this method. Thanks for the tip.
i was sweating watching you work that fast!..lol..good job mccarthy performance !
Should try it at 60 😆
I always enjoy your videos. You provide a number of common-sense tips. Makes me think about the way I do things. That's a nice dial bore gauge. Would like to have one, but that type is very expensive.
Yes but worth every penny but got most of my sunnen bore gauges on Ebay
That's a great tip pat
Beautiful, simply beautiful!
Thanks for watching
Is this engine for sale?
I believe with the gto it goes in
Nice to see a proper machine work done, it is a dying art.
Thanks for watching
Used many set when I resized w/ New bolts we put typing paper between cap and rod resized out of round on purpose to give extra clearance at parting line of rod and cap
Any special gas for the silicon bronze? Straight argon?

NICE WORK I WONDERED WHAT I WOULD DO WITH THE DART BLOCK FOR THAT - I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF INSTALLING VENT TUBES ON MY OEM 400 BLOCK - SUBSCRIBED
I did something very similar on my BBC with the oval windows like that. I didn't put screen on the top rhough. I drilled an extra drain hole in the rear. No idea how much benefit there was but I know it didn't hurt anything
thanks for watching
Nice job. Looks great. Have a good evening.
Thanks
Good stuff..
Do us the Storm Vulcan for blocks and the Berco for heads? Could you please ell me what valve grinder you prefer?
I only had two valve grinders I liked both of them 645 and 680 sioux
Nice job, this shows that nothing in these days is a direct bolt on, everything must be checked, measured and prepped.
Thanks for watching
Enjoy your videos! Boy if you can find a Kwikway EBF boring stand (locates block off mains) you'll sell that Rottler.
Ha ha I don't think so but thanks for watching🙂 the Rottler and can cut o4o out in one pass at 4.650 bore I sleeved many blocks with it had it for 20 years she a keeper
Thanks for sharing. Where do you get the diamond stones? Part #? Thank you
On my Sunnen CK10 you can call Tennessee Abrasives to get the diamond stones kit instead of spending $$$$ with Sunnen. Also for the CV616@@mayhemmotorsports7002

Good stuff..
you got a single bit in the 85B?
Nope hitting rust / hard spot from rust not a fully cutting deck block off square
What chemical do you have in that tank?
I believe zep 11263 one pound per gallon to one and a half pounds per gallon very nasty stuff do not get it on your skin or eyes but works very good need to be careful with it Thanks for watching
I'm curious. How often, if ever, do those torque plates get 'calibrated/validated'? Is there a process to verify their integrity? I'm not challenging anything, I'm just curious if it's even a thing.
I not sure we're your going ..validated .. well I go over some of this in My many videos on honing my bore gauge read s in half thousands gauge is not moving I validated that with my other dial board gauge it reads tenths of thousands so I'm under or at 2 1/2 tenths of one thousand of 1inch taking the deck plate off the engine with the cylinder wall that closed is the validation is it 100% perfect probably not. it's not possible to hone with the real head on it head gasket and fasteners are used in honing operation to get as close as possible but it's better then nothing at all by a long shot Thanks for watching
@@mccarthyperformance2015 . . thank you.
Good stuff..
Thanks
getting that work out in..lookin good!
wow Pat, that chemical does a nice job!
that's why I still deal with it... a pain to deal with but have not found anything that does better in my opinion😀
Who would make a video 41 seconds long? Just stupid
What kind of bath is that? Thanks
Hot tank IDL about 170 gallons in it about a pound to a pound and a half of Zep 11263
