Just came across your channel while looking for some info about our trip to the Badlands while heading to Colorado to see our son. I am so ready to try this lifestyle for a year or two but my wife can’t bear to leave our two young granddaughters here in WI for an extended amount of time. Enjoy and I will have to live vicariously through you guys for now.😂

Did the manufacturer cover the repairs

We stayed at a Loves in Hardin, South Dakota on our way back from Ennis Montana. their RV park was separate from the truckstop and it had a gate that you had to put a code in. Ours was a pull through site.

While I hope this repair is successful and permanent, with the way RVs move going down the road I can't help but wonder if the massive improvement in rigidity where your repairs were done will cause added flex somewhere else and you'll see another failure. Fingers crossed against that! Happy travels!

I would have preferred to see those gussets on the underside of the frame in the curvature rather then a diagonal brace from the frame up and attached to the wall system of the rv. Seems to me that the problem just got switched from the bottom to the top.

My question is…is the issue only on the drivers side? If so. It would appear to me that it’s a direct result of that slide being cut out of the structure. Why else would it not be happening on the passenger side.

One thing I loved about living in Idaho when I was in the military was that I could make plans in January for July knowing I wasn't going to get rained out. Unlike my home state in the Upper Midwest where you can't plan more than 2 days ahead for weather. I see you guys are from Ada County. I lived in Canyon County. Love Idaho.

Engineer here… The diagonal strut in the wall is going to make the most difference of all. Good call on affinity for putting that in.

I just camped there last week for 4 nights, nothing has changed thus far. It was still fair game to camp anywhere...and people will get close. Happy camping!!

You have too much weight on the back of your trailer.

I'm going in a few weeks staying in Whitefish the West Side. The Sun Road is closed at Logan Pass so can't drive through the whole park or do the Highline. Being the Sun Road is closed what is the best hikes or drives (if any) to do on the West Entrance?

Welding aluminum lowers the strength of the beam at the weld, rather a bad way to join a structure....

We just learned that we have this issue as well, anything you recommend we ask our manufacturer or lippert before starting the process?

Its not just Grand design ,all Lippert frames are made out of inferior grades of materials . They should use Chrome-molly material for the same thickness and weight . They also use the same materials on travel trailers and it breaks too. Its cheap steel , too light of a frame and then overloaded. Then the Manufactures are playing the blame game between Lippert and the Manufacture. Sue the Manufacture and let them recover from Lippert .

After seeing how Affinity repaired and strengthened the frame, it really makes how the manufacturer built it look flimsy. The manufacturers should build it this way in the first place.

Seems to me like the rv industry should have constructed the trailer correctly just like the repair,,, An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure

the frames should not flex if they do they are a BAD DESIGN
