So if the temperature falls too low and heat kicks in what stops the bitcoin miners from getting cooked by the furnace? Shouldn't the zone valve close if the furnace receives a heat signal?
Great question! Yes, you definitely have to wire the zone valve into the system so you cut the flow if your furnace is running. Other options are to cut power to the miners (miners not on all the time) or really oversize the dry cooler so that it can handle hotter fluid (miners on all the time). Definitely have to take a look at the whole system and think things through ;-)
I am currently using a bitcoin miner as a clothes dryer in a much simpler way. and it has been working for the last 4 month. using and s19 and an old industrial dryer. If i had the cash i would use a newer s21. its all controlled by home assistant some solid state relays and a rpi 2 w on a relay board. Also added a 10inch blower fan other wise the s19 had heat issues. I run the miner at 2500 watts. which nets me about 132f for the temp. I use a temp and humidity monitor with an esp32 to monitor temp and humidity coming out the dryer and a script that starts it all at the press of a button and also shuts everything down when the humidity of the exhaust hits my setpoint (41%). Come winter I plan on using a similar setup to heat my house (depending on cash flow).
That's very cool! Glad to see you had success! I know others have had success with that approach as well. My attempt was to try and solve the airflow problem...most dryers have a 4-6 inch duct exiting...you can't force a full S19 or S21 airflow through that opening, and you can end up with a lot of heat dumped into your utility room. The goal was to try to get down to a 150-200cfm airflow so this could work with any dryer. As you'll see in the other episodes, it didn't work that well, but it was fun trying :-). If you can handle any residual heat build-up, direct airflow is probably the better option at this point. Maybe when we get miners running at hotter temperatures, a low airflow design might work.
Used a llarge coin operated dryer so it's air out port was 8inch. After attaching everything correctly I don't have any heat dumping into my house.
@@person65270 Nice! Wish I had that!
Hey bro ! Nice video ! If I watch all your vidéos can I acquire the pratical skills to do that in my home and to scale it to à small building I own ? Currently knowledge : cryptominners exist and produce heat as a cost effective way when it comes to heat. I don't know how to transfer it to rooms and flat while maximizing comfort while letting them always on. I want to shield the people from noise and let them the option to régulate the heat. Is this doable ?
Hi! I try to provide enough ideas and resources for folks to start thinking about their own setups. At this stage in bitcoin mining heating, every setup is unique and each is a custom one-off build. I don't cover practical skills...I definitely want to defer to professional electricians, HVAC specialists, and hydronic specialists...they are the tradesmen who have honed their skills over years (if not decades). But my content should help you engage with them to explain what you're after so you can work with them to accomplish your goals!
@@HBIM_Channel Hey thank you for the answer ! Yes I'm looking to pratical skills too because I'm my country i do not know many people who do it. We are à bit old school ... Anyways your content already help !
@@Master43deluxe There are a ton of how-to videos out there covering how to do electrical work, solder, and other stuff. I learned most my practical skills that way ;-) Just keep learning!

Hmmm...interesting. I'm in the US. I've downloaded the stand-alone version on multiple computers (including re-downloading today). No costs/no charges. I've not played with the on-line version or used outside of the US...maybe there's fees there?
So I think you're right...the website is a different application than the downloadable version. The on-line version doesn't seem to work :-(. Try the downloadable version...I think you'll find success there!
I'm impressed how much effort You're putting in this chanel. Absolutely U deserve RESPECT. I'll do one day immersion mining setup. But first I need to have enough battery bank. At least 120-150 kWh and big enough solar to feed it with power. then it will be only clean straight to pocket mining greatings
Thanks! Yeah...that sounds like an awesome setup! Let me know how it goes!
Hello i want to make the same system for 8 machines with the lowest sound possible plz help how big coil do i need i think if i put more fans with low rpm !
With 8 machines, you're big enough where a commercial dry cooler starts making a lot of sense. They're a bit more expensive, but many have setups where the fans will throttle up/down or turn off in reaction to fluid temp. They also are made to minimize noise, so even at full speed, the fan noise isn't too bad.
Great video, subscribed!
Thanks! More content on its way!
Thanks Bob!
Hey I like your Channel a lot ! Really good work ! Wich hot water temperatures can you achieve with you system ? And how high are the inlet temperatures ?
I've got the system built so that my on-demand water heater is down stream of the miners. The water coming off of the BPHE is about 90-100F, so my water heater only has to bump up the water temp by 20-30 degrees or so.
@@HBIM_Channel thanks for your quik answer. Do you think it is possible to get 120 or even up to 140°F. I don't want to sell our pv surplus but to convert it into heat through mining. It should be stored in a large hot water tank and used for Homeheating.
@@EliaFröhlich It is possible, but its going to depend on how you build the setup and how you run your miners. I regularly get my immersion fluid above 130F. You can get 140F, but with the S19 or later generation of miners, you'd be pushing the hardware really hard. So if you have 130F immersion fluid, you need a really efficient heat exchanger to pull as much heat as you can out of the immersion fluid and raise the water temp as high as possible. I plan on covering heat exchanger design in an upcoming episode...might give you some ideas 🙂
Awesome episode Bob, really appreciate this. Where did you get your tank?
I covered the tank build in my 120V build series...its a fish tank I found that's just big enough to fit an S19
Amazing breakdown on the cloths dryer, Looking forward to seeing part two. I Very much want to start building one of these. Just have to figure out how and where to put the immersion infrastructure for the miners heat exchanger and radiators
Im adding a water cooled j pro 104 to my solar water heater setup… i may do a video if it works well.
Very cool...hydro is a great option!
Thats normal on the teflon tape.
Nice!

*opens a laundrette*
...funny you say that...I know a guy who's looking to give it a try...
Interesting, I remember looking into the T21 miner. Bitmain advertised it as being made for harsher climates (114 ambient temperature). I wonder if they used the technologies you mentioned.
It would be awesome if they did, but from what I hear, they are using the same basic tech in all their miners. They have a few different chip designs/architectures, but it still is all silicon technology. :-( IMHO, I think we need to have the hashprice drop a bit more before mining becomes unprofitable enough for the big guys to start looking harder at heat generation as the primary function of mining. When the big miners start needing high temp. chip technology, the miner HW builders will capitulate. Given where hashprice is going...that might be sooner than we think ;-)

Proof of concept successful! Commercially viable? We’ll see :)
Yeah...Like I said...we need hot miners. If we get them a whole new world of applications opens up!
it still might be viabkle if you combine the system with the central heating system , any way to get the system to run full trottle and not overheat it whont make youre laundry dry faster but it does make more fficient use iof the heat generated now the current radiator stack might not allow the system to run at full power but you can run a second heatexchanger after the stack and run the hotter fluid through the stack first then through the second heatexchanger to cool it down to the point that it doesnt overheat the miner
Yup! I run the rest of my home systems that way...a dry cooler being used as a make-up cooler. For this dryer build, I was trying to keep things simple and self contained, but I think without that constraint, there's lots of options like this to use mining heat in the home.
Love it !! Thanks bob 🎉
Actually, I lied a question just came up. I was wondering, with the dual thermostat zone valve setup, if my home heating system uses a heat pump, would turning on the air conditioning also turn on the valve? In this situation, would I have to somehow detect when the pump is not running O (Reverse)? Am I right and is there a type of valve that can do that?
Great question...with the heat pump, this introduces a bit of complexity and there's a couple different ways this can work. I think I'd need to understand a little more about how your existing setup is configured. If you want, get a hold of me on telegram: t.me/HBIM_Channel I think we can figure out what might be the best option.
Love that you took the opportunity of your furnace breaking down to explain/show two different applications of heating with miners. Thank you
Yeah...I figured I'd make the best of a not-so-great situation 🙂
Really amazing! You answered all of my questions, you covered everything thank you!
How many kwh does it consume for 24hours running at 104ths s19j pro full day
3.068kW x 24hours = 73.632kWh
Good question. Nominally, the model uses 3100 W (manufacturer's number). So for 24 hours that would be 3.1x24 = 74.4 kWh. But...with the Braiins OS, the power use is ramped up or down depending on autotuning and power scaling. My miners have always been run with power scaling so I really don't have my own numbers.
Mas esse taxa DEV, ser paga uma única vez ou tem que pagar todo mês 🇧🇷🇧🇷
you are not engineering this correctly because the dryer has a heating element that you are trying to heat with air. This heating element needs to be connected by metal to your sk19. The source of the heat is metal, but you are trying to transfer air to heat a heating element. This will not work. it doesn't matter how fast the air blows, the heat will back up cause it's not leaving its source fast enough. Keep working on it. I want to see the final result.
LOL... who cares , it's a ll a massive con job, there is NO WAY you can generate the hash rate needed to compete in the current market.
Looking forward to part 2
you would think that if the miner can only run up to 85 degrees than thats about the temperatiure you can pump intoo the dryer transfered from the oil still 85 degrees is hotter than the ambient air so the electric part of the dryer can switch off sooner (they usually measure the airtemperature and the machine continues once the set limit is reached ) you basicly keep all the hookups in the dryer stock and just tap intoo the heater coil to trigger a relay to start the miner setup then run the hot fluid straight from the miner trough a large coil of copper tubing bend around the inside drum and outer shell now because the dryer needs more heat the fluids comming out will probably be hotter than they came in so you would need a bigger radiator to cool it back down to ambiant to send it back intoo the mining rig it might be a better idea to just hook the dryer up to youre central heating network that allready gets heated by youre mining operation the machine connected to the network with a home radiator style thermostatvalve or an electricly operated valve running of the electricity out of the dryer , and use the stack of radiators you have now without all the current mining stuff connected to it to heat the air going in , might need to resolder the pipe connections so the radiators flowing paralel instead of in series (you want all of them as hot as you can get them and as mush flow of hot water you can push through them for the most efficiency ) , you managed to controll the miners temperatures hooked up to the heating so that should work up to a point (still need more heat for drying and you might need to increase the hashrate on those miners during drying to keep the heat as high as it is without the dryer running unless you have a heatbuffer build intoo the system) you might still need to add an electric heater inside the dryer to help along with the mining heat put intoo the machine might need to experiment with airflow too , think more flow would help the hot air get through the big lump of wet laundry inside the spinning drum and remove the moist air out faster helping the laundry to dry out as for the s19 in its homemade tank ...... just let it pump fluid in and out of youre big mining tank (piggyback) , should do ok then as long as its not too hot outside for the radiator of that system to loose the extra heat generated by the extra miner
hears the man talking about the safety issues and thinking , hmmmm maibe i should gift my mother in law a new dryer .......🤣
Thanks for watching - Learn more about mining bitcoin at home: www.youtube.com/@HBIM_Channel
could build the radiator inside the drum or use a big copper coil in between the outer shell and inner drumm , the dryer uses a temp sensor so should controll the last few degrees with the stock heating coil
Yeah...my next episode covers my build...watch and you can see how I tried my first attempt!
Bitcoin is the future
100% Agree!
I have a minor in my basement
LOL! Missed that one...the auto-subtitle tool loves to replace miner with minor...and make me sound bad.
dez
so clean, nice work
since every next generation miner gets longer/taller , it mightve been a good idea to make the tank a few inches taller so replacing the s19 with the s19 doesnt involve replacing the whole tank
Agreed...having some extra room around the miners in the tank is great insurance against any minor changes in miner size and aspect ratio!
