Dragon Ball GT is where Goku arrives on time almost for all the fights and all the fights with a few exceptions center around him the whole time. OP doesn't get Dragonball himself. Super harkens back to the scrappy tactics of Dragonball original, while keeping the high octane action of Dragon ball Z without sidelining characters for Goku story arc alone which Dragonball GT absolutely did. Yamcha is the only one who doesn't really get love in Super but he gets even less love in GT as he is barely in it. If you watch a GT fight and you watch a super fight a GT fight always centers around Goku pretty much and everyone else is mostly an accessory except in the very first arc. In Super, any character who is not Yamaha matters at least sometimes.

I feel like OG Dragon Ball, as time goes by, will feel more nostalgic and heart-warming as it drew inspiration from the Chinese legend of the Monkey King, featuring mythical creatures, dragons, and Goku’s tail, flying Nimbus, and staff, all reflecting the Monkey King’s traits. It focused on action and adventure, with quests to find the magical Dragon Balls that grant wishes. In contrast, Dragon Ball Z shifted to a more action-oriented tone, emphasizing battles based on power levels rather than the classic adventure tone of when it was beginning. Akira Toriyama likely intended this tonal shift to appeal to a more mature audience in a way, letting the series grow up with its readers while still retaining some of the series' chaotic charm.

Og dragging balls doesn’t exist. It’s one continuity. In the manga “Z” started a week after dragon ball. It’s the same dragon ball from the pilaf saga to the buu saga.

Db and dbz are the same why separate one manga dbz becomes much more better when you see the og and you appreciate db more when ending dbz

I don't agree that DB is better than DBZ, because I felt so much more emotionally invested due to the constantly high stakes, but DB is definitely so underrated. DB was so more fun reading and watching than DBZ. You stated every reason I love DB. The characters are so freaking adorable, funny af, and serious at times when it matters.

Nice video but I just hard disagree, its definitely preference but I felt the ''Z era'' had far better character writing, development of characters and story as a whole. With that being said, it isn't complete with ''OGDB'' or the first 194 chapters, I usually just refer to it as DB the manga, sense its not a separate story, and only so in the anime variation.

Good point and video sir. For me personally, og DB kinda isn't full without Z, without some powerscales, without hairy muscular aryan men. But I feel I'd like to change some moments, to make Z more dramatic and serious, cuz sometimes it wasn't. Won't talk about super, but will talk about Dragon Ball kakumei. Maybe you heard about it. This fan manga just surpassed for me whole Super and it's disadvantages. Yeah there's also some cliche moments, but it's good, it's something new, some movement. Artstyle it's an another level. I'm reading it 2 years and I'm still excited what's will be next, and story isn't even in the middle, it's like only starting.

Few things hit harder than in the last arc of OG DB, after Goku grows up, when you realise that Kid Goku is basically gone forever. Adult Goku is cool and all but if you've experienced his young adventures, you genuinely miss kid Goku.

Dragon Ball has gone off the rails. It's really just about 'my new form can beat up your new form' now. I used to think the Buu saga was pretty wild in that department, but it has reached truly ridiculous heights with Super. There also seems to be no real meaningful direction to the story or character development, it's just, "A NEW FOE HAS EMERGED.. AGAIN.. AND HE IS KILLING PEOPLE FOR FUN..CAN GOKU DEFEAT HIM WITH HIS NEW FORM (that's the narrator voice)??This series is just old and played out now, not to mention predictable. They should have just stuck to movie features.

It’s crazy when Dragon Ball fans fight for the fact that Dragon Ball has a story, yet they’ll be honest and admit they’ve never seen the original series but continue to say it tells an amazing story when you don’t even know half of the original material? 😂

I'm super thrown off by the sudden super HQ footage of kid goku in his GT outfit with purple haired young Bulma, where is that from? Imo the world of DB feels magical and larger then life. There's talking animals and all characters have something to do or can contribute in someway. In DBZ suddenly the world is a normal world? where flying and stuff is weird? Despite everything seen in DB? And there's talking animals? But flying is where they draw the line? With the introduction of Saiyans all other characters that are NOT saiyan get boring, they can't transform. And to me DBZ is boring because all it really is is "Wow this villain is super strong the power level is off the charts we stand no chance!" and then they ask the villain if they can get some time to train and the villain is like "Sure no problem! Its more FUN that way" and then they train, get so strong that they beat the villain and then a new villain arrive and the new villain beats the heroes easily! and then they ask the villain if its ok if they train and the villain is like "Okay its more fun that way" and then they train and maybe get a new transformation, and beat the villain maybe easily, but then a new villain shows up and beats the new form easily! and they ask if its ok if they train and the villain is like "okay" and it repeats like that.

Great take! To this day I still think the Red Ribbon saga is the peak of Toriyama's creativity, drawing prowess and his gusto for adventure. It features so much of the stuff he loved to and excelled at drawing, all those soldiers, and machines, and monsters and colorful characters, perfect blend of comedy and some amazing action too. It has Tao Pai Pai which is the coolest villain and I'll always think Number 8 is the most underrated character in the series. A guy that was created stronger than Goku but a complete softy pacifist that only fought to protect him, it really made you care about the world. Honestly, if you haven't, you should check out Dr Slump to check out the comedy end of the sliding Comedy <--> Action scale Toriyama slid. It's humor isn't for everyone, but it does have terrific artwork from the start, and you can see lots of seeds of what DB became being planted, surprisingly, all the martial arts stuff with Tsukutsun. These comics had such amazing art man, they made their anime adaptations feel 20 years older than they are hahah.

Honestly, after I got to the one piece time skip I really started to rethink time skips in general. They’re just not always iconic or as memorable or well written as their original part 1’s. When you get to the time skips, they become more popular but more flaws are added! More characters are added, some you care about and some you don’t, but the world expands way too large to the point where nobody knows what is going on anymore after several years have passed in part 2! But I’m talking about from a writing perspective, we should always love our favorite series regardless of its flaws. But I’m just saying noticing the difference is so obvious when you get to the time skip.

Same, Dragon Ball never gets the same recognition that Z does because it's "slow and not action-packed as Z." It disappoints me when people skip Dragon Ball just to get to Z Toriyama probably would've been disappointed if he heard that fans skip Dragon Ball and only watched Z Also, the story is so much better when you start with Dragon Ball

The world-building felt larger in OG DB which fell off a bit when going into Z. I know a lot of people who went back to watch OG after going through Z, great video might have to re-read dragon ball again lol.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had issues with Super. I fell out with Dragon Ball for a while, but I gave in and decided to watch Super and almost felt like I was watching an abridged series. Goku felt like he had been flanderized all to hell. Like in previous series, he could be goofy and a bit of a doofus, but never to the level seen in Super. Like he doesn't know what kissing is? I would expect that from kid Goku from the OG Dragon Ball, not adult Goku who's in his 50's. And Vegeta felt like he had undergone some character regression when he was back to "I have to be better than Kakarot!!" Like am I crazy in thinking he was over that at the end of Z? Also most of the arcs in Super dragged on way too damn long, especially the Tournament of Power. I have issues with GT, to be sure, but as far as sequel series go I think I prefer it to Super.

I’m going to sound like a nerd so bear with me. Let me be real with you. It seems like you were a little bit Bias. Like yeah the messed up the characters is Super. But GT had bad animation and kinda bad storytelling. Low-key Trunks character development, didn’t develop in super but someone like pan was really annoying in Gt, being a brat and all. Also Gogeta and Vegito are completely different, Like even in Z, they mention how mortals don’t stay fused and in super Vegito used up all their power before the 1hour time limit causing them to defuse. They also both have different move sets and personalities. Onto Dragon ball Z, Super saiyan 3 wasn’t just some New Power up to try to defeat a villain. It was to stall time for Goten And trunks to get stronger. Even Goku said he could defeat Buu if he wanted to but purposely didn’t. Ssj3 also had no build up like all the other forms. It just magically showed up out of nowhere, like even in Z they mentioned the God Of Destruction leading up to Super, but GT just completely Back tracked and didn’t even mention Beerus again. All the forms in super are justified and make sense to the whole “Out of the Universe” thing. I know you said both of them sucked but. GT was worse. (Not as bad as Evolution was)

After Daima, i think GT deserves an apology. It got too much heat and unwarranted hate. I was part of that Dragon Ball group. But now i have changed. I have seen far worst.

i have a very fragmented relationship with anything after z. i enjoy the modern sagas more than id like to admit although i really wish they wouldnt exist. i fell in love with the og dragon ball in the mid 90s where it was about a kid with a tail fighting some bad guys. when guys like piccolo were the pinnacle of evil. dragon ball should have ended after the cell saga with the most powerful of forms being gohans ss2. and dont get me wrong, there is a lot i love that came after it and a lot i hate that was before. but power creep really escalated too far with super saiyan god super saiyan or whatever they call it. freeza was a reasonable villain, retconed, but it was woven in almost flawlessley. making sense of the heriatge of vegeta and goku (planet vegeta, saiyans and such). cell came a bit out of nowhere tho we got future trunks and connections to the already established red ribbon army and dr gero. it started with buu, which was created out of thin air with few to 0 connections to any prior events. and super, yeah... idk. dragon ball went from martial arts to "when he sneezes the universe explodes, maybe" edit: i forgot why i initially started writing this comment... so, yeah. i liked gt because is was more grounded. yes, we got ss4 and stuff but it felt more like the og db again.

Tbh, the Sasuke Rescue Arc and its aftermath is exactly why I went from liking Sasuke to despising the fucker lol. I just plain hate how willing he is to give everything away to join the Big Bad; it drops any qualities I could find admirable with him in the trashcan. Reversely, it's Bakugo's mirrored arc of getting captured and strongly refusing to join the bad guys that cemented him as "not a Sasuke" to me, and thus worthy of respect for at least having standards.
