Fashion - Move On with Troy Tate live on the Old Grey Whistle Test 1982
July 1982 Fashion have just got back from New York after playing at the first new music seminar with Africa Bambaataa and Haircut 100 (an interesting gig in more ways than one!) - they go into rehearsals in London for their appearance on BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test the following day. Dee Harriss the singer and main song writer in the band fails to turn up and no-one can contact him - band cancels tv show appearance.
As it turns out Dee has left the band, he just forgot to tell the others! The band immediatly return to Birmingham and hold auditions at UB40's studio, these are invite only auditions. Alan Darby turns up and band really like him as a guitarist, next in is Troy Tate and band really like him as singer - both are in the band. Less than 3 weeks after Dee quits the band the new band performs on The Old Grey Whistle Test, which goes out live from the Riverside Studios Hammersmith in London in their first ever live show and play 3 numbers - This is the first number.

This was the first single released from the Twilight of Idols album, which was also the bands last album. After Dee Harriss quit the band in 1982 Alan Darby and Troy Tate joined the band, after a few months Troy left to pursue a solo carreer and the band recorded the last album in France with Zues B Held producing.

Possibly the most well known song by Fashion. There was another version of this video made, which was a bit steamy, similar to the alternative Girls on Film video duran duran made at the same time, but have never seen it although I was at the video shoot, but the steamy scenes were shot on a closed set. The video was actually made in an old georgian house in central london which was empty at th...

This video was shot on a very wet stormy night in the inner courtyard of Somerset House in London I know because I was there. Cant remember who directed it but I do remember he wanted a shot of Mulligan's Roland Jupiter 8 synth, which cost at the time about £3000, sitting in the middle of the courtyard with the rain pouring down on it. Needless to say the synth didn't work very well afterwards a...

Soundcheck for the bands first show at the Grand Clapham London 1991, i'm wandering around in it somewhere trying to look busy
...but I love that little known track; th-cam.com/video/KLRDh6dC6G8/w-d-xo.html
An amazing forgotten track from the 80s. Killer guitar. There was more of it then, but everyone remembers only Sandra in the pool from those times. Fashion's previous guitarist (Dave Harris) recorded an album with Rick Wright in '84 as a duo Zee.
If you didn't buy this album in 1982 ,you weren't hip. This album is a classic.Produced by ZeusBHeld.Unique band with a strong sound.Different from the DuranDuran rip off of Japan .Independent from the Human League/Heaven17 sounds.FASHION was a great band.
It was an average band who made one masterpiece ! - YOU IN THE NIGHT. I highly recommend this song. It's a real pearl !!!!!
This band make oasis look pathetic 😅
Found the vinyl one year at a vinyl sale. Best purchase ever!
This song appear on The 80’s mix and I had this on cassette.
Miami Vice: The Prodigal Son
Love the ladies and the lizard strutting down the street!
One of those best and underrated albums this tune is from!
En 1982, j'avais 14 ans...Un soir, sur la radio FM, J'ai écouté ce son... J'ai trouvé ça génial ! 💫
Fabriqe fantastic album jeff swanses
This was cool and magic
Great track. I wish it was on Spotify or somewhere similar.
would love to see this in H.D. 🔥🔥🔥
great choon ❤❤❤
Great song, but I miss Johnny marrs harmonica!!😎🤩🎶📻
That early 80's sound... Love it
absolutly right awsome song, very undertaed, always listen to this track from time to time, great vocels love it
Immense
I remember having this record and disliking it. Then, I heard it being played on Kroq and it immediately became my favorite song, not even realizing that I already owned the record. Sometimes it takes someone else playing the music, at the right place and time for you to like certain songs. What changed for me was the context. The song was playing on the beach, in a crowd, in the sun. In that context the song took on a whole new meaning and vibe.
Should have been massive for sure. 👍
Great song !
Any one know what they are doing or where they are ?.
1:35 or so in this.. 🔥🚀
Whatever happened to Alan derby
I live in a 1981-1982 time loop ... Rick Astley? Donald Trumpet? Elon what?
I consider 1982 to be a high point in popular music.
I was a skinny little whippersnapper just starting to go clubbing with my girlfriend when Fashion had their five minutes of fame with Move On then Street Player. I thought Mulligan was Uber cool at the time, although I couldn't work out if he was white or black, young or old! He certainly looked like a star, wonder what became of him...
Mulligan is a high end tailor , working in London .
@@Steegan3609 That's good news.
@@Steegan3609 Tailor? Last I read it was art/photography. But tailoring isn't surprising.
Great tunel. I bought a few of their singles should have been bigger but who cares they did some terrific music that I enjoyed.
Dee Harris, what a fuking bass player
He played 6 string guitar.
@@michaelmac1798 played bass when I saw them
@@neilharvey5161 was that the whole set or did he change to 6 string on some songs?
@@michaelmac1798 He played both. I'm pretty sure of that. Mulligan of course played bass in Fashion mk. 1
Doesn't the singer sound like Phil Collins?
In my top 100 of 1982! Great year for new wave that went deeply into electronic.
I love this song, it reminds me of better times, ie, my youth!!
They should have been massive!
I was doing stage sound ♠♪
Just heard this for the first time today. I thought it was Jon Anderson of Yes
Jon D’Art - let me know if you pass this way… The Stick
Amazing, they should have been more known as a cool band from the wild New Wave Period. My sister introduced me to them, I still have the album!
Idole
Блядь, не могу избавиться от ощущения, что Duran Duran написали свою Wild Boys, вдохновившись этой песней.
this song has few views and is a gem, bad bunny is the worst singer in the world he has no talent and babble and has millions of views that's sad
JEEZ, I will never understand why the did not become a really big band, they had so many gr8 songs, as soon as i heard them i loved them, they were just so good.
..amazing that i’m not the only one who bought this back in the day and were blown away..Street Player is good example of a group sound which had great keyboards and synths but were not subservient to them!..in a arena that was very crowded at the time, i thought this album really stood out..it’s raw, it’s funky..and early tech sounding all at once..i’m gonna have to say it “this sh*t is too advanced for some folks”..from the days of modular..the Yamaha CS-80 and early Sequential Circuits stuff, etc..nuff said!..stay safe and stay strong..New York May 22, 2022..
I wish I still had all the 12 inch singles I bought back then...........
Great band.
As good as anything around at the time and better than most. What a great great sound. A
Heard this in Wellington 83'They were the Vice of electronic funk before Miami's Crockett and Tubbs hit the screens in the mid 80's
This throws me back 40 years to endlessly listening to this track on a compilation cassette called "Modern dance". google that caseete and play through those tracks....absolutely TOP stuff.
OMG i forgot about that album, i had the cassette too!, so many good tracks from great artists on there! this track is still amazing 40 years on, such an underated album....wish i could get it on Spotify :(
I had that album on vinyl. Should add that I still have it. Was searching through some old vinyl and there it was !
I too had that compilation on cassette and it helped shape my musical tastes. Is this the only mainstream music compilation that had such an impact?
Yes!we’ve still got the album on vinyl.I remember dancing to that album when I was a kid with my mum.Great songs!
..😂..👍
Fan fucking tastic. Height of their powers.
I saw them live in '82 at Derby Assembly Rooms - absolutely amazing gig I still remember nearly 40 years later!
This song should have been a huge hit.
I can remember I was at a friend's house when I first saw this video and was instantly struck with them. Saw them live twice in Sheffield and Bradford both with different lead singers (remember Troy Tate?) . King and Kajagoogoo were the support acts and somehow they managed to get in the charts. Have this on cassette along with several 12" singles.
