    Dude I'm glad i found this channel. I sold my HD Low rider last year, now trying to decide between a 24 Africa Twin AS and a 2019 Road glide 128 kit (9k miles)... What do you think, what would you go for? I'm 100% on road riding, just to have fun.. Never met any HD riders going for adv bikes lol, I thought I may be the only one..

    • @MeathedMoto
      @MeathedMoto 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My issue was the Road Glide was always the next thing and the next thing to do to it. I rode it and enjoyed it but I always was trying to make it into something it wasn't designed to do..and to continue to do that would require more and more money. As far as a crush miles bike the Road glide is a great bike with plenty of torque and capabilities. However for me, I wanted a bike I could crush miles but then school people in the twists on. That if I found a gravel road leading up to the top of a mountain the bike would be sure footed and happy doing so. I can load it up or strip it down depending on the ride I'm doing. The KTM has just been a better fit for the riding I love doing

      @@MeathedMoto nice bro, appreciate the insight! The upgrades are a big one.. I was the same way with my Low rider, it was upgrade after upgrade.. At the end of the year, the $$$ spent on the bike stacked up and I’m like this doesn’t make sense! Then, there is no re sale value trying to trade it in, I lost over 50% in a year. I like the Africa Twin, seems extremely reliable and a lot more versatile than a Road Glide. Plus there’s not an unlimited amount of upgrades to do lol.. thanks dude, really appreciate it!

    I tell you what... 883 Sporty, Dyna-Glide, Soft tail and various Japanese bikes over 35 years. 5'9" and 165 lbs, mid 50s. The FLHX or Street Glide, which I own today, is the best balanced bike in the Harley lineup! The Sporty or Dyna are far more squirley and easier to lay over. Trust me I've also wrecked a few as well. Keep ass glued to the seat, roll hips in turns, learn the clutch and rear brake, stay off the front brake under 15 mph. As I always tell people, if you know how to ride, better know how to wreck them as well.

    Greetings from Europe ( Ireland 🇮🇪). Adv bikes are popular here. Likely because many people use bike as commuters. The weather here is always crap. These bikes make sense as commuters. Naked bikes far outweigh adv bikes here , however. ADV are butt ugly, i think people are more concerned with aesthetics in the US too which may be a factor. I myself have a Streetfighter V4s grey Nero. I’m a fair weather weekend rider who does the occasional light tour so it suits me fine. I don’t need 17 boxes 📦, heated grips, radar controlled cruise control.

    • @MeathedMoto

    • @MeathedMoto
      @MeathedMoto 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It helps that there are a number of ADVs with plenty of power like the Ducati Multstrada V4 and my KTM is not short on power either. The ADVs are also not as dorky as sport touring bikes tend to be where it's not sport bike enough to be cool.

    • @JD-fd6gt
      @JD-fd6gt 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MeathedMoto Ducati Multistrada V4 is a bike I would not mind riding, plenty of power. It weighs about 540 pounds with a tank of gas though... so it will feel like a big bike compared to a 400 pound supersport... its just a completely different ride. The weight makes so much of a difference.

    • @MeathedMoto
      @MeathedMoto 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Coming from and 850 pound bagger I thing 500 pounds is light as fuck. Weight makes a difference in cornering and handling but the handlebars are generally wider and flatter on the adv bikes so you actually negate the weight when cornering because you have more leverage. Weight also is a benefit when it comes to dealing with the wind. Heavier bikes tend to handle crosswinds better than a lighter machine in my experience

    I can answer this, most riders in the U.S have no idea how to ride and are intimidated by heavy bikes. Commuting on a motorcycle is looked at as silly in the U.S so most just buy an uncomfortable and impractical sport bike.

    • @MeathedMoto
      @MeathedMoto 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    its a misunderstood segmemt first, if the front adn rear are both 17 inches its not a adv bike, so verys 650 etc are not adv bikes they are corssover/sport tour second, adv bikes are the WORST of both worlds, full of compromises third, price. a flasgship adv bike costs the same as flagship sport or cruiser bikes. so mght as well get the flagship thats better loooking which will be a sport or cruiser bike fourth VERY few people want/need one bike for on and offroad. just get a streetbike, and an enduro second if you want to offroad more etc

    • @MeathedMoto
      @MeathedMoto 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd disagree on the worst of both worlds. Have you ridden one longer than a test ride? Because mine is more comfortable than my old Road Glide ever was and is more manageable weight wise. May not be as amazing offroad as a true dirtbike but I don't see people doing the Pan AM trail on many straight up endures. And it being more expensive? What are we comparing. Because a Street Glide from HD is a 23k bike with less tech, power, mpg, and space for storage than a KTM Super Adventure with hard bags and I can pick up a KTM for 22k. Plus with most of the ADV market having a version of their flagship ADV having a street oriented set up or an offroad setup you can have a bike that is capable in either segment depending on your usage.

One of my really good friends is a Harley owner, his wife started looking at bike and of course she started looking at HD. 5-10 year old Sportsters going for almost $10k. I suggested she get a a brand new Rebel or Shadow, smaller, lighter, cheaper and a warranty. She quickly dismissed that and was head strong on the HD. I asked her what makes the HD so much better? Her reply was a simple shrug and said. “It’s a Harley” She and probably 99%” of people have that mindset. It’s sad, really sad the hold HD has in the states.

    At 63 years old, I have a very similar story, but no kiddos. I recently sold my 2018 ultra classic HD. I called it my rolling pig because of the weight. Three months ago I bought a brand new KTM 890 Adventure standard model. Just broke it in, first service done, now I’m rocking and rolling. Coming from 1000 pound motorcycle to my KTM, which weighs I believe less than 500 pounds is like riding a bicycle. I’m smiling, and giggling every time I hop on this bike and ride it. PS not looking back. To the big heavy bikes that I’ve always ridden…. Enjoy your new ride, and many smiles to you.

      Agreed. The adv bike is the best of a lot of worlds. Lot of them with sport bike power and performance, great fuel economy and comfort for the distance riding. I could own a Harley again as a second bike but this style will be my primary from now on. Ride safe my friend!
