Palomar Knot: Forget about the "Directions"
When tying a dropshot rig using the infamous Palomar knot, it is sometimes tricky to always make sure the hook is pointing up. There are many instructions telling you you need to thread the line or place the hook through the loop in certain directions, etc; and thread the tag. However, you actually don't need to pay attention to any of these...just tie it up, and then use this "Magic Trick", you can have a perfect Palomar every time without even thread the line tag.

Rods: WHY Length and Weight are almost Pointless: look for these 2 HIDDEN specs instead
มุมมอง 8Kหลายเดือนก่อน
When talking about long rods and short rods, we often only refer to the rod total length. Actually the entire rod industry tends to do so. However, for artificial bait fishing such as bass fishing and trout fishing where a lot of wrist casting is involved, how much rod is actually constantly being used is not always reflected by its total length. Same can be said about the rod weight. A lot of ...
Not about Who is Better: This HUGE Difference of Shimano vs Daiwa that No One is talking about

Shimano and Daiwa, whose reel runs superb? Not sure if there will be a correct answer. Both being top notch performers, it makes less sense to say which one is out performing the other. However, looking back for 20 years of modern fishing reel history and milestones, I found some interesting difference in terms of the way both companies roll out the tech updates on the fishing reels. #shimanore...

    I am no fanboy of any reel manufacturer. I regularly use Penn, Penn Internationals, Accurate, Duel, Avet, Miya Epoch and of course Shimano and Daiwa. I bought a Daiwa Saltiga Dogfight to try it out several years ago. I am disappointed in this reel. After a year, the gearing started to make noise and you could feel the grinding while reeling. Also, the paint came off in several places. I shelved that reel and only recently sent it back to Daiwa to fix it. Whereas, the high end Shimanos which are much older, has not exhibited any problems or cosmetic blemishes. My buddy also bought a Dogfight at the same time and his paint is also coming off. I fish from my boat so only salt spray hits the reels and upon return, they are sprayed with salt away and then washed with freshwater.

    I have an 8010 xt-7 baitrunner bought in 1988 still works a dream i was 15 and used all my christmas money on it , its still in perfect nick , never had to replace anything in it or on it used in the sea for mackerel and freshwater, rinsed an oiled after every use , having never had to replace it , did shimano make it too good or are they just absolutely honourable to their commitment of high quality products. Sadly many daiwa reels i have had have suffered broken reel posts and bail arm and failed gearing systems , these are manufactured i think in a number of european plants . Daiwa aren't bad products but wear out quicker than shimano in my experience.

      @BassniperEng 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's more of a semi-slack, not pig-tail slack if using fluorocarbon. When using fluorocarbon, no problem detecting semi slack line bite. Braided will require relatively tighter line control to be able to feel all the bites.

    In regards tot he paint, freshwater fisherman throw too many rods on the deck unnecessarily and that's why you see so many rods snap and complete setups fall in the water. The front deck of most bass boats is a cluttered mess and anglers step on and kick them around so of course you're going to mar them up. I've seen it exactly the same on ALL reel brands including Shimano, so your Daiwa reel you showed here was probably kicked os stepped on or you took it fishing in streams and it hit rocks. Although Daiwa is the only company to have publicly stated that reels should ideally last you 2-3 years, EVERY Reel manufacturer wants to say the same because they want you to keep spending money on their products.

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well I don't ever throw my rods around lol boat rash are common but taking painted middle tier for comparison, 20 Metanium vs 21 Zillion, man, I have scratches on Metanium but that does not lead to chip or peeling off after 4 years. Zillion showed that in 2 weeks. They stay in the same rod locker. Now I suspect perhaps my Shimano reels conspired a scheme together toward the Zillion lol

      I recently gave another brand a try, bought their flagship model, love a lot of the feature and designs, but when it comes to retrieve smoothness and casting, I have to admit its not even close, plus the one I got, the start drag was not centered. That is unacceptable for a $500 reel. It's like cars can have all the bells and whistles and even talk to your wife perhaps, but when you step on the accelerator, it bogs~for me, I'm staying with S and D, mostly S.

    I have two Daiwa GS9 Surf fishing reels that are still smooth as silk after 36 years of absolute abuse. It is time to restore them on the outside to original and hang them with the classics in my collection. Was let down by a Shimano rod, then went to ugly stik solid tipped rods with baitrunner Shimanoes which didn't stand the test of time.

    Good stuff! I've fished more Shimano reels than Daiwa. Longevity definitely counts, however, when parts become obsolete before I'm ready to discard a reel and purchase a new high dollar one it tends to chap my ass. I would rather put a few dollars in a reel that's provided great service than reinvest in one that may or may not perform as well. Proprietary parts for particular flagship models should be available longer. IMHO

The Shimano Vanford is my absolute favorite spinning reel I’ve user used. i have 4 of them in 5000, 2 in 3000, a 2500, a 1000 and a 500. But do I have some Daiwa reels that I absolutely love. Well done video, i own both. For many years i was pro Shimano. Started dabling with Diawa starting with TD Sol bait caster. I never got hang if Sol so put it away. Like 10 years later the Sol still being my only Diawa, i read an old review and realized this real typically should not have more than 10lb test. I drug it out and presto became one my favorites. I then began buying more Diawa. Several red/black CT Type R, several Zillion, 1 tatula. Now i tend to use diawa more. I feel shimano casts further. But i rarley back lash with diawa.

    I'm mainly a Daiwa guy, but I have owned and used just about every shimano ever released. For up to $300, I believe Daiwa and Shimano are just about equals and the difference becomes just preference. But for the top tier reels above that price range, I'd much rather spend $600 on an Antares DC than a Steez SV.....Shimano flagship reels are just a cut above Daiwa's value wise and what you get for the money. That's why the only shimano reels I still have are my Antares A, Antares DC, Metanium MGL, and Metanium DC. Again, this is coming from a 95% daiwa reel owner

    I’ve changed more Shimano Micro Module gears in my shop than any other brand. They just don’t seem to last very long at all before they get geary. I rarely come across a Daiwa with gear issues. That being said there are a lot more Shimano’s around here than Daiwa’s. Personally, after owing many Shimano reels I prefer Daiwa’s SV reels. No issues and the gears have stayed smooth.

Daiwa is more edgy, especially with the spider logos and what not. To me Shimano is like a well dressed businessman, Daiwa is like a fratboy party young adult wearing a toga and backwards cap.
