    I’ve been a teacher for over 20 years, and yes, what you’re saying makes sense. Think of a newborn baby. For a little bit, they just kind of rock along, eating, sleeping, etc. Then, progress happens so fast - rolling over, sitting, standing with help, standing alone, walking with help, walking alone. All of it built on the previous skills learned. Learning anything new is the same. Starts slow, then things begin to click, confidence builds, and learning speeds up a lot. Never stop learning!

    • @ryanpeachturner_art
      @ryanpeachturner_art วันที่ผ่านมา

      The learning compounds!! You’re right that’s totally how it is. I wish i thought of that, a new born is a perfect example for what im talking about

    I’m really feeling this right now. I started doing art in June of 2023 after not doing art basically since elementary school. I started petering out in May of this year and started a hiatus this July. I just wasn’t feeling it anymore and was disappointed with what I was making. The last week or so I’ve been wanting to get back into it, so I’ve done some little sketches and some brush calligraphy to start getting my mojo back. It’s really amazing to look back on what I’ve done since I started. I’ve definitely gotten better, and it doesn’t feel quite as hard yet this time. Perfectionism is a bitch though. But I want to make good art and keep going, so that’s what I’ll do. Thank you for the encouragement. Also I’m so excited to see the finished project of your cowboy, it looks dope!

    • @ryanpeachturner_art
      @ryanpeachturner_art วันที่ผ่านมา

      Perfectionism is really hard and can really deter motivation. I get it, maybe just try focusing on the act of doing? I think often times if you just show up and not focus on making anything good, that can really help move things forward. I hope you can beat the perfectionism bug soon! 🤞

    I have a few artist friends, and I can confirm that every single one, including myself, admits to never being satisfied with our final product. It’s not because the works are bad, it’s just how most artists feel about their work. I’m always saying to myself, I can do better, but I sign it regardless of how I feel at the time. But there are times when I run into a person who tells me they have a work I created many years ago, and when they show it to me, I actually say to myself, that’s pretty damn good. I think it’s important accept the fact that there’s always something new to learn. Don’t get yourself down if you feel your work is not improving, just look back on something you created a few years back and totally forgot about. You might be surprised by your reaction, as it turns out you can actually see how you have progressed. It’s like looking at your work through a fresh set of eyes.

    • @ryanpeachturner_art
      @ryanpeachturner_art 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes!! This same reason is why its important to step away from a piece in the middle of it. Theres been so many times I feel like what I’m making looks terrible and I know in that moment I need to take a break and come back with a fresh perspective. It usually helps identify what I don’t like but also, I often end up thinking it looks better than when I initially left it.

    • @SpaceMango
      @SpaceMango 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      It's so frustrating as an artist because you have this image in your head and you really want to replicate it, but when it doesn't come out as expected you get really disappointed. However, others who are observing your art have no idea what that image in your head looked like, so to them it looks great. That's my biggest struggle

    • @ryanpeachturner_art
      @ryanpeachturner_art 5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I used to really struggle with this. Something that helped me was switching my mindset. I started thinking of my pieces as “having lives of their own”. They’ll evolve and change and I can try my best to direct them, but the end result will always be different than the initial concept. Its important to do whats best for the art, and not hold on to your expectations.

  • @Astryca
    @Astryca 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    i don't think its exponential. the first few years, yes, but now i need to work a lot harder, and think and dig a little bit deeper for less progress. The curve flattens out, and progress gets slower. i agree a lot more with the curve at 4:05 though haha

    • @ryanpeachturner_art
      @ryanpeachturner_art 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah i think you’re right. I was more trying to explain the compounding nature that growing skills and learning can have on your progress. But yes I think when it comes to progress you do have to dig deeper at a certain point, especially with art.

    Thinking of doing the third exercise, AND on adding 50 "nature models" to the assignment. Like animals, trees, flowers. I'm taking drawing classes for beginners and I am getting kind of frustrated with the hiperfocus on the human figure. New to drawing and like the idea of "getting reps in" so I'm going to try the challenge. Any tips on where to start with the heads and the hands?
