Try out the Pecanpi DAC for raspberry Pi
Received the Pecanpi DAC for Raspberry Pi and I'm impressed by it's performance !
The PCB looks neat and very good quality, and surprised to see all capacitors are MLCC SMT capacitors, no electrolytic caps . Listening test proved that its works very well and the noise level is very low. Distortion is lower than my Scarlett Solo sound card .
The built-in high power switching power supply feeds the Raspberry Pi without any problem .
The Crystek crystal oscillator provide very low jitter clock to the DAC , and the DAC used a pair of the well known PCM1794 DAC chip.
The whole DAC can be a little bit warmer than others DAC when operate for a long while, which is quite normal.
The Picanpi DAC come with a volume control pot, and can be easily disabled by shorting the the jumper J3. For split power supply operation , just remove the jumper J2 and it cuts the power supply between the DAC and the Raspberry. I like the design which is actually used "R-pi DAC" as driver setting in Moode audio, Volumio , and many other music streaming distro.
The DAC came with a pair of high quality balance - unbalance adapter (XLR to RCA ). I make a mistake by using normal XLR to RCA adapter which is used in normal microphone, and the internal XLR connection actually shorted the -ve output signal to the ground, which worm up the op-amp and sounds a little bit distorted. Leo from Orchard Audio pointed it out and I quickly switched back to the original XLR to RCA adapter which came with the DAC and everything is back to normal. The Op-amp is robust enough to survive the abused I've made.
The music test at 4:40 was driving a pair of small fullrange speakers , in real life, the actual sound quality is much more better than my lousy recoding ;-) I should have invest on a good music recorder !
The sound quality is very good. Bass is tight and fast, and highs is silky and airy , with satisfying sound stage. Some might find that the price tag looks a little bit higher than any other sound card out there, for all high quality parts, such as expensive PCM1794 , Crystek clock , and OPA SoundPlus series op-amps, , I think its definitely worth the price and highly recommended for those whoo wish to upgrade their DAC to audiophile grade Delta-Sigma DAC.

Building Discrete R2R DAC Hat - Part 2
The distortion measured around 0.006%~0.009%, mainly 2nd harmonic, which is a good sign of good sounding DAC. The rest of harmonics are well controlled under -100dB range. This DAC sounds hash when I first fire it up, but back to normal after many hours of burn-in time. It sounds very analog / natural. I spent a few of months to choose best / suitable parts for this project, especially choosing...
Building Discrete R-2R DAC Hat - Part-1
Building my discrete R-2R DAC for Raspberry Pi. Part 1- SMD soldering and resistor matching. Hand-matching resistors are really time consuming. I pre-matched them in 0.05% batch, and re-match again down to 0.005% for 14 bit near to MSB. Before matching them , I need to heat up a batch of 0.1% resistors in the oven for 30 minutes and let it cool down. repeat 3 cycles and match them. This is to p...
Moode Audio VS Volumio VS Symphonic-Mpd J-test
A while ago, a few of audio forum friends mentioned about the Symphonic-Mpd from Japan , which is similar to Moode / Volumio but running a real time kernel and also software PLL jitter reduction. Most of them seems not really interested to try it out because they believe that it has no difference with Moode/ zvolumio. Here's a simple comparison test video. I also compared the sound quality and ...
3 hours of Burn-in tone/noise
Sold quite a lot of AD1865 DAC and AD1868 DAC for Raspberry Pi recently. I received quite a lot of emails and ask me what type of wav file I used to burn-in my DAC. I upload here for people who wish to burn-in their DAC, pre-amp, power amp etc. Please beware of the volume level. There are a lot of similar files out there, I created this because I found that some of the burn-in noise / tone are ...
MoOde audio version 3.8.4 VS 6.4 sound quality comparison
After 2 years of many MoOde audio versions , I compare the latest V6.4 with old V3.8.4 which is the only version with realtime setting option. The V3.8.4 running realtime with FIFO mode. The external USB sound card recording and youtube seems degrade the sound quality and make the 2 versions sounds virtually the same but with a pair of good headphone and slightly louder than I normally listen t...
DIY R2R NOS AD1865 DAC for Raspberry Pi - NOSPi DAC
Typo correction : 2.28 Nichicon, not Nichikon I'm looking for a good audiophile quality R-2R NOS DAC for my smaller raspberry pi projects, and some of my audiophile friends keep asking me to build for them too. After a quick search online , I decided to design my own . The result of this AD1865 based DAC are really good. R-2R DACs are immune to jitter, and produced very analog sound , good soun...

Hand winding custom output transformer
One of my local customer request for custom- made 832 PP amplifier. This is the output transformer I made for 832 PP project. The output are double C core type, with 0.23mm silicon steel. Building my Raspberry pi Zero with Moode Audio Player
Hi! What is the secondary voltage of the transformer? 2x15VAC or 2x18VAC ?
Where do you get bobbins and laminate core from?

It's a beautiful good sounding Amp ❤
Please! Buy a pot nut runner !

how about to spdif input to pwm for class d? need to downsample for lower the frequency for the mosfets. Oke can I order a pcb from you for build and test? I like it.
You dont know what you are doing with that piece of shit. Stop before you kill yourself and let someone who knows what they are doing work on it. Your as bad as the chinese who dont know how to build tube amps either.
You do realize your wasting a 100 k thats effectively non existant because your shorting it out. maybee you can get a fake car using this idea. The fact your using a 160 henry inductor tells me it takes up as much room as an interstage. a Luhndal interstage isnt much bigger than a cap.
What about picoreplayer ?
Your winding technique is quite impressive that the eindings rarely overlap.
Raspberry PI already has HDMI output for audio.
i have a dead amp i'd like to use as the chasis and power supply for the Amp Camp kit... how to I get the ACA, which is meant to take a 5A meanwell supply feed, to interface with the toroidal?
That is a “directional” RCA cable, which is the proper construction. It will be less prone to noise and also have better sonics. Glad to see someone doing it right
Nice video bro..can you help me..i need to know the data for 40%ultap 8kohms OPT for my on going tube amplifier..i build one opt but the sounds distorted..i need to know what is the internal connection of the winding..thanks a lot
Great Job ! Can you give me an idea were the phase (hot wire) at the main connestion terminal is? Left or right side. Unfortunately both uses wires inside are blue and not black and blue. Thanks!
Hi. My trusty Pathos Logos amplifier, having served me faithfully for nearly 20 years old, bit the dust recently. I turned it off and pulled out the original still-working tubes to replace them with new ones I got off eBay. When I turned back on there was no sound whatsoever! I put back the old tubes, even tried a third pair, and even ordered a 4th pair and still no luck. No sound at all. I'm also not seeing any glow from the tubes When I turn up the volume, I can hear the left speaker tic with each volume increment, (but not the right speaker), and otherwise no sound. Any ideas what might have caused this problem and what the fix might be? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
VPG (Vishay precision group) make 0.001% resistors (HZ and H lines) they have leads and therefore can be soldered without heating the resisitor itself with hot air - however they are impossible to find for sale anywhere. this could make an absolutely precise 16bit r2r
Wow…?! 🤷♂️
Beautiful job. Thanks for the great vid 🔊😊🎶
❤Weltklasse❤
So you've taken a balanced cable an unbalanced it? Why not just use an unbalanced cable instead?
You can’t make a directional, single-point ground cable from standard coax.
It would not be a balanced cable unless you had balanced connectors. RCA connectors are not "balanced". As I understand it, ground, _, and + are totally separate on balance cables.
I bought a pair of these Akai "tunnel reflex" speakers cheap in 1974 when I was in high school. I had high hopes because they looked so cool but was rather disappointed by the sound. Not much bass to speak of despite the reflex enclosure, highs are muted and midrange has a hooty, cupped hands coloration. Recently I ran into another pair and they sounded much as I remember 45 years earlier. Maybe some EQing might bring some joy but otherwise don't get too excited. I read rumours that the driver was made by Fostex but I kind of doubt it.
Symphonic-mpd turns off usb, thus less noise. Fing leaps in audio quality, can't go back to any other os.
This device is a Chinese replica of a German original - search for IXION Handbetriebene Standbohrmaschine (IXION Handcranked Drillpress). The company existed in Hamburg from 1919 to 2011. These hand drills were produced between 1920 and 1940. After the 2nd World War, the company manufactured heavy electric stand drilling machines for industrial use (deep drilling machines). These hand-operated drill presses were also copied in the Soviet Union and Cheslovakia. Thanks for your video - I didn't know there were Chinese copies until now.

We recently released the PecanPi+ DAC and Streamer. The DAC features the latest AKM 4499EXEQ R-2R chip.
Am I hearing the magic of Class A single-ended triodes plus full range open baffle speakers?
In the final demonstration here, what software are you using on the Pi? Is it actually 'player' software (e.g. Roon) or is it just functioning as a Bluetooth-enabled audio device?
Hi. I'm using Moode audio
Your DAC went from being overpriced in my mind to a tremendous bargain during the course of watching your TH-cam videos and the articles on your website. A tremendous amount of love, knowledge and effort goes into the many iterations of development and the creation of these pieces. It was a joy for me to witness your journey. Bravo!
the internal opamps in the ad1865 cip are garbage....you should use the current output and make your own i/v with some opa1612 or 1656 :) and that will bring the soul out of the ad1865 ;)
I did built AD1865 DAC with current mode + 5687 vacuum tube line stage with hand wound output transformers many years ago, . I make this simple and small DAC for Raspberry Pi with those left over chips just for fun , and also try out the shift registers to convert the I2S format from Raspberry Pi into AD1865. The current mode design can't fit in the small PCB for Raspberry Pi.
Sir its maid in Chana have name of company.
Mate, keep producing such good videos, and selling your DIY stuff, that's looks amazing <3

what is the transformer type that you used this build
SAD
Hi the primary inductance is high (45H) as expected for an iron core transformer. How is it possible to push any meaningful power thru such high resistance XL=282f esp at higher frequencies?
Sounds terrible! Maybe it’s that speaker causing the crunchy distortion and warble?
Yes, terrible sound for sure, using a pair of bare fullrange speakers, and my cheap cellphone as recording device.
I have like same bench drill very good can do many work. .
hi nice video. is it better to use a thicker cable like 8762 Belden
Really nice mate!😁
Yet another voiceless video!
Thanks
Great Video!. Do you know if the power transformer can be connected for 220V operation? Thank you

Hello, I'm a beginner in electronics, I did some recaps on devices and always got excellent results. I'm going to restore a telefunken hr 240 receiver, it has a tired sound and needs a recap, I'm not sure which capacitors should be audio and which ones don't, mainly, the source needs to be a capacitor for audio?
Hi, you might need to find a schematic and see which capacitors are in signal / bypass path .
Country or State are you located?
Hi, I'm in Asia region.
