If you want range I recommend Tomi Pizúr's cover of Hellfire... (6 OCTAVES!) (Also probably the lowest note in a professional music piece at the time... and hes GONE LOWER in a CRIMINALLY underated cover of Wayfairing Stranger) He has done over 5 MANY times... (No Time to Die, Sweet Dreams, etc.) 27:00 was "only" 3½...

One other bass singer I have to suggest is Tomi Pizúr. Some of my favourites from him are My Mother Told Me, Lullaby of Woe, No Time to Die and much more

I thought it was interesting in that the vocalists each had a part in Frollo's psyche. J None was asking for Maria to protect him, Eli is black - be mine or you will burn, Cesar blames God for making the devil so much stronger than a man. It is mesmerizing, evil and totally unforgettable.

Nice purr on that 'wide'. Geoff's high mark is Bb5 done in Peaches (short). This isn't a good one to miss the outro on!

6:50 hehe... I hear that as an implication that Geoff is a God (chill, obsessive christians, I am not claiming he's your god) and I think that's valid. Either that or a dragon. Or maybe a dragon god actually.

kinda looks like editing both vocal and video, 2 takes, and they had a slight overlap which gave a glitch visual/audio effect. Knowing HF, it's intentional, lol. Definitely held that note longer than original version. I'm not an editor so have no idea if that's possible.

If yo u haven't seen their version of The Lion Sleeps Tonight - while VioLayne is in attendance, Cesar is hitting new notes of C6 and D6, J None has been promoted to bass in the US Navy, but you wouldn't know to listen to him - high. They dance.

Think of what WE KNOW!!! The original was the SingOff version (the 1st they performed it), a LIVE version that was brilliant! --- which I do prefer to the "studio" version (taking nothin away from Avi!). WE KNOW what they can do LIVE --- so they are "VERIFIED"!!! <- Seen it for myself; had to! The re-makes changes up the "rights" I think! And why not have fun with it!?! Be Safe

That last note was a chest fry with extra air coming through it! I am a low bass ( g 0 ) on a good day in chest. In the sing off and the other recording it was a growl note. I respect what he can do! He is actually lower in chest than Geoff and most all of the other bassist in a cappella groups right now! First time listening to you! Good reaction! Low bass Kenneth

It’s still a cappella. It’s done in a reggae beat. Adam has some new sounds. There might be reverb but Tim has been going lower and lower the older he gets. He has a 5 octave range but maybe it’s closer to 6 now? Others will know more I’m sure.

You wish you could sing like Tim. There may or may not be production to give the last note it's depth and clarity, but you can't hold his jock strap as a singer!

I agree that Tim's heavy note at the end is a little over processed, but I believe it is his chest voice, or mostly. I'll tell you why. After listening to Home Free since the Sing Off & watching hundreds (or more) of reactions, including analyses from voice coaches, bass singers etc... I believe that in the Sing Off version & the second version with Avi, Tim used a growl. And in this version Tim is using his chest voice. You can distinctly hear the difference between the two, especially when you are familiar with Tim's bass. His chest voice is much more gravelly. His growl is more smooth and you can hear more air coming through. It sounds more like a low vibration or rumble, if that makes any sense. That's mainly why I think it sounds so different. I noticed that he's done that with all the really low notes that are in the songs from this new album. Where as before he would usually use a growl. I'm no expert so I could very well be wrong... but that's what I believe. Also, their Sing Off version of this song had a Caribbean/Reggae style to it. So they leaned more into that style for this version. Hence the bright colors, upbeat vibe etc. They even had the colors of the Jamaican flag in one part. Thank you for the video.

Yeah the last growl was highly edited you can tell, they made it louder and fuller, wider in your ears, so it doesn't sound human anymore. I liked version with Avi better, Chance is not a bass and sounds kinda weak in those money notes like E1, D2 and that "wild" C2 from Avi just hits different

I thought it was interesting when they brought in Chance as their baritone. In his previous group, he was the bass. In this video, that turns out to be a huge advantage because it frees up Tim to sing lead without sacrificing the bass part. That last note is interesting partly because he went so soft on the consonant that it came out as "pyre" instead of "fire." Usually, you substitute on a consonant in a fast section where the audience will barely even hear it. It really was an unusual ending.

I see what you mean, and I would argue that Tim's ending note on the original version is also highly edited. In both cases it's highly compressed and has some kind of filter to remove high frequencies and boost low frequencies. In this latest version it also seems like it's double layered. That being said, while the original was a growl, I think the new version might be chest fry.

I've seen them live 3 times and all 3 times they did this song as their "encore" song. And all three times I have heard it with Chance, but it was never THIS good. I really like the improvements

Just to clarify: I don't in the slightest think Tim's last note was faked, I'm aware of what he's capable of. A lot of production/mixing-mastering has been done on this version of the song in general. It's nice, but that last note sounds anything but natural *_anymore,_* not saying that it's fake. If I had to venture a guess, I think it's a growl (think I can still hear the air you get from a growl, plus the way he pushes into the note in the beginning of it is very reminiscent of a growl), combined possibly with something else (maybe even a chest G1?), or just heavily altered to sound the way it does. (The bass in the back sometimes sounds the same, but it blends better by being in the background.)

I'm glad someone had the same thoughts as me about that last note from Tim. I loved this version more than their previous versions as a whole, but I find that note from Tim a strange choice that they had it so full and electronic sounding. I was fully expecting the typical growl note and instead got a thick electronic sounding chest note (I think). Still, it's a great version overall and nice reaction 👍

This song has always been a fan favorite. What a great remake of "Ring Of Fire". It was first done on the "Sing Off" in 2013 & then later with Avi Kaplan. The visuals reminds me of "Fishin' In The Dark"/"Boondocks" (you may want to check that one out). Chance is a nice addition to this version. Of course love Tim's lows & Adam's awesome vocal percussion. I think he sounds even better this time.

They were re-releasing all the songs they performed on sing off. I couldnt wait for this

Glad you said that about maybe it's overproduced. I felt the same with some parts, but not for the last note. That was the part I felt was pure and not overproduced. In fact, Tim really can sustain those deep notes long (and loud) during live shows, so it's very difficult to say what is being edited and what's not. He has amazing vocal fold closure in his low range, so it's hard to say. Anyway, I see what you're saying about the production of it, but I just kind of felt like it was less produced this time, at least with his last note. Just my amateur opinion. In fact, I kind of thought maybe they were going for something less produced "sounding" this time. HOWEVER, to add, I thought the background was too loud during Chance's part. I wanted to hear his verse louder compared to background vocal, but that's a personal preference because I really love Chance's tambour, so I may be biased. Thanks for reacting to the guys again.
