Weeki Wachee River | Days After Hurricane Helene Hit
Days after Hurricane Helene hit the Gulf Coast of Florida, impacting all the springs and river, we went straight to Weeki Wachee River to help with the impact.
I launched from Roger's Park and began my cleanup journey. I spent hours just in the immediate area, then paddled up river.
I pulled out a ton of trash and saw the devastation first hand. You can see on each house where the water levels rose to. This lead to docks and kayaks being displaced. You will also see a port-o-potty and a FULL trash can in the river still. I collected so many chemicals from the river too.

Stay away from the manatees!
I was told you weren't allowed to swim with the manatees or go anywhere near them in the water
Kinda correct!! You aren’t allowed to swim with them or touch them! However, Kings Bay in Crystal River is the ONLY legal place you can swim with them with a qualified tour guide. You still cannot touch them but you can be in the water with them
I grew up in hudson back in the 70-80s. I tell you what it was the greatest place to Live back then. We swam with manatees year round. Never messed with them never touched them but they were way more than they are now. You wouldn't believe how much stuff. We pulled out of hospital hole when we were a kids🤫

I went to Florida for a week, I went to that place and saw no manatees but there is to much seaweeds.

I don't even like northerners are Midwestern or West Coast of United States coming to our natural springs they have destroyed everything they had now they trying to come to my state fix your stuff first before you start wanting to come down south.
