Disconnecting A Dangerous Rooftop Condenser Unit | Let's Work EP. 65
Large food distribution center needs 26 new rooftop HVAC units. It's our job to get them safe and disconnected, ready for the HVAC boys to lift em' out and place the new ones. Each condenser unit feeds an evaporation unit and has 3 control circuits from multiple locations. We don't want any arky sparky happening do we now?

Dude it’s like full of oil. So gross
did you label those yellow brown orange wires to keep the phase rotation?
@@StarCraftHeros yes
Appears the three pole contractor is breaking the grounded conductor ( ya neutral ) which if not from a generator is dangerous. If the contact on the neutral burns up would create a dangerous voltage to one leg of the single phase panel.
Horrendous LOTO practices. Gee....
When the light is green.. the trap is clean!
Why does the title say episode 64 if you already uploaded episode 64 3 days ago?
Good catch
@@Electchickn your welcome and no problem anytime
@ you’re*
Yeah. That's not a lockout or a tag out. P.S. don't stand directly in front of a disconnect when you charge it, and don't use your dominant hand to do it. Update your arc flash training. I see that B.S. happening on an MCC again and you're fired.
Bro the breaker sounds like the ones from the horror games
Wow ❤
warranty you fix today free fountain drink!
@@tyrstone3539 I have worked at these stations forever and they never offer free drunk :(
@ a shell like that owned by GPM or Majors never will
Isn’t the whole point of lock out tag it to alert people not to use the device, not to be secure?
I feel like for the purposes of off-grid ideals, this could have been done in an analog way, like relay logic
@@lucasimark7992 yes
12:00 Man! Just tear the whole gas station down and rebuild it at that point. Thing's a mess! 😬
The one person in America who ever got a job with zero experience or knowledge handling the nuclear launch codes while others can't even manage to get a job pushing paper with 10 years of experience. Don't be mean to a good youtuber. You probably don't even know anything about electrical. :(
@@SetCraft-pm9vk seriously! I was thinking the same thing. He never shuts up!!
@FireandSecurity331 I mean, I know enough grid scale and house electrical is downright stupid easy. I work with robotics while not high current or voltages it's arguably more complex because I actually have to use components for everything and solder. These guys just pull wire and connect terminals. Make sure you have the right breaker and/or fuse, and you're good for the most part. But tbh your comment is irrelevant to mine.
@Electchickn lol :D
"Swiping down" if on phone, "down arrow" if on pc, ways to move past the video, but nah you had to comment when no-one really cares, you added nothing here, no interesting topic, no constructive criticism etc, do better.
Good stuff
Why does it make such a huge boom when opening that thing?
i like your videos but theres too many cuts. it make the video less enjoyable to watch.
@@Yungbunie I use an auto cut feature on CapCut. In this video I had it on the wrong settings. That’s why the cuts look like crap. My normal videos are not like this. Glad you enjoy thanks for watching!
Its probably just a contactor on the line side wired into some n/c e-stop buttons. Sounds like you got this
My only problem is the disconnect should never be blocked for any reason there are shorts that will not trip the main breaker that can start fires , kill and cause injury and sometimes you need a human backup to determine this circuit needs to be opened ie switched off and you should not have to fight with a tag and cover to disconnect the power
You could always temp bridge the N/C wires on the switch side, install it then remove the bridge.
I love the video thanks for sharing I'm learning so much with your point of view approach though Listening to you whistling I've got to ask the question were you even born when the X-Files series played on TV lol😂
I'm glad it's your headache... Not mine.
My God, what place jury rigged this system?
Emergency shut off relay. Should be be a mushroom head stop button on the outside of the building plainly labeled "Emergency Shut-Off"
I imagine the kitty litter is their fuel spill cleanup measure. I wonder if osha would approve it
Yep Even firefigthers use it
@@jessicabulowrasmussen1710well there we go then :3
Gas station are the worse
That contactor is probably either bad or they wired it backwards so instead of being normally open and then when power gets put on, it goes closed providing power to the breakers panel
Nope, that is standard practice for a safety critical system. Think about it: IF it was wired as you suggest, the contactor coil would have to be *energized* to *kill power* to the pumps. OK in theory, not so bad. BUT.... What if the wiring to the E-stop buttons breaks? What if the button itself gets damaged and won't apply power when pressed? That means if any of those happen (or the coil burns out after being energized for a short time)...all of a sudden the pumps *will NOT shut off* (because the emergency system has to send power to shut them off) in an emergency. As wired here, if any of the following happens: E stop supply breaker trips, wiring to e stops gets cut or shorted to ground, E stop button gets damaged or vandalized, contactor coil burns out....all pumps WILL shut down, and not being able to reset it will force the e stops to be checked out.
Yeah give them a quote for repairs to make the system correct by code minimums. Then before you leave tell them you can’t work on that disaster unless they approve you to make it safe! Once you’ve left if they deny proper repairs to be made, call code enforcement and report these idiots. Especially, for the condition of this electric service for the pumps and choosing to keep it that way!!!
Code is bare minimum you want someone that goes above and beyond not just someone who knows what the books say
I would strongly suggest not buying pre-terminated fiber.. just learn how to terminate it.. tools can be had for around 2-3k and regularly pay for themselves.
@@EanBezemer good idea. Probably a lot cheaper in the long run
@ yeah industry standard has been Corning Unicam for quite a while if you want go to the fusion route a UCLSwift KF4A can be had for a few k and the connectors can be had at Graybar.. same with Corning, the only downside to terminating it yourself is you have to test it yourself and the testing gear can run a couple of grand..
😮

I may be wrong, but does that emergency switch just short out the inside breaker and causes it to trip?
@@infinitepower6780 that’s essentially what a shunt-trip is. So yea
