Royal Enfield - The Last Masters - Episode 1- "Diewald's Diesels"
In this series we are looking into the lives of Royal Enfield mechanical wizards and legends, before they fade away and disappear into the darkness of modernity, without the recognition they deserve.
Episode 1 is a documentary of one of Germanys great motorcycle mechanics, Mr. Wolfgang Diewald, and his work with the elusive Royal Enfield diesel motors. This is my personal recount on how I first met Mr. Diewald in 2012 in the Black Forest in Germany, and how he is doing today, twelve years on.
Thankfully in 2012, I had taken some photos of his work whilst he was working on an amazing 800cc diesel engine amongst other classic 500 Enfields. And so I went back to show them to him, to elaborate and explain his fascinating creations.
At the time of filming, Mr. Diewald was struggling with his health (2024) and therefore I urge all of you to send him your prayers for a speedy recover, so he can keep doing what he loves for the next 20 years... at least.

      @cf23575 not sure that all wheelchair motorcyclists agree with you... :( :) I use a material from Germany which I put as a washer between footpeg and bike. Reduces vibration nicely: SLAB SL750 OR 450. Forgot which is harder but the harder is the better one. The 1cm thick will compress to like 5mm but still reduce vibrations nicely. Don't use a chain cleaner containing solvents they're not good for the o-rings, try buying a three sided motorcycle chain cleaning brush it's easier and quicker, ever thought about chain wax instead of oil or Teflon chain lubricants, I've used wd40 chain wax for years, doesn't fling off or collect dirt but you do need to leave it to dry properly before you use the bike,, overnight is best

      @Ridernineteenone 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Michael , Lots of people are commenting on this.. however to address your comment there are a couple of things to note. Firstly this is a new bike and new chain and gave issues from the first ride, which indicates the problem right there.. it's a poor quality chain .. so I pretty much have no love for it and was considering replacing it with something of a higher quality.. Secondly I am very well versed with the chemical compositions of the solvents I use on my bikes and know what results I can expect from using them.. As I mentioned in other comments as well, I actually used a much harsher solvent off camera to try to get the chain to loosen up .. it did improve but still a far cry from my liking.. I might just change the chain entirely.. so everything is relative using harsh solvents for a short period of time is ok in my opinion as long as you wipe it off soon and then oil it nicely.. But thanks for your comment and thanks for watching.. the biker community is awesome 😎 and I love every one of you guys from the bottom of my heart..

    Hi, ive also cleaned my chain with wd40 but the dealer advised me not to use that and rather to use just regular motul chain cleaner + moisturizer. Also when i go over 50 i hear a loud thin sound from the front small chain sprocket, not sure whats up with that? Do you hear it on your bike?

    • @Ridernineteenone
      @Ridernineteenone 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Lorenzo, well I would think that there is no real exact scientific approach but WD 40 stands for Water Displacement number 40 .. and I would say it is a mild de-greaser .. as I mentioned in the film I used a much harsher de-greaser as well .. the reason your dealer told you not to use it is probably because there is grease inside the links ..but if you wipe it off before oiling it everything should be fine.. you cannot use WD 40 to lube the chain..that's clear.. but for cleaning it is absolutely fine.. I haven't actually noticed any noise from the front sprocket but I'll keep a ear out for it.. Thanks for your comment 😊😊

    First and foremost, good review, mine is also on order, but regarding your maintenance you are obliged to go to an authorized dealer, regarding your warranty, if you renounce it, you are no longer entitled to the warranty, should something of any kind arise. nature too and if you regularly light up oil warring is not okay 2nd issue you brake the first 100-200 kilometers your motorcycle does not brake as it should, your brake pads still need to be broken in, the same with your tires, but I assume you know all this know, I think you should mention this in your review, there are always people who do not have this experience and end up on the wrong foot. We did go to the authorised dealer for the first service and yes our warranty is perfectly in tact👍 The oil warning seems to have cleared up and hasn't shown up except when starting the bike which is normal.. Regarding the break pads you may have a point however I think since the break disks were not cleaned initially and I rode it 300kms straight out the dealership with hard braking I think it damaged the performance of the pads temporarily .. however later I did rough them up with sand paper and that issue was sorted as well.. I hope you got yours..keep me posted😊

      If you hadn't noticed most people prefer english in their video' as there is a much wider audience, which in turn brings more subscribers. Also better than just being known worldwide in Germany (Germans will understand this). I recognised the 'indian' accent straight away in his english, altho' a bit confused at first, his statement about being Italian born in India clarified this. What boggled me was, if the bike is for his wife why change things on it to suit yourself if she's happy with it. Let her get used to the bike first as it is and then if she is unhappy with this or that let her make that decision. Crashbars I understand, but handlebars and rear mudguard, it's her bike right, then she cleans it, without, this is one thing less to clean. Your wife will love it more having more say concerning HER bike 😉.

      @@Wrong-Way-Round Hi there, you're not wrong about changing things around on "her" bike however, to my defence I don't think she minded the changes at all, and all said and done she will come to appreciate them more as time goes on and the rides get more technical. As her husband and rider-guider I must ensure that no part of the motorcycle comes in the way of her learning experience..an in my experience the angle and height of the handle bar is very important especially when you need to stand up on gravel. As far as the cleaning goes guess who is gonna be in charge of THAT lol .... But thanks for your comment and thanks for watching..Ride safe

      hi there!i had decide to go for the new transalp.but,transalp with the extras i want will go close to 13k.this is at 8.5k with everything.so i m thinking seriously for this bike.i dont have the chance for a test ride,so i went to a dealer and sat on one.,i am 1.80 and i would like my legs to be a little lower.a solution is to make a custon higher seat.and to take off the ruber from the pegs.so,the question is did you have much vibrations to the pegs?at high revs lets say.if the ruber be removed,do you think will be annoying?

      Pozdrav Branko. Reci mi koliko si visok i jel ti odgovara motor što se tiče veličine? Ja sam 195 visok i sviđa mi se izgled, ali nisam siguran kako bi izgledao na njemu.

    Im very shocked at the treatment & poor service you received from your Benelli dealer,as you own a New machine that’s under the manufacturers warranty All service parts should be genuine items & Not aftermarket parts. This would invalidate your warranty if your were unfortunate to make a claim. Its lucky that you are competent and able to carry out all the essential service/safety work yourself as not everyone can. Excellent first ride review as to me this bike is very tempting & great value as a Budget adventure machine. Unfortunately in the UK All stock appears to be sold & the next batch is due March 2024.

      Absolutely correct... Chinese manufacturing has come a long way however they don't spend much on R&D and after sales service.. I've noticed this with some very expensive camera gear I bought recently as well, same story .. great build quality upto 95% and then some really stupid flaw that you have to overcome and modify using aftermarket parts.. However for the price these niggles can be overlooked and overcome, if, you stay patient and have some handyman skills.. Every machine has its drawback it just depends on what we can live with .. I've had some issues with my triumph tiger 2022 as well, and it's still under warranty.. however I will make another video on this one and explain everything.. Personally I can handle a lot because I am an ex-motorcycle mechanic myself but if you think of the average consumer like my wife ... well that's why I'm starting to make these videos..Thanks for your comment much appreciated🤗

      @@Ridernineteenone I agree 100% & we all need to take Chinese products very seriously now as they are getting very close to the popular motorcycle brands now but better value for money. I really think I will be changing my 2017 Honda NC750X for either a New Benelli or CF Moto early next year. I too do home servicing so will try my best to care for it myself as long as I can obtain parts. Keep the Benelli updates coming,it would be great to view some workshop /service videos on the TRK702 as I’m sure other owners would benefit from them.

      @@johndavy8801 Yes that line has certainly blurred into oblivion, the bigger motorcycle companies cannot rest on their laurels anymore.. competition is good for us and the market ...the build quality although copied is definitely up to scratch.. If your budget permits I would highly recommend the CF moto Ibex 800 or mt 800 as called here in Europe.. It's something I have actually fantasised about.... selling my tiger and buying it🤫... it's about 13k here in Germany.. Still can't bring myself to sell the tiger though😮‍💨... but when I saw it in person at the dealership the force was strong.. however if budget is a concern the TRK 702x is definitely my second recommendation ..
