Eurovelo 6 | Bikepacking Across Europe Was... Hard
Great video and perseverance. In my younger days a did a lot of hiking in challenging conditions on the Pennines but Dartmoor is way more unpredictable in my opinion. The weather can change so quickly and the landscape unforgiving. I’ve hiked it in brilliant sunshine turning to absolute deluge and freezing fog and energy sapping winds in the same day. Learning to navigate only by a compass can literally be a life saver if you journey off-path.
7:05 - you dug up the peat? 😮
No, that's not peat :)
Isn't it illegal to go off trail on Dartmoor? Aren't the peat and flora protected?
Cool bro!
The cinematography and editing are outstanding! I'm late to seeing this, but it's really underrated. I'm planning on biking Eurovelo 6 next year, but I'm a solo girl. Did you feel relatevly safe camping? Do you have any tips on reasearch and planning?
Heey, thank you so much :). We did feel relatively safe camping most of the time, but then we we're a couple so it might feel a little different alone. It also was harder to wild camp after France because it's not quite as accepted. Other than knowing the route we didn't do too much planning, we just took each day at a time as its easy to find food and water en-route. Good luck and hope you have fun!
I have tried walking in a straight line across of various parts of Dartmoor. There are so many areas that are boggy that none of my routes worked out. You start out thinking there is a feasible path & then you start walking around one patch of bog only to find you are in the middle of another one. By the time you have backed out of that you are not sure quite which way you were going in the first place. We had just about enough sense to manage not to get completely stuck.
I don’t pretend that I could perform the task, but were proper waterproof boots against the rules?
Everytime you think you have reached the bottom of the straight line iceberg, you find another.
Excellent story telling & editing sir...I am Mrinal friend from India.
Great achievment! I have crossed a few rivers on Dartmoor and some of them incredibly dodgy, they are nothing like they look on the map.
On ten tors training, I once accidentally went to Fur Tor (while trying to go to Great Kneeset... genius, right??) and I can confirm that it is VERY wet the entire way round it. Congratulations though, this is an interesting challenge.
You are so amesign! 😅
Beautiful video 👍
Brilliant filming and editing. Did you have some training?😊
I think this video was quite good
Incredible cinematography man! Great looking video in addition to the fantastic content!
Stumbled across this video trying to find out more about the migration of robins in a random train of thought, and what a high quality video I found! This guy had beautiful footage, good quality voiceover and editing and a proper technical quantum physics explanation of robins 👏🏼 This channel is going places!
Great achievement and video, well done. Thinking of doing similar, but am I correct in thinking you used your phone for GPS ? If so would you recommend that, did it work / hold out ok ?
Yeh the phone worked okay, we had a few battery banks to keep it charged. It's probably not quite as accurate as a dedicated gps but it's obviously a lot cheaper!
Great video, you guys are the true heroes.
What was your favourite bit?

The editing is beautiful!
How is this video’s quality so high yet the views so low! The cinematography, the camera angle framing, the colour grading and the editing are just incredible! Felt like I was watching a big screen movie or documentary the whole time!
Thanks so much, really appreciate that 🙂
Always carry a heavy duty bin liner….weighs nothing, takes up no space and can be used for a hundred and one things, namely putting all your gear in and floating it across rivers etc…….also….have you guys heard of ‘gaiters’??? P.S I enjoyed the video….always satisfying to see others going through the ringer👍🏻
Hi Jono, great channel, I would love to have a chat with you, I'm a student at Dartington arts school, I can not find a message button on your channel, so would you send me a message instead? Best wishes, Isabella :)
Hi Isabella! You can email me on jegilbert211@gmail.com . Thanks!
Good effort. To me this is the real Dartmoor and the reason I love the place so much. Great footage and commentary.
Many thanks!
This cinematography is honestly just incredible. I was watching in awe. Congratulations guys. An incredible achievement!
Thanks! 😊
Love the editing and music. Fantastic adventure.
some amazing shots great camera work
some great cinematics shots and great video especially across the very tough dartmoor
Short but sweet. Enjoyed that, great editing 👌
Very beautiful as always. Just wish it would be slower and longer. Tx.
Will be making a longer version soon!
That was beautiful
That idiot landlord better take care. OC is not to be messed with.
Rise crockern drive the rich Londoner out
No one owns theses lands theses high profile people claim it and says it's there's they like to play God and look down on the public like they do in a court room there idea would strap you to the cities under control . There's Freemasons throughout councils , courts , solicitors , police forces , private landlords , social services , Mental health , teaching , politicians , royal family etc , who would want to trust such a corrupt system full of law breakers money stealers bullies torture etc it's a bloody joke this system. So don't forget to pay your taxes so you can add your killing mark to this war be proud your British and don't forget to vote for the same people that rob torture sabotage pollute harass you continuously because the UK government cares for it's people . More people more casualties more jobs more money your government cares
I really enjoyed this video, have a lovely 2023 debs xx.....
Not cool…. You’re nuts! You have just put this out to all the morons who will attempt to copy. I think the volunteer rescue groups can do without having to go and save people who have become lost or stuck in the middle of nowhere. I’m sure they have enough to do. Not to mention the wildlife. Daft.
Nobody would do anything by that theory. You’re the one that’s nuts
Alright "Billy Big Bollox", here's a message you can pass along to your friends if your so worried about them: DON'T COPY EVERYTHING YOU SEE ON THE INTERNET.
@@jonospursuitofthewild7755 Thank you for your wonderful advice. I don’t have friends and it’s your responsibility because you are producing posh boy rock videos. Take care.
@@cityzens634 Really? Welcome to the real world. Yes I’am very much nuts. Thank you for recognising my qualities.

@ 00:56 - 01:00 Good old Mr Mark Oke in the blue top, what a legend of a barreller! Great video on such a little known phenomena in Devon! Thank you
And the UK gov say we have no native or indigenous culture... This right here is Native England! Rise Old Crockern, Rise!
Fantastic achievement on doing the walk in a straight line. What I found even more fantastic though was the production value of the film. The cinematic shots just blew my mind. I was really impressed that you managed to capture these lovely scenes so well. We know Dartmoor quite well & have walked into some of the most difficult terrain so I know that it's very difficult just to get through it let alone manage to concentrate on getting those gorgeous cinematic shots. Very well done. 👏
Thank you 🙂
A straight line mission with amazing cinematography, yes please! Well done!
I have to say having made the attempt at Scotland with Marcus (the chess teacher) and failed, you did an awesome job. I really loved your vid. The camera work is just amazing very professional (is your camera man a professional?) Loved it.
Thanks a lot! I'm not a professional but I'm a very keen videographer so wanted to bring that out in the video. It was a bit challenging running around trying to get the shots without slowing us down too much, but I think it was worth it in the end👍
Amazing cinematography! Very well done
Cheers Ollie! Was partly inspired by you guys and the mission across New Zealand, so epic.
Good effort and achievement guys. Good film making too. ATB. Al.
This deserves many more views and likes, you got one like from me. I wish I could give more than just 1 like. Keep it up.
Great achievement, congratulations, guys! I hadn't heard of straight lining before - It's a great way to show what a landscape is really like.
Good hiking 👍🥾
This was so brilliantly filmed and edited. Would love to see you do more straight line missions!
I use the rain fly of the backpack to make it flaot. works well for river crossings or even getting unto an island in a lake.
Great stuff man! I really enjoyed the cinematography, all looks cool. My only gripe is "narration vs original dialogue". This was about 95% narration and I was seriously missing the in the moment stuff. Maybe due to having to make sure you're not seen? That was also weird. You film everything, but the guy on the screen hardly said two words? Anyhoo, keep at it! Love to see more!
