Redundant to Self-employed | Artisan Electrics to Faultless Electrical Services
This video is a little (well.....quite long) catch up of my journey from being mad redundant from Artisan Electrics to setting up on my own with Faultless Electrical Services 😎
This is just random clips over the first 6 months of Faultless from my Instagram (hence the vertical filming). I'm hoping those looking to take the leap and go self-employed will watch this and see if I can do it, anyone can!

john, i made it to the end... i am glad you came to the light side, being self employed for me was a no brainer, i HATE being told how to do my job by people. Yes the paperwork (ok laptop work) can be hard... butlike you said in this video, you can make space for your own life, 'not booking stuff in at kid picking up time' for example... and ... BONUS, you can do certs at the pub, they have free wifi ;) (and sadly not free beer)... colleague and i literally say to each other in front of customers 'ok see you at the office' :D

I thought those meter tail weirdnesses were only done to prevent tampering. But you being ex-DNO would know better... never knew they were used to just be lazy. Always makes me laugh to see '1, 2, 3, 4' on meter tails.... it's like 'the big hand is pointing to12...'

John you are a legend mate, and kudos to you for not bearing a grudge. Re getting rid of waste, point1, GET A LOWER TIER WASTE CARRIER LICENSE (wastecarriersregistration.service.gov.uk/) it's free metal scrap, easy to get rid of, cardboard... if not too much and you still have the personal car, local tip... if not find a local paper recycler. other stuff.... befriend other trades... they will let you know what skips are in the area that you can use. I realize youprobably already figured most of this out. but waste carrier's licence is essential (again, it's free) Also don't sweat the tax, its actually pretty simple

John, that's a brilliant video and a great journey you've been on. I'm delighted to see you doing so well. One thing I'd suggest if you're not already doing it - when you talked about tax and mentioned keeping photos of all the receipts on your laptop - I would use Dropbox or Google Drive or something like that to store all your data online as well, so if the laptop goes bye bye (they all do at some stage) you don't lose all your records. Especially because of the 5 year tax thing, but also it makes them accessible from your phone, etc. which can be very useful. Cheers and best of luck for the future!

I'm the other way, I've always been self employed. Once you're set up you'll never go back to employment. You cant put a price on the freedom it gives you. My recommendation. Once work is regularly coming in dont book in anything for Fridays. Use Monday - Thursday for scheduled work. Make sure you're charging enough to cover your time on the Friday. Fridays for me are any of the following: Paperwork, quotations, finishing jobs that may have overrun, callouts or little jobs that come in during the week. Basically anything you don't want to do in the evening. It's all part of the job at the end of the day. Nothing worse than it taking precious family time away from you!

Instant sub - I was wondering how you were doing. This was a real honest video, unlike a certain other channel and all the better for it. It's like an electrican "unplugged" (pun intended) from all the glitzy nonsense. Thoms Nagy is the OG and is finally back, but he's all about highways work now, so I'm only watching him for old time's sake. Nick Bundy churns out the videos but has said he has ADHD and is clearly quite manic in his videos. Both of those channels are still infinitely better than you-know-who's. Please cut the swearing - my family watch TH-cam on our television. I assume you do not swear in front of your own family. Thank you.

I think Lee and the lads just want to get on with the work and we now realise that when it says 'Artisan Electrics' it really means 'Jordan'. There's no team inclusivity there at all so I doubt very much if the rest are allowed to point you John's way. Jordan's playing of the smallest violin in the world back-fired and he thinks that coming back for a few days and shooting a shit-ton of videos to be spread across the month makes it look as if he's here the whole time when we know he's not. You notice in his 'What I'm doing now' video when there's something 'good' or 'positive' he says 'I'. When there's something 'bad' or 'negative' he says 'we'. All the lads looked up to John, he was the most experienced there. Glad you've done your own channel John.
