1- pricing: personally I price most parts at 5% above the price guide. I do this because I don’t thing the BL prices have kept up with inflation AT ALL and could definitely be raised a bit. 2-video games: the only video game I’ve had in my store (lego Batman game for the Nintendo Ds) sold for like $1 without the case in a couple months.

I'd recommend a salad spinner, there's a nice one at Walmart by Farberware for $20. Gets 90% of the water off the bricks. I usually spin for 20 seconds, move the parts around, then spin for another 20 seconds. Then lay out on a towel. Dries so much faster!

I was just trying to figure out how to consolidate faster and it is hard for me to pin down. I used to work with other stores and used the remark field for the commission rate. The lack of fields for an item make it difficult to add info. I wish these sites had an actual inventory management system. It would let your store function better.

Could you or your husband do a video on how to tell what a legit mini figure part is? I have been staring away from a lot of mini figures because I am afraid to send a counterfeit part. I understand how to tell a torso, but I am confused on helmets hair and such because I can’t find numbers very easily due to my vision.

Thank you so much for your video! I am going to be putting a lot of used parts into my store this summer so this should help. I really need to start using Brickstore but for some reason I get nervous that I am going to lose all my inventory. Eeek! I agree with you on consolidating. I have gone to some stores and saw over 20 purple 2x2 bricks all in a different lot and each one has a different price. Once I see that I go to a different store. It's too confusing. Continue doing great work! 🙂

Hello great video. The way I add remarks and find where the part is located if its already in my store is the following. Import your store into brickstore. ( it adds all your parts into anew tab so don't worry) Then when you have added all your parts into a new file, select all, go to edit, then copy value from document. Items from an already open document, and select your store copy, next have everything set to ignore apart from remark set to copy. Hit finish and your new file will be populated with all the current part locations.

I agree totally about the sticker parts. I always list them and leave stickers on unless they're damaged, because many of them are hard to find. So far I've sold quite a few and been lucky enough to get additional pieces sold to folks looking for a sticker piece. Really enjoy your videos, I've learned a ton from you! :)

I always complain when I get an item from Amazon like that. They will usually refund you if you supply pictures. I got a board book for my grandbaby and they sent itn in a paper mailer and the driver didn't bother to ring the bell do it sat in the rain all day and the book was totally ruined. When I went through the return process it wanted me to return the book so I spoke with an agent and said I shouldn't have to return a book that they can't resell anyway when it wasn't my fault, and he kindly just sent a replacement. I totally get your burnout - this is a lot of work, especially on top of another job. Take a break whenever you need one! The business will always be there when you come back.

Its interesting you don't point out where something is bought from, because technically if you're running a business (especially one in California in my case), you need to show if you paid taxes on it or not, because if you charge your buyers to also cover taxes, that's double taxing a product which is a big no no. furthermore, if you don't point out that you paid tax on your lots for any scenario and you're paying taxes again for running your business, you're losing more money and again a big no no. When I get my Single Member LLC going here, I'm looking into the seller's permit stuff so that my purchases are tax exempted and thus avoids the double taxing. Also I know you mention you don't 'pay' yourself, but you could just do an "Owner's Draw" to pay yourself so it's not confused in with your business expenses, you don't want to show personal on business accounts. I have to go back and relearn everything I was taught 10+ years ago in Michigan to understand the Tax laws out here in CA, but basically the IRS isn't something you want to make any mistakes on and considering they aren't forgiving to those who just didn't know better, I go out of my way to make sure I understand how it's done. (since the new license requirements out here in CA, I've noticed a lot of bricklink shops based in CA around that time basically just closed up shop and gave up, from the looks of it, it's killing small businesses, or people don't know how to work with the new laws around it, and don't want to risk losing everything, so I'm hesitant in starting later this year... I'm still doing a bunch of research but it feels like it's just more hassle to be an inconvenience for people trying to make a living, to say it infuriates me is an understatement. you basically need at least $5k to start any selling business here in CA and even then, I wouldn't feel comfortable unless I knew I had another $5k backed up in case of something major is missed, the insurance alone is $800/year or constantly reapplying for the business license...)

Awesome video, love your dedication . I'm a number person and did a little math here. With the number you posted it took you 38 weeks to process that eBay lot. That mean in the end you made roughly about $21 a week in profit. That's definitely not alot but if it's something you enjoy and is fun the $$$$ isn't an issue. Sorry for the long post. I just see a lot of people thinking oh yeah I can make $$$ from selling Lego and yes you can but it's not a easy road to riches. Anyway enough of my 2 cents. Have a wonderful day.😊

And that is why I never track how many hours it takes me to sort an eBay win! LOL I have feeling if I figured that out, then I wouldn't want to do this anymore. I know some people have figured out how to run their store for their mainstream income, but they have magic formula of new parts / minifigures needed to that. Much harder with used parts, because you never know what you are going to get. This business is my way to relax and have something to focus on when work (and life) gets difficult. :-)

Fun fact about trying to start a Bricklink store in California... so a few years ago (apparently, I'm from Michigan so I don't know all the regulations and laws yet out here), it was implemented that if you want to do ANY selling, (especially reselling), you are required by law to have a seller's permit, which in California, also requires you to have a business license to apply for most permits (if it's just a garage sale situation, than you just apply for a temp permit at your local city hall or something), which therefore requires needing to pay an attorney to make sure you're apply for your license properly, you ahve all the documents you require to start a business, what type of business, pay insurance for your business, then apply for the seller's permit, might need said attorney for that help, might need to higher an accountant/CPA to make sure you're doing your tax info properly, (I have education in Michigan for Business and Accounting, but it is over 10 years old, and needs to be updated especially for being in a different state, because laws change yearly and different states have different regulations, then there's double checking federal laws on owning a business too), and from what I've seen, since CA has changed all these things... it looks like a lot of CA based Brinklink stores just up and disappeared around that time period... probably because it became too costly to keep going... I'm in the process of trying to start my own store by the end of the year, and doing a TON of research in the process, but it's been driving me insane when Google refuses to give accurate updated info on any search results I'm looking into, including purposely ommiting quoted phrases because apparently 2016, Google removed the function of quoting for searching exact phrasings, yeah, figure that out... who ever decided that and the new flawed search functions at Google needs to be fired...

ooof, I feel for that NHC software, it has issues after a while, I would suggest looking into OBS Studio (it's free!), and you have window capture, screen capture, game capture, you can divide out the audio from computer, your mic, or other things into separate options so if you happen to pick up background noise or something you can edit it in a different program more easily. I've still yet to find a good EDITING program though... I'm hanging on to the old version 8 of NHC editing program, refusing to update, I mean my perception is "if it ain't broken, I'm not going to fix it." so as long as it works, I'm not messing with what I know.

Nice to see one haul end-to-end. I don't really keep the hauls separated to see what profit I've actually made. I just don't have the space for it. Also, I sometimes put them together to get a bit more pieces of the same category before I catalog them. How do you price your parts? Current average?
